I absolutely agree that you are trying to apply logic where logic doesn't live. Hahaha. I'm actually surprised they got civilly married and didn't just hold some ceremony themselves in the forest, but my guess would be because of the optics, particularly for Chad's children, who would absolutely condemn sex before marriage. But you're right, their beliefs are ludicrous and don't make logical sense. I mean, killing people would be right out, too, but apparently they've gotten around that idea with some serious mental gymnastics.

Ha. I think Chad's children would also condemn sexy dancing videos before marriage too. And also while still being married to someone else. Their mother.

Oh this totally makes sense. I think this is also where his ego comes in. In Springville Utah everyone knew him from growing up there and always the 'wanna be popular guy'..so he spoke with his friends about his beliefs and they raised eyebrows at him and now he is seen as a nut going off the rails. Chad has to now go where he has people who see him as a rock-star visionary because his old friends sure dont. Add in a blonde chic fan girl and we get a full blown affair . What a mess! MOO
I would just clarify that Chad did not go deep into exposing his strangest beliefs, at least with me. If he had done that, with me and others, there would have been a much larger exposure of his disconnect, and it would have come to the attention of Tammy, and his local ecclesiastical leaders. This is why I said “testing the waters”. If I had been receptive, I expect he would have tried to lead me to sketchier pastures, until I was either all in, or missing.

If the police could trace movements of their vehicles (e.g. via traffic/surveillance cameras) after September 23 and got lucky analyzing their electronic footprint (phone pings, messages, etc.), then they might be able to determine when the kids likely went missing and suggest their possible locations. There might be witnesses who could have seen something suspicious, but haven't come forwards yet.

That's an answer to my question that I can see working. Cell phones for sure and potentially others things could show where they were and possibly videos there could show kids present or not and maybe tell a useful story.

If you have tens of thousands of gas stations and grocery stores, etc, with multiple cameras in each, how do you even know where and when to start looking? I'm not sure how long those kinds of places keep the video they recorded, but without having reason to believe the kids were within sight of the camera around a specific point in time (even if we're talking several days or a week) no one is going to check to begin with. What am I missing here?
How about starting with the cameras closest to Lori's home or the main roads heading out of town?

Police searching for Rexburg children believed to be in serious danger | East Idaho News

I believe this is going to be a more complicated case than it looks on the surface. The children's mother (Lori Wallows) recently married a man (Chad Daybell) a few weeks after his wife died. It was presumed the late wife had died of natural causes but was exhumed recently and her death is now being investigated.
The new wife's husband was shot in a family argument earlier this year:

Chandler Police identify man who was shot dead during family fight

The husband and wife are not cooperating with police and have since vanished.

I very much want to put foward the idea that perhaps Tylee was placed in a fdls community in the US or Mexico. It's her age that made me think maybe in their concept of faith, she was marriageable. It my hope , like everyone, both of the children are found safe. Perhaps by the grace of God , her brother is with her.

The problem with Idaho, is that once you leave main towns, and main freeways, there is no cell coverage. Sure, they could track last cell phone ping, but maybe they didn't take their cell phones with them. And, even if they did, Lori can blame everything on Alex. And, Alex is dead.

Dateline showed a brief clip of the church Lori and Charles attended when living in Hawaii. Is the church she and Chad attend?
I would assume if they were living in a condo in close proximity to the house Charles and Lori lived in it would be. Didn’t Charles and Lori rent the house in Hawaii? The program led me to believe they still owned it, but not by specifically saying it.
Based on land records they never owned property in Hawaii

I have a question ... last night’s dateline taught this group of online sleuths very little but it got me thinking. When one of Chad’s old missionary friends talked about visions and being talked to by God........what is a vision really?? I mean all these people with near death experiences. Do they flatline and then come back, or do they pass out then regain consciousness or are they just scared sh#tless for many minutes and then find themselves ok? Next, what constitutes a vision? I had my first open heart surgery as a baby my second at 10 years old. I have memories my subconscious holds on to, especially when being transferred onto the artificial heart and lung machine. I have dreams of seeing my family worried and scared in the waiting room. And yes I had a dream/memory of God telling me I am going to be OK. And low and behold I survived just as my surgeon (who was Mormon ) hoped I would. I have always felt a connection to God but I don’t attend church to have a relationship with the Lord. Anyhoo......does that mean I have had visions?? I just can’t believe all people haven’t had something like that happen to them at least once in their life. You know a dream that gives you more insight to your spiritual journey etc. I mean I had a dream that I met Brad Pitt and he wanted to go on a hike together, so we did and then ate watermelon...... does that mean i have a connection to Brad Pitt?? I am being silly of course but what I am trying to understand is these visions?? How do you verify a real one versus a thought, or idea, dream or wish? How does one know they are truly having a vision, or is it all a way to persuade a following that you are superior? Anyone have experience with the study of it? I just think you have got to have such an out of control, manipulative, narcissistic personality to think God ( who, I believe, talks to all of us in time of fear or pain) is handing the reigns over to them.

What proof does the state of Idaho have against Lori? They need evidence. And Lori obviously won't give them anything.

She is literally thumbing her nose at them. Even leaving all of the children's items in a storage unit. Deliberately not paying the fee on the unit. She knew that would end up with LEO. And there is not thing one that they can do about it.

And, the comment I referenced was made within hours of the deadline passing. At that point, based on what was known, Lori seemed only to be responsible for contempt of court. But, people were already questioning why she wasn’t immediately arrested, and that was a logical explanation. I don’t doubt that if/when she loses custody of the kids, that she would be charged with bigger crimes that held more serious consequences. She doesn’t seem to have lost custody yet, though. And, as you pointed out, it doesn’t seem to be 100% clear how the courts might go about accomplishing that right now.

Shortly after the deadline had passed for her to produce the kids, I came across a related news article. While skimming the comments, I came across one from someone who was familiar with the laws in Idaho. Apparently, as far as her not producing the kids, the only thing she is guilty of is misdemeanor contempt of court. Afterwards, I spent a few minutes researching to verify that, and it does appear to be the case. Unfortunately, most states aren’t going to extradite on a misdemeanor. So, hopefully there’s more going on behind the scenes, and they’re carefully building a bigger case.

e.g the Court taking custody is one such approach

I agree with your point, but we need to remember too, that LE had already found, searched, and taken some items from the storage unit before she stopped paying. So perhaps once she became aware of that, there was no need to keep paying. IMO.

Just as a "Devil's Advocate" question, why would she lose custody of her children? Both of the Fathers are dead. That leaves Grandparents of JJ. What standing do they really have? Grandparents rights for visitation? Pretty nonexistent.

Idaho law on Grandparents rights

"The court may award visitation rights if visitation is in the child's best interest. Adoption cuts off all visitation rights of grandparents."

Grandparents' Rights in Idaho
Which means, because JJ is adopted, that cut off all visitation rights of Grandparents.

Lori doesn't even have to show up, they literally have no real standing. Sadly.

But they aren't filing for grandparent rights. They are filing a guardian case. Jmo

The amount of times people confuse Idaho and Iowa is a source of joke here in Idaho. We even make t-shirts. :)
How can people confuse corn and potatos?

I still dont understand why we think we will never find them? Where did they go? There has to be at the very least security or camera footage somewhere that shows the kids and what everyone was up to over the months, I mean even gas stations, grocery stores? They couldn't just poof nowadays, I dont understand it, people are in jail for less. Imo
We have a horrible case here in Utah, missing mother, Susan Powell. The geography in Idaho and Utah is vast. This was really emphasized during the search for Susan Powell, who was never found. You can drive on state roads for hundreds of miles and pass 1 car. It is empty and beautiful.

I was disappointed that the Dateline special did not delve into Lori & Alex's background. I mean, these two siblings seem like they are both totally unhinged. I want to know about their childhood family life/dynamics, what kind of household they grew up in, what they were exposed to in their formative years, what the parents were like, etc. What on earth was going on in that household to make this brother and sister into such monsters?

Would she lose custody if she's collecting SS benefits and they aren't in her care?

That is a good question. This may be the best plan for LEO. I don't know, maybe the money is going into a trust fund, and what can the federal government do about that? The children are entitled to the money. If Lori has the funds going to a trust, the government has no right to know anything else.

It is very frustrating. I keep thinking, maybe taxes will trip them up. That is what brought down Al Capone.
