That could be it. Maybe she had the license from when she and Charles lived there, under Vallow. Then at some point after Charles' death she filed for a new card due to a name change. It looks like that could be done quickly if HI accepts the death of a spouse in the "divorce" category. Otherwise she would need to fill out a bunch of requests and forms and wait for some time. Any locals know if death counts as divorce? She could also quickly get a new ID after she got married, but then it would have to say her new name (Daybell) and not her old one.

Looks like an ID with Vallow name would have to be used in order to actually marry Chad... Or no? Could she marry using the Ryan ID? Heck, maybe they aren't legally married?? I'm possibly just confusing myself with all the names and IDs??

How can you delete a post?
You can't. What you do is go back to the post and Edit the post. Delete everything and then put something else there. By convention, we put in DBM (meaning deleted by me).

He was making 30K a month from selling books and that private forum? Was there another source of income we don't know about? Jmo

I edited my post since I meant to say "guarantee he didn't" and missed the n't. I'm amazed how often I do that. :(

But I suspect you knew I was saying what I meant. I remember discussion that Chad at one point had an actual office job in Idaho Falls, but had quit it because the money from the writing and publishing had become enough. Maybe at one time he was, but not now. Chad and those who wrote for his publishing company are not bringing in anything close to this, IMO.

I say my opinion because I may be missing something and I have to go based on the information I can get at, but here's a few facts to make my case. Okay, maybe a long screed to make my case. :)

The book that has been said has been doing very well for Chad, "One Foot in the Grave," about his experience as a cemetery sexton, is currently ranked at about 108,000 in the Kindle store on Amazon. He has 10 books available in the Kindle format. None that I looked at are ranked better than that with all that I checked being somewhere between this one and a rank of 500,000-ish. Kindle books priced at $2.99 with a ranking in the 100,000 - 500,000 range make a profit, if self-published (so not splitting profits between the author and publisher since the author is doing both of these functions, which kind of applies to Chad's books here) is going to be $30-50 a month. Chad's Kindle books actually are priced from a low of $3.49 and 3.99 for "One Foot in the Grave" and "An Errand for Emma" which are currently his highest selling and most recently released books to $7.99 and $9.99 for his others, so they'll make more. But best case would be going 3x the high of that range for all the books, a definite overestimation which gives us a total income from Kindle books on Amazon of $150 x 10 or $1,500 a month.

The vast majority of Chad's books and those published by his publishing company aren't going to be available at the local bookstore (either Barnes & Noble or something locally owned) but no doubt can be ordered by them if you request. Or you can order them on Amazon. I'm not sure what the sales ranks of paper books on Amazon means in terms of volume, but can say that at least on Amazon, Chad's books appear to be doing worse there than in the Kindle format. The finances are also vastly different because of the cost of printing the books, getting them to the physicial bookstore, storage in between those to things, plus returns (stores can in most instances return unsold books to publishers for full credit if they don't sell). With two exceptions that I'll get into in the next paragraph, I would be amazed if Chad could be making as much on his paper books as he is on the Kindle books. But just to err on the side of giving him more credit than he probably deserves I'll take my significantly inflated $1,500 a month income from Kindle books and assume he gets the same for paper books sold via Amazon and other outlets that are outside of the big exception in my next paragraph.

The two exceptions are the Deseret Book chain and the Seagull Book chain, two chains with locations largely in Utah and southern Idaho, maybe a few slightly outside of that, plus an online presence. At least one of them, Deseret Book has ebook purchase options as well as paper from their website. These two stores are aimed at the Mormon market and the possibility exists that Chad and the publishing company sold a ton of books through these chains. I seriously doubt it was $30,000 a month worth between his and whatever portion he got for the books published for other authors under the Spring Creek Publishing banner. The Mormon market is a niche, and a decent sized niche, but I don't get the impression that Chad or any of his authors except maybe JR, when she was with him, were best sellers by any stretch. It doesn't appear (based on looking at her books on Amazon) that JR has any books currently available through Chad's publishing company. (A few I looked at published by other publishers were in the top 10,000 sales ranks at Amazon which while not oodles of money are still the next level from Chad's.) HOWEVER, the big issue here is that apparently Seagull and Deseret have dropped all of Chad's publishing company's books, at least from their websites. I remember reading early on that they had dropped JR's books when she got in trouble, but I just checked both sites for any book by Chad, JR, or HS (another of Chad's bigger name authors) and found nothing. I seriously doubt he was making 10x the money from these small niche chains than from Amazon, but if he was that money has been shut off now.

Obviously lots of MOO here, but at least a few facts and measurements that you can use to come to your own conclusions. I know a lot of authors, some of them who have had books make various high profile "best seller lists" such as the NYT and USA Today lists. Many people assume authors are rich. Some are, but those who are (Stephen King, Grisham, Patterson, etc) are the exceptions, literally the top 1-2% of authors and have made the mainstream bestseller lists consistently for many years and many books. Making decent money the way Chad is approaching it by being his own publisher means it takes selling less books, but not as many less as he's selling.

That's what I'm getting at. "Under the radar". If she has multiple ID's who only knows what she's done over the years under an alias. Jmo

Yes, exactly. At this point she could even renew her license (if they haven't seen the news) under Lori Ryan with her new address. Documents are not required in HI for license renewal if you are claiming no changes but if she wanted to, she could walk into the Kauai DMV tomorrow with a utility bill, a local bank statement and her marriage certificate and walk out with a new license under the name Lori Daybell with her condo rental address on it.

Things like this are exactly the reason for the REAL ID Act. MOO

Oh good! I'm so glad she finally got through!
I mean the lady who had the encounter just to clarify:) I pray her info

Would she have had the license from when they lived in Hawaii in 2014? The Daily Mail article said the police were happy to see there was an address that they didn't know about but now I'm wondering if that was the address where she previously lived with Charles. That house is directly across the street from the condo they were renting. They weren't served until the resort manager told them there was a new reservation under Lori's name for Sunday and then stopped them just outside the resort.

One of the Hawaii experts here on WS, and apoligies that I forgot who that was, said you get big discounts when you flash your local ID so I assume she's using it for that and maybe used it in January/February 2019 as well.
It's called Kama Aina, locals discount I wouldn't say big, it's like 10 or 20 percent- it's something!

It was under Lori Ryan is what got me. I'll be back in a sec and edit I need to look at something.

ETA her and Charles got married in 2006. Her name should have been changed to Vallow on her DL. That's why I'm wondering if she's been maintaining more than one DL somehow.

I think she purposely kept the Ryan last name on one of her IDs, to make it easier to get Joseph’s/Tylee’s money.

I should add that we don't know how much he might have been making from the AVOW forum, but it wasn't a ton. I know we've seen some numbers from that as far as active (currently paying) members and how much they paid, but I don't remember for sure what those are. I *think* it may have been as many as 1,300 members (don't remember if that is total or active) and want to say that it was about $5 a month or slightly less to join the main forum with an additional charge (assume the same amount) for Chad's forum which would be a subset of those in the main forum. And we don't know how the money got split. We've assume, I think rightly, that Chad got some portion of that fee. But absolute best case all 1,300 people in the main AVOW forum subscribed to Chad's forum and he got 100% of the additional fee. (Both of these assumptions are obviously extremely unlikely) That would add up to $5-6,000 a month. Significant and even enough to reach the median income in the US, but far short of 30K a month. In reality I suspect he was seeing a few hundred dollars a month, at best, from this. If it was more than $1,000 a month I'd be amazed. He probably saw it as a way to hype his books sales and enjoyed the attention. (Not as good as a hot blonde, but a start.)

MOO

Edit: Also want to point out that his forum has reportedly been shut down or not being charged for because people were complaining that Chad was no longer participating. So unless things have changed whatever he was getting he might not be any longer although what he thought when he was looking for a house to rent is another story.

It's called Kama Aina, locals discount I wouldn't say big, it's like 10 or 20 percent- its something, helps bc prices are so high. One thing about license or I.D here is its REALLY a pain to get one especially if you rent a place and cant have any utilities in your name because it's all in the owners name. They wouldn't even take a check from your bank with your name on it - it has to be a statement. You have to show everything including 2 proofs of physical address, bank account info and records of marriage name changes if applicable -

I wasn't speaking in terms of rental agreements, myself. I am just curious as to documentation required to obtain a marriage license? Charles Vallows death certificate? If Lori was using the ID of "Vallow" to apply. Or just divorce records if using the name Ryan?

ETA... Maybe unimportant if they aren't legally married... No proof of it to this point anyway

I think he just lied on the rental application. They walked up to this lady’s door and just asked to rent her house? And yet he already had an electronic application ready even though the place wasn’t for rent. They thought they could charm this woman into renting to them, and maybe when that didn’t work out they tried a different vision to go with a property management company. I wonder what they put on that application (for the place they eventually rented) and when exactly that was. Chad was a homeowner in ID, probably had good credit, etc. and a bunch of cash for a deposit. Or maybe he was really delusional about how much those life insurance payments would be - that was his “projected” income, or Lori’s insurance + Chad’s combined? How are they paying for the rental?

Not sure whether this is valid to link or not. If someone knows it isn't let me know and I'll delete, or report it to a moderator.

There is a website that for a price will give you information about a person, but gives some info without paying called Mylife. I think you have to take it with a grain of salt (I haven't been married for more than 20 years, but it thinks I am married for example) but generally has seemed reasonably accurate when I've looked at it to see what it said about me or others. The page for Chad says "Chad has a reported annual income of $175 - 199,999." I find that hard to believe unless it includes his salary at the job he previously had in Idaho Falls, but maybe prior to Desert Book and Seagull Book shutting him down it was close to reality.

She likely just renewed her HI license (in the same name she had when she first got one) when she was living there, or when she visited in early 2019 for a month.
I don’t know what it is like in Hawaii, but in Florida you are allowed one online DL renewal. It will only ask for certain information like last five digits of your social, DL number, name, etc. the usual. Then you get it renewed and mailed to you.

I know my son was able to find out how much a USA YouTuber made last year by a online search. Is it possible to do that for members of the public? I just tried and couldn’t find anything. Does anyone know if that’s possible?

See the post I just made. If it survives. :)

Then add a grain or more of salt.

I looked myself up on my life, the employee and income listed for me are absolutely wrong. It also listed a bunch of people I don't know as my supposed relatives or associates. So I sure wouldn't trust what it says about Chad.

I'm still thinking about the resort manager saying Lori Ryan used a Hawaii driver's license to check in. I've been reading on driver's license requirements in Hawaii. From what I read, and it's all JMO, unless something has changed, she was falsifying information to have that license. Surely, she didn't check in with an expired license? Hawaii licenses are good for 8 years, expiring at a birthday. So roughly 2011 she had to renew that thing. Providing some sort required documentation. What was going on that far back for her to need (for all practical purposes) a fake ID? All JMO.

Great point!!!!!

It's confounding. She's using ID from her 3rd marriage but on husband #5. And several address changes. Jmo
It has gotten to be such a PITA to get/renew a drivers license with all the new REALID requirements of documentation. I would not read too much into the name she went by.

The real ID is new. Her last name really hasn't been Ryan for 13 years at the least. That causes a host of issues.

She needs a valid ID. Her last name changed to Vallow in 2006. It isn't legal to have a driver's license that isn't your correct name or address. So yes, legally, plenty of people would care. Also, if she had another license under Vallow, she's blatantly breaking the law.

My driver's license has my previous address. It is perfectly legal. I changed my address with the state (Arizona) but they do not issue a new license. I also have state ID from Hawaii (discounts) with my Hawaii address. The house I live in has had the address changed by the county SIX times in the last 10 years so I can guarantee you that most of my neighbors have licenses with incorrect addresses.

At least in my case it doesn't show an income. What it does show includes a bunch of people I'm associated with and past addresses which are all correct, and partial phone numbers and email addresses which are about half right and half wrong. I suspect they have issues in determining what data goes with which person when there are lots with the same name and often get this wrong or end up combining two people into one set of records.

How could he know it had been a couple hours if he'd been asleep?
My exact thoughts!! How does he know how many hours she has been dead unless he was there as she struggled to breathe .. then he just rolled over and let her die.
