I'm not sure about that - defense lawyers can and do raise the SODDI defense without their client taking the stand, as we've recently seen in Charles Merritt's trial and Mark Sievers' trial to name just two.
Both unsuccessfully. IIRC neither took the stand, the defense cases were minimal, and they could only hint at SODDI during cross of prosecution witnesses. (Well, Sievers was a bit more because Wayne testified.).

In this case, if her defense eventually is to say Alex hid them or took them without her knowing, those assertions would need some sort of direct evidence. It would be very difficult/impossible to get to "she didn't know" otherwise.

So, I guess I'm saying there's no way such a defense could be explicitly built out and succeed without Lori testifying.

IMO IANAL etc

Lopez does appear to be the son of ZP (and I believe from recall he actually shows up as owner((which I don't get)), MG lives in same neighborhood.
It’s not the same person. Search further and you’ll see

i know, i know....this one keeps troubling me as well. Lawyer said no passports, most wise folks here on forum say you DO need passport to enter by plane.. So if someone can add anything more definitive here it would be very helpful.

Oops. Made a new post instead of reply.

Mexico International Travel Information

U.S. citizens should be aware that a valid passport book is required to enter Mexico by air, and those attempting to enter at an airport with a U.S. passport card only may be denied admission.

Maybe she didn't have one yet. They could've been applying for one or waiting to receive it.

First … Subscribing to this Thread. I have a lot to catch up on and have been reading here as much as possible.

Second, all I can say is WOW for now … so much new info has come out these past few days and I have some questions and my two cents comments, but have no time to post them now.

And a big THANK YOU to all of you for the updates, timelines, info, etc.

This case is HUGE … and getting bigger by the minute!

It worked for Casey Anthony, didn't it?

Does that count if they were to make an asylum claim as soon as they disembarked?

Is there ANYTHING that wouldn’t dissolve in one of those things in a year. It would be wonderful if Tylee had a distinctive piece of jewelry or medical implant or something that might still be there. Or maybe nearby.

I just think there’s a chance she perished or was disposed of in an acid bath. But my hunch is she died in Yellowstone that day. And completely convinced that she died 9/8 or shortly thereafter. And death was not natural or accidental. She was murdered. And not in a fit of rage. This was pre-meditated, deliberate and cold-blooded.

Unfortunately the punishment I think LV deserves isn’t legal. In any state.

ETA: Though there’s that one loophole strip of the park where legal scholars contend you can’t be legally punished for anything done there........Wonder if it has bears and mountain lions. Lots of them. Angry, starving ones. All mamas, with cubs nearby.

We've talked about that strip of park and why even if the theories are true (doubtful) it wouldn't work if the crime was conceived before arrival. However, in regards to bears and mountain lions, those are definitely around. There is a video on Facebook from someone's security camera near Jackson, Wyoming that has been going around the last few days showing 6 mountain lions walking through their front yard.

I think that case is an aberration, and the verdict had a lot to do with the extremely harsh sequestration of the jurors.

IMO The significance is that yes there was a neighbor with a doorbell cam which has been previously discussed here and that not only can LE see everyone who came and went from LVs unit but also dates like the last time JJ and Tylee were seen on the cam. Seems pretty important. MOO

Not everyone. Possibly everyone who came and went through that door.

No, grandparents have said they had no contact in September.
Yes, is there possibly more to that story though? Maybe LE have asked the grandparents to not divulge certain info that can be used in court. I have zero thoughts that there is other than why get rid of JJ’s caretaker -Tylee and having to hire sitters for him. Why not have them disappear at the same time?

So it seems spouses are disposed of for money to fund the cause, potentially children to save them from apocalyptic distress - where does Colby fit in. Why has he been exempt? These people are not concerned about drawing attention to themselves. The shooting of Charles and attempts on both Brandon and Tammy attest to that. Even Alex’s death and unfortunate descriptors of how he died, brought attention.

LE better be providing protection for Colby.

Lest we overlook anything, I thought I'd point out that Life insurance can be taken out on minor children as well. Again, Lori may not have expected Kay and Larry to blow everything up the way they did. I'm sure that LE has followed their bank accounts and searched for premium payments; but insurance on minors is cheap and no health exam required. It wouldn't be unheard of for someone to set up a policy through a private agent and pay a year's premium in cash. I think the problem is that an insurance agent or company may have confidentiality requirements (not quite sure of this in all aspects) so may not be able to come forward even if they are aware of this case. But I hope LE has looked to local insurance agents that any of these parties may have dealt with. Then they could subpoena records if They had enough probable cause. At the least, they should check with each of these player's auto and home insurers agents/companies or ones local to where these players lived, to see if there are any life insurance policies on those kids. Not sure it has to be Lori. My grandmother took one out on me and she didn't have custody. She was the owner of the policy and she switched ownership to me when I became an adult. Granted, that was moons ago.

But for life insurance to be paid, evidence has to be provided that the person is actually dead. So even if there were life insurance on children, how would it ever be collected?

I don't think there is 144,000, or that they knew they were 144,000 before Lori approached them. Sounds like Lori was contacting people telling them they are selected to survive the end of the world. But I doubt she contacted that many.

IDK if the 144K has been discussed. It's not something LV made up. (just for those that do not know or are interested) 144,000 - Wikipedia

Add: If I understand, the Mormons believe they are descended from one of the Tribes of Israel, which would mean (imo) that there would only be 12,000 for them if that makes sense.

I have noticed several posts about Hawaii not extraditing Chad if he is charged with murder for Tammy.

Based on my reading, I *think* that is not the case. I believe the only way it comes into play is in preventing bail.

From Hawaii codes:

§832-16 Bail; in what cases; conditions of bond. Unless the offense with which the prisoner is charged is shown to be an offense punishable by death or life imprisonment under the laws of the state in which it was committed, a judge in this State may admit the person arrested to bail by bond, with sufficient sureties, and in such sum as the judge deems proper, conditioned for the person's appearance before the judge at a time specified in the bond, and for the person's surrender, to be arrested upon the warrant of the governor of this State.

2013 Hawaii Revised Statutes :: TITLE 38. PROCEDURAL AND SUPPLEMENTARY PROVISIONS :: 832. Uniform Criminal Extradition Act :: 832-16 Bail; in what cases; conditions of bond.

But IANAL so please do correct if I am mistaken.
IANAL but you are correct. People are conflating extradition between countries with extradition between states. States have to honor the laws of other states. The only way to fight extradition between states is if the paperwork is incorrect or to assert you aren't the right person.

The mention of life in prison and/or death penalty is only relevant with regards to bond, as felonies with those penalties are not eligible for bond. Lori's attorney brought it up simply to state that with the current charges she is eligible for bond. Nothing to do with the extradition itself.

Someone said earlier on the thread that the neighbor's camera would only be activated if the motion was close enough, so not necessarily all Lori's comings and goings would have been recorded.
