I was looking threw the links looking for the same answer, LaLaw!

Me too!!!! I think that is why LA and I were thinking of Sandra Cantu (ie, farm worker).. isolated terrain a straight shot out of town.. down an access road and in water...

I am wondering who discovered this body and under what circumstances. Was it a farmer? TIA to anyone who might know.

I wouldn't think LE would be searching that far away yet. So it must be someone just happened to notice the body, or they got a confession that led them to search there.

I've been following Lindsey Baum's disappearance and the gang has been zeroing in on creeks and canals, etc. I can see why now!!!

I just heard a body has been found- does anyone know how far it is from where Robert was last seen? Thanks.

Here's a pic of the access road leading to the canal in that location, for anyone unable to get a close in shot. It looks as though the occupants of the house directly on the right could have potentially seen something if the canal was in fact accessed via this dirt road.

I hope it doesn't take them long to make that arrest TODAY.

I just want them to make sure they dot all their 'i's and cross all their 't's, so that there's not the slightest chance for an acquittal. Plus, I wouldn't mind knowing that the perp is sweating big a@@ bullets a little while longer, and having that "Jaws" theme song playing in their head, knowing LE is coming for them. Afterall if it is Robert, the time of arrest is not going to do anything for him.

It seems to be such an isolated place that I was wondering if it was a farmer. I want to know. This had to be a place the monster dumping the body was familiar with, IMO. Robert (if it is Robert) could not have gotten there by himself.

The sides of the road and the terrain made me think of Sandra Cantu immediately.

UPDATED: The search for Robert Manwill: Coroner working to ID body found in canal
Published: 08/03/09
<snipped>
The Ada County Coroner is trying to identify a body found in a canal between Boise and Kuna near Cloverdale Road and Hubbard Road.

Boise police postponed a press conference to update the disappearance of 8-year-old Robert Manwill while investigators determine whether this is connected.

The canal is about two miles southwest of a home Boise police searched Friday night — but it's also connected to the New York Canal, which runs less than half a mile south of the Vista Avenue apartment complex from which Manwill was reported missing.

A canal company worker said it would be possible for a body to travel from where the canal passes Vista Avenue to where a body was found Monday.

In the past several years, bodies have been known to travel far down canals over several days and even a few weeks.

UPDATED: Body found in Kuna canal could be linked to Robert Manwill investigation
August 3, 2009
Updated 20 minutes ago

A boy's body has been found in a canal near Kuna, and officials believe the finding may be connected to the search for a missing Boise 8 year old.

Ada County Sheriff's Office received a call to its dispatch center about 1:30 p.m. The caller reported that he or she had found the body of a male juvenile in the New York Canal near East Deer Flat Road in Kuna, according to Ada County spokeswoman Andrea Dearden. The Ada County coroner will identify the body and determine the cause of death. Officials form the coroner's office transported the body from the scene.

Boise Police Department cancelled a press conference to update reporters on the search for Robert Manwill, scheduled for 2 p.m. today, after hearing of the body found in the canal. Officials at the press conference indicated that incident at the canal is related to the Manwill investigation, but would not give further details. Boise Police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower went to the scene where the body was found, but did not give any additional details.

The Ada County Coroner is on the scene, and police say the person is dead. The coroner has not confirmed the sex, age or identity of the body, though dispatchers did tell KTVB that initial reports say the body was that of a male juvinile.

The New York Canal, where the body was found, runs from an area near the apartment complex where Manwill was reported missing - and the scene where today's body was found, however police officials tell NewsChannel 7 it is not certain the body would be able to get from one point to another.

There are several grates in the water between the two scenes that could block objects from passing through. The canal measures about 14 miles between the apartment area and the location where the body was found.

Polcie initially said last week that they had ruled out the canal as a search location

Dispatchers tell us no other children have been reported missing today.

The family of Robert Manwill has gathered at Boise Police headquarters, and is awaiting further word on the outcome of this situation.

This part bothers me (not only because the reporter can't spell) a great deal especially since we had a search today which ended up with the child being found right across the highway where 100 officers neglected to search for her. (She was alive and well.) Search For Missing 2 YO Found Alive Raises Questions - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

How did they rule it out if they now have a body there? If they had bothered searching it...wouldn't they have found him sooner?

Polcie initially said last week that they had ruled out the canal as a search location

A prior link said a body could not make it down that far due to irrigation gates, etc. This article says it can. Which is it? Could Robert have possibly drowned in the canal? I know the ME will be able to tell...

It does seem to say that a canal worker stated that it is possible for a body to travel in that canal.

And I agree with you, Liz. It is so very important to 'get this case right' because we do not want there to be any technicality come up that will help whomever is charged. You are right. For the moment it is important that if this is Robert, he has been located. Robert is already a new angel in heaven.

I am always one that wants to know sooner than I know is possible. Cannot help it. I am so infuriated and sickened by child murders.

Well, if it is possible for a body to float that far downstream it is possible that Robert fell into the river/canal accidentally. But, he would have to walk a mile to get to the river/canal and he would have to know how to get there at night.

I dunno. He was 8, hiding in cabinets while in the care of his mother who fractured her baby's skull last year. Maybe he did run away, got lost and ended up in the water but I just don't think this was an accident. Someone put him in the water.
