A thought or two about the trip to Maui. Disclaimer I work in finance so while this is MOO its rooted in what I do everyday.

A while back one of our Hawaii posters made some comments about banks that were on Kauai and how there were only a select few, I am assuming this is probably true for financial institutions. So here are my thoughts what if they had to sign a document in person with a bank or financial institution, we have some forms that can not be signed online and have to have a "wet signature" (not electronic real life signature) these are mostly involved with moving money to third parties, transferring accounts, and changing ownership of accounts. I have not done any research on what financial instituions/banks are on Maui vs. Kauai was wondering if any of our lovely Hawaii experts have any insider knowledge on this?

You could be on to something. I live in Hawaii, on the Big Island. One thing that is extremely difficult to get here is a Medallion Signature Guarantee (google it, too hard to explain. But it is sometimes required for transferring over $50,000 or so between financial institutions, especially investment companies. I would think that it would be easier to do on Maui than Kauai, BUT, Oahu would be a far better bet and closer. But your conjecture seems plausible to me.

That is actually a great idea. I worked in finance in a large city and it was something we had to refer to management. However, the holiday kinda throws that off, unless they went to a bank on Tuesday. I can think of two major banks locally, in Lahaina. I feel like there would have to be somewhere on Kauai that can do that, though. I imagine it’s common enough to need and not fly out for, although it was rare for me to come across at my old place of employment.

The Dateline episode has Keith and Nate visiting the storage facility. Nate explains that the owner made a list of visits by Lori and others. The shot pans over a whiteboard with time they entered and left the facility (in 24 hour clock style), who visited (Lori or male/s) and type of vehicle. The camera shot starts on Oct 6 and ends with the date of the search warrant. He even notes the day of Tammy's funeral.

I took screenshots of the whiteboard, 10/25 and 10/26 overlap. Between this and Nate's original story, we should have a pretty comprehensive list of times and dates of visits.

This is really helpful- thank you. The unit is so small, they average about 10 minutes each visit except 10/28, 6 minutes and 11/24 - a whopping 4 minutes. They clearly want to get in and out fast on these days.

Lori's mom and dad are both alive.
Oh, woah, interesting. I will go through things again. I have been busy planning a trip and just threw a little bit of time at Ancestry. Thanks.

I have ancestry- what can I look up there for us?
I looked up ZP yesterday. Seems to have ties in Montana via a previous marriage. She was young. Long way from Chile. It was discussed a million threads ago that Alex traveled to Columbia. I never saw the source for that. Maybe it wasn’t Columbia, maybe Chile. Just a rabbit hole I fell in. Not sure it is of any value.

Just a thought- I wonder if the attorney from Idaho flew in to meet them in Maui? I can see them being very paranoid about having phone conversations or communication through email. Would it be possible that they are meeting with an attorney located in Maui? Maybe to assist them in staying in Hawaii rather than have to go back to Idaho? I am not knowledgable in these kinds of legal matters but I think that there are two things that would get them to leave Kauai- money, as the earlier poster in the financial industry stated or legal issues. I think they will do anything to remain there. MOO
Much like with banks, the availability on Maui of attorneys would be similar to Kauai. If you wanted a lawyer experienced with all the complicated multistate custody and extradition stuff you would go to Oahu. I don't think Maui has a federal courthouse so any federal proceedings would be in Honolulu. If they were meeting a lawyer I don't think it would be in Maui.

The accuracy of Ancestry is only as good as the person who created the tree. Is that person even from the family? Be skeptical of what you find on Ancestry, always look for verified source documents. Just MO

What did you all think about the part of the Dateline episode where East Idaho News received "a ping" location for Lori's phone in Kauai from "a sleuth" and that location turned out to be within a couple hundred feet of the townhouse they were renting in Kauai? Did someone hack Lori's phone or G-mail account to see her saved locations? Or was someone guessing based on where Lori once lived with Charles? I'm not sure how to include that detail in the timeline since they didn't give a date when that tip was sent. But I found that fascinating... o_O:cool: MOO.

With so much public interest in the case, an amateur “sleuth” (hacker?) , concerned for the welfare of the children, could have sent a file to one of her electronic devices that would include a program to track activity and possibly location...? MOO

Theres a site someone posted, sometime in this case, where you pay 7 something to ping a phone. I was disturbed. Another possibility. Jmo.

This is what I suggested, except that my thoughts were that it would be the FBI assisting in exploiting her phone. They have a treasure trove of exploits to use.

Does anyone know if they made it back to Kauai? I don't see anything, but wanted to point out that their flight out of Maui stopped on Oahu before continuing to Kauai.

I'm not 100%, but I think they were staying at Marriott Maui Ocean Club. The floor material in the lobby def matches up.

It also niggles at me that they were photographed at Costco on Kauai on Thursday afternoon with a shopping cart with plenty of fresh fruit and veg in it. A bag of avocados at Costco comes with maybe 6, I think. Did they have time to eat all that stuff before leaving on Sunday? It takes my family a week to go through a Costco weekly purchase of fresh veg/fruit. It does make me wonder if their trip to Maui was a last minute thing.

they are on a strict health regime it seems - a couple who are juicing and doing smoothies can easily use up that much fresh fruit in a couple of days.

Good point about having to report to management. I could see this having been handled quite secretively, with some bank official or another taking care of it privately on a holiday so no one else would be around. It's not like it was Christmas day or anything....

Could this case go cold? All witnesses to murders dead? No trace of children?

If ZP and Alex had been in a long term relationsip, their wedding would not have appeared as impersonal as it did.

Agreed. The correlation I took away was travel to Latin America.

my understanding is that Zulema was just real tight with the doomsday group...as mentioned by Lori's friend April in the Dateline broadcast.

Yes, but this doesn't say anything about the length of her relationship with Alex. It doesn't look like he was an active member of the group, although Lori had an influence on him.

On Tuesday, a fellow churchgoer in Hawaii spoke to Arizona’s Family on the condition of anonymity. For purposes of this article, we will call him John. “The first time, when I saw her, I was like, ‘Really? What are you guys doing here?’ All of the members were surprised to see them at the church,” John said

At least the local members of the church have the sense to distance themselves. Good for them. Jmo

I liked that brother “John” remembered the kids when they were little, and that Charles was good and friendly.
