until we know more... we just don't know HOW LONG the body has been in the water

Something here is seriously not adding up. We assume that this child has gone missing due to 'injury or a tragic event' as per BPD. They apparently seize all sorts of evidence from the home of MJ in uhaul trucks, and now there is this mysterious little body that's turned up in water adjacent to a canal that runs (it's my understanding) a half a mile behind MJ's apartment. Without the criminal records and the 'possible tragic event' revelation, this looks a whole lot like a curious little boy who MAY HAVE wandered off or just 'vanished.'
I'm not saying that they're innocent. I'm not saying that they're guilty either. I'm going to have to ride the fence on this one because something in all of this is just really strange.
It sure looks like it IS in fact a 'tragic event' (as in an accidental drowning) OR it looks as though someone worked pretty hard to stage this scene and to make it look like he wandered off and drowned. Doesn't it, or is it just my overactive imagination?

don't know if I am reposting this but this is a link that states it's not possible for the body to float all the way down! I am a watermaster for a irragation line and I know we have big grates to stop things from going down!

Welcome to WS, Staci~ Thanks for the information since what we are seeing here is conflicted. It is important to know if he could have gone in near the apartment or not. It could lend itself to an accidental drowning theory for the defense of someone should they be arrested.

OMG! I have been working on my 73 Mustang most of the day and got on to see if there is any news for Robert and learned about the body in the canal ! I am just beside myself..I hope we hear something soon. I am praying for Robert's family I can't even imagine...:(

*That* is very troubling, to me, SS! WTH is going on??
I hope it doesn't get lost in a murder investigation that they dropped the ball on searching the canal. Someone should take responsibility for that decision and be fired, imo. If this was ruled out last week as a possible search location...look at the time, effort, and money wasted searching other areas.

It could be that if he was killed and then dumped in the canal, the killer might have weighted him down with something that just recently came loose, allowing his body to float to the surface. Just food for thought, but still troubling that the canal was ruled out so early on.

I agree something is not adding up here...I hope they have some news for everyone by today...

If it is Robert, and if there are grates to prevent a body from passing with the flow, then someone placed him near where he was found.

I had to sit here for a while before I could even post. I read that a body had been found and was just...I can't even put it into words. In a way I am praying that this IS Robert. Because I think at this point, it is pretty certain that he is no longer with us, and he needs to be found and brought home.

I know it has been mentioned that possibly Robert (if this is him) somehow had an accidental drowning. Which...I would say is possible, BUT not with the "evidence" that has been found. The evidence that said Robert may be the victim of a "tragic event". And all of the searching and digging and evidence removal, etc.

Praying for Robert's family at this time. Even if this is not him, just waiting and wondering must be pure torture. And if it is, which seems likely, the hope ends. :(

On the map I posted a couple up... look at the canal, follow it along... see the lighter spots that cover the width?

Are those the grates? If so, you can see exactly where he was put into the water.

If it were another local child who drowned, was missing, etc... we'd have heard that.

I only see 2 or maybe 3 roads where he could have been dumped into the canal.

I am just going to have to wait and see what LE & the ME says. A little boy wandering off and accidently falling into a canal and drowning would not have left blood evidence in the apartment, IMO, unless he was injured first. A large amount of blood would not be logical.

I just have a feeling that the COD will not be drowning, MOO. We will find out in time whether Robert's lungs contained any water indicative of drowning.

I am now going to get my horse out from behind my cart in that I am beginning to get the cart in front of the horse. I am jumping the gun here.

Dont know if this has been posted:

UPDATE: Boy's body found in canal, Manwill connection investigated

KUNA - A body has been pulled from an area canal - and a briefing related to the disappearance of Robert Manwill has been cancelled.

Just after 1:30 p.m., police responded to the New York Canal in the area of Deer Flat and Stewart St. in the Kuna area.

The Ada County Coroner is on the scene, and police say the person is dead. The coroner has not confirmed the sex, age or identity of the body, though dispatchers did tell KTVB that initial reports say the body was that of a male juvenile

I am not ready to point fingers at LE. They have been very tight lipped in this case regarding the evidence they found early on... we just don't know if they REALLY ruled out the canal or if they did why they did.. I think they have done a great job in this case considering the degree to which they have been able to keep the lid on everything including people speaking to the media. The things the media have gotten are very, very minimal and so I think there is a lot of speculation going on for their part. Imhoo...

shutterfly,
I am highly doubtful the little guy drowned in the canal, but if he did, the mom is probably in trouble for manslaughter or some sort of negligence charges because she failed to use reasonable care supervision, etc.
I feel bad for the dad, as he is probably feeling its somehow his fault for not protecting his son more. If the courts said he had to let Robert visit his mom, he had to comply.

They are talking about Robert on HLN right now. Nothing new so far....

We are not even positive there was blood evidence; and if so, whose blood it was, right? So, I agree we should be a little more patient, in that respect.

I agree with your MOO, LaLAW.

When I started reading your last snippet, I thought you were going to say you were going out to go ride your horse now. ;) I'm trying to avoid putting my cart before my horse, too.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the ME or Coroner to
determine whether it was a drowning or not?

Just heard (HLN) it was a blue shirt with a Superman Logo on the little boy's body that was found. (Another thing I never understood was through the power of deducing what clothing was still at the apt,*why* didn't Robert's "egg donor" come to the conclusion exactly what shirt Robert was wearing when he went 'missing', so that she could've helped with the clothing description?)

Editing because Underdog thinks reporter (HLN) said they saw a blue shirt but didn't know IF there was a Superman logo on it or not. I thought different but am not sure now. (Tired. Stressed. Need somoe rest.)

It would be interesting to know the depth of the canal water at the time of disappearance versus the map photo. Does anyone know? An 8 yo would need a strong current or some depth, wouldn't they?
