Nichols was reported missing to LPD on September 29th, 2020 after he failed to show up to a job site on the 28th and has been unable to be reached by family.

He was last seen on September 25th, 2020 checking out of a hotel in Lewiston, officials said. His cell phone was last used at this same location.

The same day, he used a company credit card to put fuel in his work vehicle, a white 1999 Chevrolet Suburban bearing Idaho license plate 6C52533. The vehicle has cargo doors in the back and should contain a large survey box.

The investigation has confirmed that Nichols left the Seaport building and south parking lot of the Red Lion Hotel in Lewiston on September 25, 2020, at approximately 8:24 AM.

Investigators have obtained statements indicating Nichols was going to be headed back to his residence in Saint Maries, Idaho on September 25, 2020. It is believed that Nichols used a company gas card at the Liberty Mart located at 226 W. 22nd Street N., on September 25, 2020, at 11:04 AM.

Nichols is known to sometimes camp in a tent or in his work vehicle, though it is out of character for him to fail to contact family or report in to a job site.

Weird. Of course I always think they're in water or off a cliff somewhere when the vehicle disappears and such an ordinary last sighting..

Missing man’s Suburban found on logging road near St. Maries | Northwest | lmtribune.com
The Chevrolet Suburban used by a man who went missing in late September has been found by a hiker about 4 to 5 miles from St. Maries on an old logging road in the Flat Creek area in Benewah County.

“There is no indication of foul play,” Resser said. “We’ll take it one step at a time.”

The resident who called authorities about the vehicle Friday had seen it at the same location at the end of September, but did not think it was unusual because it was hunting season. The resident had not returned to the area until Friday, and called the Benewah County Sheriff’s Office, he said.

The spot is near a residential area and Nichols had done survey work there in the past. It is also a popular spot to hunt and area hunters said they did not see any signs of Nichols, Resser said.
