So there's no qualified prosecuting attorneys in the entire state of Idaho? None in the Idaho AG office which I thought based on previous communications had been assisting Wood? Wood might write a good letter but I always hoped his lack of court room presence was offset by being a superior manager and CEO type prosecutor. While many are jubilant about bringing in an outside specialist I'm viewing this as Wood is incapable of handling the case. I hope I'm dead wrong and everyone can say "I told you so" but I've never felt very good about Wood. He just doesn't seem to have "it". Whatever that might be. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

I view it as Woods calling in backup, not that he’s incapable. I have faith that he knows what he’s doing based on other cases he’s handled.

All jmo moo imo

In addition, this is a complex case (and that is based off only what the public knows)...Finding someone with the amount of experience with complex cases certainly can't be easy to find. I'm actually familiar with her

Now this may be off the table, considering these newest articles, but my thoughts are that if CD rolled on LV for the kids, she would just roll on him for TD. So, it seems unlikely he would ever be the one to turn on her.
MOO
Wow, honeymoon is over.

it's so close yet I won't believe it until it's filed, please don't make us wait in limbo for too long

I keep hearing people say that when they file murder charges, the current charges would be dropped. Can someone explain as I know someone personally who murdered someone and still had plenty of additional charges added to the murder charge such as tampering with evidence, etc...Why wouldn't they just add the murder charge as they're 2 separate crimes

We've all been impatient waiting for the serious charges and the most popular opinons seemed to be that LE was still building a case or there were concerns that perhaps they didn't have the evidence to drop serious charges. With the recent events and court wranglings, could it be that Wood was simply biding his time this whole time while waiting for someone like Rachel Smith, or her in particular, to become available for assistance?

There are several things that make sense. Rexburg and Madison County, being a relatively small population area, probably doesn't have the resources to handle the high-profile case that this has become. The FBI, being involved for such a long time, has vast resources and now a highly experienced attorney will be added to the prosection team. Had this case not become big news, perhaps all this would not have been needed but as it evolved, RW and the local LE have certainly been doing things right. They deserve a ton of credit.

It now makes sense why MM had such a glum look on his face at the last motion hearing. JP had his smirk going but he seems to have a huge ego so I read nothing into that. If the death penalty will be on the table, JP and MM would have to get a DP defense attorney involved. I'm sure JP is familiar with how that works but how in the world will family law attorney MM deal with it?

The writing is on the wall and the wheels are finally turning. It looks like serious charges will come fairly soon so LV, load up on the Jolly Ranchers. CD, it looks like you'll be needing a super-portal if you can find one.

in my honest opinion [and I sincerely hope you and I are very wrong], I’m glad Wood is asking for more help, at least to some extent he seems to be acknowledging the limits on his own experience (he hasn’t been an attorney for all that long IMHO). I wasn’t impressed at the preliminary hearings, I didn’t get the sense he was going to be a prosecutor who commands the attention of the jury & is able to bring them the facts, keeping aside the feelings, but still showing a strong passion/dedication for seeking justice. Many just said it’s because it was only preliminary stuff, that there was no jury, so of course he will be “better” in front of a jury. I wasn’t so sure of that but I remained hopeful. I agree with you wholeheartedly. When he missed the deadline to respond to an Objection, and when Judge Boyce the essentially called the State out in one of the recent hearings for their failure to reply in a timely manner & failure to reply at all made them look bad.

Little details like that can get overlooked, and if/when they do they can sometimes give the Defense a window of opportunity to do something that would help them. I don’t think a really good prosecutor and their office would be overlooking/missing some small details before the case even gets to the jury trial. My ongoing concern was Wood’s lack of experience, and I always found it pretty ironic when he told Lori’s sister that her attorney couldn’t handle a death penalty case as if it he’s handles complex cases that involved the DP himself. (And you don’t even have to research the court records to see if Wood himself has handled many cases with it, or even many murder cases at all, when you see in his own words in this filing to the Court that the community is low crime....

One thing that caught my attention in the letter was that Rob Wood didn't mention JJ and Tylee specifically by name, but rather said that his goal was to "ensure justice for the victims and the people of Madison County." I am actually hopeful that he worded this intentionally so as to include Tammy in the equation.

MOO.

Local update: MM was at the women’s detention center everyday this week. But what’s noteworthy is Wednesday JP was also there with him. Also, still have quiet a bit of ribbons left up from last year when they were hung up in town.

Moved to just a weekly update because a couple people felt my updates were a lot. No hard feelings from me, just hope to keep everyone in the loop of what’s happening in town. If there’s a request for daily updates I’ll switch back. o_O

All jmo moo imo

I like daily too, if it's no trouble.

Unless I missed something with who responded and what. I think it was more of a joke by implying that MM is there everyday and it would be simpler to let us know when he's not. Again, I'm not sure who said/didn't say something as I know I wasn't one but I think it was maybe taken out of context.

Agreed. She has to be part of the equation. If nothing was found in her autopsy, I'd think that info would have been released by now. There were way too many smoking guns leading up to the sudden demise of a young, healthy woman training for a 5k.

SleuthD, I like the daily updates, if possible. I appreciate that you can do this for WS. Thank you :)

I tend to agree
LE announced that JR death is natural causes. (I tend to disagree but after all this time, I dont think they can call it as anything else)**
Alx Cox Death--- Natural causes. ( I tend to disagree, but that is what is on legal docs so cant dispute it, but I think there is something more, JMO)
I wish LE would revisit CV COD, but since Alx Cox is now deceased, I dont think they will. (JMO, Gilbert LE screwed up big time)
LE has not released TD's COD so I tend to think pending charges are coming.
And obviously, for JJ and Tylee as we know they did not die from natural causes.
JMO

I made such a wisecrack awhile ago, but it was only intended to poke fun at MM's daily visiting habit. I'm sorry if it sounded as though I didn't appreciate the daily updates or the willingness of @SleuthD-o-doubleg to observe – because I do!
