This is my first comment on this forum as I haven’t felt I could contribute anything of value until now, although I have followed along on here since day one.

I am an Ex Mormon, but received my patriarchal blessing when I was 17. I met the patriarch of our Stake the day of my blessing and saw him once again when he delivered a hard copy to me (in which he had changed something pretty significant from his verbal blessing) and then never saw him again.
It’s a blessing delivered by the Patriarch much like a prayer as he lays his hands on your head. It’s a very reverent process and the things said in the blessing are considered sacred to members, often only sharing the details with ones parents and spouses. As someone else mentioned, it is intended to be a guide to ones life, often giving specific examples of how you’ll be blessed based off of your worthiness and devotion to the restored gospel and its teachings. Although they often read like a prophecy, it is given with the understanding that you have free agency and your actions in life will have an affect on these promises. Some are pretty vague and general, while others (like my own) deliver pretty hefty promises of a future roll one might play within their life or within the church. Since I’m no longer a member, I feel now like it’s more of a tool used to further indoctrinate it’s members. Mine put a great deal of pressure on me to continue to act faithful way past my first inclination that this religion was not for me.
It is possible that Chad or Lori have patriarchal blessings that they’ve interpreted in a way that they feel justifies their behavior, but that’s the thing, they’re most always just vague enough that one can often gather many interpretations of their own blessing. It’s very unlikely that a patriarch or their patriarchal blessing would be of any help in this investigation. MOO
Thank you for joining and for sharing your experience! Very enlightening!

It was very interesting. The idea that what is going on is against our “basic instincts “ when it comes to children.

Yes.
To elaborate, the "LDS church" is not one person, it is a worldwide network with various levels of involvement in members' lives. It certainly has the capacity to monitor members on a ward or stake level, and it absolutely has the responsibility to prevent or report child endangerment.
As far as your link, I dont really care if they could get in legal trouble for reporting. I am so sick of this excuse. Here's a case that happened in my community:
Mormon Officials In Bisbee Being Investigated For Not Reporting Child Sex Abuse
People who hide behind "the law" of clergy privilege are despicable cowards. Moo.

We are in total agreement with respect to reporting serious crimes.

Monitoring, not so much.

Fair enough. But in this case, it's way past the monitoring stage. This is an international news story. They know. They could intervene. They are choosing not to. Moo.

IMO, all decisions are made based on the same criteria as any corporation. What might negatively impact or increase revenue and costs. MOOOOO

You may be right. But I have a hard time believing this. After years in computer science. I have come to know better.

Sure, conceding the many assumptions you make, they are making a choice.

Let's move on from a mere 16 million members to 1.2 billion for the Supreme Pontiff, the Bishop of Rome, Pope Francis. How well, in our thought experiment, does this responsibility you prescribe scale?

Not sure what you're responding to here. If my comment about not knowing what vehicle they might be in, how would they know? If they knew that they'd have a good guess as to who has them and probably already be on the doorstep. MOO.

I'm going to bet that if this was truly comparable, as in this was happening in Vatican City or even somewhere in the greater Rome metro or nearby sections of Italy, involved people who were semi-famous within the Catholic community, that the Vatican spokesperson Erico Hawkino would have more to say than "no comment, not our fault, has absolutely nothing to do with us."

I wouldn't expect the Church President to make the statement. I would expect action on the Stake or Regional level, at a minimum. Moo.

Ok I have tons of notes on this JR (author) video... I'm a little unclear as to what I can and cannot post about what she says. Please update me on that and then I'll post what I can from that.

  • #453
Well it seems as though JR has been reading here! LOL

She says it’s her husband but whatever

Anyway, I think these discussions alone are putting the heat on some people. Good job sleuthers. We need those kids found ASAP!

Yes. The church president is much too holy..ie political. To involve himself in two missing kids. Of his church?

Great! I’m not sure what’s allowed to post from that, but did you catch the websleuths comment?

Also, do you think she’s trying to distance herself from chad somewhat now?

The Swiss guard would be all over it!! Lol. Joking but serious. They are pretty awesome.

I think she's trying to separate herself yes... I also think she likes to turn everything into "the about me" show.
Yeah I heard that comment.. LOL. She can't STAND when people don't want to look to her instead of things like PD and media.

You nailed it! I can’t believe ANYONE follows her! Lol
But hey, according to her, kids are fine, and Tammy is doing fantastic and happy in her realm! :rolleyes:o_O MOO

From an "outsider" position I get what you are saying. Keep in mind that "Stake or Regional" leaders are regular Joe's and Jane's, they are not allowed, authorized, or permitted to speak on behalf of the LDS church.

Comparisons to more familiar faiths break down and fall apart on this point.

You can't post anything from her that isn't mentioned/ quoted in MSM. Her podcast is not MSM (though she probably thinks it is), and she is not relevant enough for anything she said in this one to be quoted (sorry not sorry, JR). Moo.
