ID ID - Michael “Monkey” Vaughan, 5, last seen near home, Fruitland, 27 Jul 2021 #3

If there is any case that I wish to see reassigned to a different law enforcement agency, it is this one. IMO, this case is going no where if it stays with Fruitland PD. IMO they need to start from scratch, interviewing and investigating everyone who was at the house when Michael disappeared.

Curious whether you’re local. I ask because I have family in Meridian and wonder if your thoughts indicate maybe we are not dealing with the best of LE. Happens all the time. Look forward to your input. This is a case I mostly stayed away from until recently because it is difficult at best. TIA.

I am not local. This is all MOO from what i have read about the case in MSM, and seen in social media. This case set off my hinky meter from the get-go.

Are you implying the family are involved?
I too wasn't sure what that meant. But for better or worse, FPD has handed the case over to the Payette County Prosecutors Office. It's been with that office for over six months, so the ball is in their court. If the case has weak spots, it's their job to figure that out in order to move forward. Let's hope the PCPO has competent eyes on this.

Does anyone here subscribe to the Argus Observer? This is a new article, but it is behind a paywall. I'm wondering what item the Fruitland PD purchased. Since the article just dropped, hopefully other publications will also print the information.

... wait. They're trying to BUY a piece of evidence???

What on earth? How would they end up needing to buy it instead of just confiscating it?

Is speculation about what this might be permitted? Because racking my brain, I just cannot imagine.

I have no idea what it could be, but it says it is "required for forensic processing," so it must have something to do with the testing of potential evidence. The FBI has been actively involved in this case from the beginning, and I can't imagine what type of item needed for forensic testing wouldn't have been available through the FBI. I hope more information will come out.

The Argus Observer

As part of their continued efforts to solve the case of missing child, Michael Vaughan, Fruitland Police are trying to purchase something related to investigation. Here's the latest in a story that has stretched out since July of 2021.

Fruitland Police Department gets $6K to buy item for Michael Vaughan case

Good thought @charminglane or maybe equipment to perform testing?

10. The Council reviewed a request from Police Chief Huff to purchase an item believed to have evidentiary value and required for forensic processing regarding the Michael Vaughan Investigation. Councilor Pierson moved to approve the purchase request in the amount of $6,000.00. with funds to be used from the Michael Vaughan Reward Fund. Seconded by Councilor Limbaugh. Motion carried.

I went to the City Council meeting (1/27/25) website thinking there might be more details, but nope!
@charminglane's thought on a car is probably correct! They were operating a taxi service at the time Michael went missing. Stacy also mentioned a truck in that rambling interview released recently.

I suppose a car takes sense as the item, but makes zero sense with the buying it part...

Even cars don't get purchased when they're evidence; they're confiscated.

I mean... Purchasing evidence would create a conflict of interest, among other ethical concerns, that would likely destroy any evidentiary value since it wouldn't be admissible!

Quite possibly unrelated, but keeping an eye on this. Caldwell is about half an hour from Fruitland.

While it could still be related, I did not find any of the 4 names on the record as having lived at this address now or in the past. Although these things aren't always accurate... It wasn't like a for-sure with their name attached the the property. I did surface digging and didn't dig deep.
