ID -Multiple firefighters reportedly shot while responding to fire near Coeur d’Alene

• Two killed: Two people, believed to be fire personnel, were fatally shot and others injured while responding to a brush fire in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The sheriff said they were “still in that process” of removing the people who have died from the mountain.

• Injuries unclear: It is unknown how many people were injured in the shooting, and hikers and residents are still “stuck” on the mountain, officials said. The attack is taking place in the Canfield Mountain Natural Area, a 24-acre park on the east side of the city with heavy tree cover.

So, looking through satellite technology the hottest fire in Idaho atm isn't near this, it's in Owyee County, Idaho. That fire is unfortunately growing fast. Hopefully, this will assist those searching for the shooters.

Will the heat from the fire and possible hot spots even if extinguished prevent thermal imaging drones from being useful later if the shooter(s) are still extant after dark and try to move out of the area? That might be a dumb question, but I don't know enough about the imaging science to know.

A heat signature of a person looks pretty different than a heat signature from a fire. They have all road exits pretty well locked down, even at Bumblebee which would be the “back exit” from Canfield mountain 35 miles away near Kellogg, ID.

IMO firefighters are HEREOS, not ZEROS like whoever is behind this heinous act. They did not deserve to be taken out by doing their job, and a difficult job at that. We need more people like them and less like whoever is behind this.

Oh... if only I had a magic wand... You'd better believe I'd be waving it in their direction.

This concerns me. ...."still in the process of removing people who have died from the mountain.."
Earlier an article described two ambulances driving "slowly" to the hospital. Slowly as in the patients were deceased?

And there's still more on the mountain?
And they still don't know how many others injured, or died because they can't get to them?

These are incredibly popular hiking trails, easily hundreds of people using them on nice weekends.

This is dreadful!

Police know that on any given call, they may be shot or attacked in some manner, whereas firefighters know they may die in a fire——but not attacked by people ambushing them.

I’m a New Yorker who lived through 9/11, and even though of course this is not of the same magnitude, I again have that ache. Firefighters are typically not controversial; they are purely lifesavers.

How absolutely horrible.

IMO
