DAY 38: This is Keith. You’ve probably seen him on Dateline NBC. We spent most of the day together as he’s working on a 2-hour special about the Daybell case (airs next week). I first met Keith a few years ago when he was in town on another story. I emailed him and asked if he could stop by for a quick interview - thinking a network correspondent would never write me back and if he did, he’d be too busy for me. But 3 hours later, he showed up - by himself, without a team of people. He answered my questions and gave me his personal cell phone number. Today was just like we were old friends. He gave me career advice, bought me lunch and repeatedly thanked ME for helping him out. Keith made my life better today.

By late August, Mestas says he received a phone call from Lori.

"I'm picking up the dog, trying to help them out," said Mestas. "[Lori] said this tragedy happened, and she needed to move. She told me they were moving up north. I think she said Idaho or something like that. One of her daughters was in school in Idaho. She said they were moving up there to be with her, and so I said 'OK, let me see if I can find a home.' She said 'I need you to come get him right now.'"


BBM. There goes Lori lying again. One of her daughters was in school in Idaho? She only has Tylee and Tylee was still only 16. Also, someone remind me, how did we hear that the trainer of the dog saw the ad and required Lori to give the dog back? Where did that version of the story originate from? Could it have been Lori claiming to someone that the trainer took the dog back? MOO.

Could she have been referring to MB as her daughter seeing as they had such a close relationship? MOO

Why didn't Charles get out of the house the second Lori told Tylee to go out to the car to be with JJ, knowing he would be left alone with Alex and Lori? The two people he suspected would kill him. A phone can be replaced, its theft can be reported. I don't think he'd have stuck around to be killed.

Was he pinned down on the floor by Alex at that point? Lori retrieved his gun while he held Charles down? He already had his gun concealed on him?

It must be Charles' blood in the kitchen sink if Alex isn't bleeding. What was he doing handling Charles before calling 911? "Alex Cox reported that after the shooting he washed his hands in the kitchen sink." How did he give chest compressions causing "the large pool of blood that had formed underneath Vallow's body when his body was manipulated" but not get a speck of blood on him? Oo err, hang on...blood underneath the body? That sounds like Charles may have been shot in the back! Or did the bullet travel all the way through from front and out the back? If so, why no spatter with the bullet emerging? How did Charles end up lying flat on his back and not collapsed in an untidy heap? He's not a board that tips over. "I did not notice any other blood in the living room" "Based on the...and lack of blood spatter there was no indication that Vallow was moved" Says the crime scene expert who mopped up blood and didn't swab.

I reckon he sat on Charles' back, shot him in the back and then turned him over, to get blood on his hands. We need to see the autopsy to find out where the entry wounds were.

Cops bought the stories of the man who delayed calling 911 for at least half an hour while he apparently washed, changed his clothes and arranged his sun glasses (times according to Lori leaving after the shooting, and returning), who had no head wound but was claiming self defense, who was in physical contact with the body before washing, who may have shot a man turned away from him, probably lied about giving CPR for the past 5 minutes, and his laughing sister. Incredible!

I'd be livid if I were family seeing all this come out. They need answers, and so does the public.

I think LE is paying attention and has been for sometime, based on the warrants. A lot of the information they have gathered is not yet publicly available so, like media, the public has to wait. Based on what I know of the case so far, the case will involve more than the few or several homicides that the public is aware of at this time.

Hello. I just created an account here but have been lurking for years. I have been following this case closely since I heard about it a few weeks ago. I have read through the thread here since page one and don’t recall this mentioned.

Has anyone brought up the fact that JJ’s service dog was nowhere to be seen on the police body cam the day CV was killed?
The police enter the home and there is no dog barking or running around as far as I could see. I found that very strange. It was a big black dog. I don’t think I would of missed the dog on the video. Even when LE arrive AC said nothing about a dog being in the house.
Has this been talked about here and I missed it? Thank you.

I’ve been wondering if someone with knowledge could interpret the lividity that was found. We have no time on the report so I don’t know if normal to see when this report was done, but I would assume it was while Alex was outside on curb. So could only have been what 30 -45 min according to Alex’s story?

Mestas says Lori told him that Charles passed away, but didn't explain what happened.

"I learned later that he had been shot to death," said Mestas.

ALEX COX’S GUN: More details on the initial second-degree murder of Charles Vallow that Chandler Police currently rule as a self-defense homicide. This report details the findings of the fun Cox used in the shooting. A Springfield XD .45 caliber handgun lying on the carpet next to an orange duffel bag. Inside the bag, a black hard sided case with .45 caliber magazines and ammunition.

The detective recalls the magazine having five cartridges inside. The magazine indicated 13 cartridges could be loaded. The rest of the report describes the blood found in the kitchen sink, layout of the home and no sign that Charles had been moved.

I watche that earlier and if a fraction of it is true it’s scary. We’re not allowed to share YouTube videos from unverified sources though so I suspect it will get deleted. Crazy stuff though. MOO

I was spotting things that I was saying were ... questionable is a term I can get away with using, within the first minute.

Edit: I was also laughing at the way she was pronouncing the Book of Mormon names which she obviously had someone tell her in writing and not speaking because she massacres them. Nephi was "Neffie" for example.

Glad I am not the only one who has experienced weird happenings when side sleuthing down the rabbit hole of the extreme preppers. I know it was my imagination getting the best of me, but totally creeped me out!

@Portiz34 I hate hearing this. You’ve stuck your neck out way more than most of us. I think this is one case where that could really matter. I’m not typically paranoid but agree with the poster who said you should contact the police. Also lock your doors, keep kids/pets inside, look both ways before crossing streets/parking lots and don’t take food or drinks from strangers. We all want you to stay safe!.
