On the 4pm KBOI TV news just now, in an update of the case, the announcer said police want to talk to a man who was seen in the area at the time the hiker went missing. Said he was dressed in black and walking a dog. May have seen the hiker. I don't think it is online yet.

Oh wait. It was already reported yesterday.

Deputies say they would like to speak to a man who was seen hiking in the area Saturday. They say this man was in the area when the hiker went missing.

According to deputies, the man was wearing all black clothing walking a small gray dog Saturday around 2:30 p.m. on the Dry Creek Trail.

Search continues for missing hiker off Bogus Basin Road

BOISE, Idaho (CBS 2) — Searchers have been working around the clock, looking for a missing 27-year-old Boise man who went hiking alone Saturday in a trail system area off Bogus Basin Road five miles north of Boise.

"We think our subject could be possibly in something around 20, 25 maybe 30 square miles," said Gregg Rettschlag with Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue.

Ground crews have been helped by a snowmobile, a snow cat and a National Guard helicopter as well as search dogs.

Deputies say they found the man's car near the trailhead Monday morning.

"Our searchers are looking for somebody in whatever condition," said Rettschlag. "We don't spend a lot of time thinking about subject's condition. We do think about what may have occurred to help us in the search. We have to work through different possibilities. Somebody who gets injured, or with snow on the trail, it's possible to lose the trail. Maybe he was exploring and got turned around. So maybe it's injured or lost."

Name released with photo

BOISE — When Kyle Crowden, 27, didn’t show up for a “mom date” with his mother Janet Coupe on Sunday afternoon, she thought he had just forgotten and had gone about his normal Sunday routine — laundry, hanging with friends, or maybe he got called into work.

When he didn’t show up for work at Western Power Sports in Boise, Coupe knew something was wrong; Crowden is responsible, she said.

Coupe and her best friend, Sharon Morrison, called and texted Crowden and drove back and forth in front of his apartment. But they never received a reply, and his car never appeared in its usual spot.

Crowden didn’t tell her he was going hiking, but he went out to explore trails at least once a week, and often by himself. They never had concerns before.

“He’s a good hiker,” Coupe said.

Crowden was last heard from Saturday afternoon, and for the past two days, his family has searched alongside the Ada County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue Unit volunteers. Coupe’s brother-in-law and son spent five hours on Wednesday braving the snowy trails with the search teams who walked all the way into Boise County from Bogus Basin.

The conditions over the days have worsened. At the end of Wednesday, when a three-man search crew returned, they had covered all of the best possible trail locations based on where Crowden’s car was found, rescue volunteer Christi Kelley said.

Weather impedes search for missing Boise hiker

Coupe started messaging his friends on Facebook, hoping for clues as to where Crowden could be. One tip from a hiking buddy led her to the Dry Creek Trailhead, about 4.5 miles up Bogus Basin Road. That’s where at 9:10 Monday morning, she found his car.

Two detectives in Boise have also been exploring any possibilities of what could have happened, Ada County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Rowe said. Crowden’s car was found untouched, with no indication of foul play.

Still places to search. His mom is a trooper, for sure. I don't blame her a bit. Such a sad story.

Missing foothills hiker's mother speaks out for the first time about continuing the search

She drove up to the trailhead and found her son's beige Toyota Camry nearby.

"No clues whatsoever, my husband and I checked the trunk because that obvious even to a layman," Coupe said.

She says the search being called off is unacceptable as a mom but has a few theories of her own on where he might have gone.

"I think he is either buried in the snow, got to a cabin, there are 5 or 6 cabins off of Boise Ridge Road," she said. "Or I recently located an Eddy's Bread truck myself when I rented a helicopter yesterday, it was pushed off of river road, we're thinking he could be in that Eddy's box truck, possibly deceased but I would find him at least."

Coupe says those cabins are being searched by volunteers today.

She and some of her family will be at mile marker five off of Bogus Basin Road for the next few days as they continue to search for Crowden.

Search will resume for 27-year-old Boise hiker who went missing more than a month ago

On Monday, search and rescue teams will resume looking for a 27-year-old man who went missing last month while hiking in the Boise Foothills, according to an Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue spokesman.

Aaron Burdin told the Statesman on Sunday that the all-volunteer search organization plans to resume its search for the hiker, identified by KTVB as Kyle Crowden, more than a month after initial rescue efforts were called off due to worsening weather.

Thanks for that news, @GuyfromCanada ! Of course, the coroner's confirmation of identity is needed, but his mother thinks it is Kyle. I know his mother would not have rested until she found her youngest child. It would have been amazing if he had survived, but at least he is no longer missing. Some more quotes from the source:

The Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue Unit retrieved the body, which was down a ravine approximately 30 to 40 feet deep, underneath a tree and brush, according to Ron Christensen, search unit vice president. The area was steep, he said, and was covered by snow until recently.

Unit members carried it out of the trail about four miles, said Christensen. The body had no signs of injury, Orr said.

Crowden's mother, Janet Coupe, posted on social media on Thursday that Kyle was no longer lost. Coupe told the Idaho Press last month that "time has stood still" since the day her son went missing.

"The baby of our family is not missing any longer," Coupe wrote. "Thank you to the stranger who alerted police where Kyles body was. Thank you Mike Rowe and Idaho Search and rescue."

ETA: RIP Kyle.

Thankful that Kyle's mother can have closure and time to grieve. He sounded like a wonderful, caring son. (Photo of the trail where he went missing)
