Smollett explained: "I want you to attack me, but when you hit me, I want you to kind of pull your punches a bit because I don’t want to get seriously hurt," according to Webb. He also said to put a rope around his neck to “make it look more like a lynching, like a hate crime."

Webb says surveillance cameras captured Smollett's car exactly where the brothers said it was when the three of them discussed the attack plan on Jan. 25, 2019. A dry run was scheduled for that Sunday.

Webb: It was 11 below zero. 2 a.m. Brothers, who arrived 15 minutes early, are actually just waiting by a bench down the street in the dark. "They were freezing." When they see Jussie, they attack as plan, yell slurs, pour bleach on his clothes and put rope around neck

Webb shows jury a surveillance photo of Smollett walking up the stairs to his apartment with the rope still around his neck and a Subway sandwich in his hand. When police arrive 30 min later, Webb says, Smollett "has tampered with this rope."

"Apparently he wanted it to make it look more like a lynching," Webb says. "By the time the police get there, Mr. Smollett has moved the knot closer to his throat. ..."He wanted it to look like something more serious."

Webb: #JussieSmollett refused to turn over his phone to police or submit to DNA test so they could analyze the rope. Weeks later he turned over limited phone calls with his manager that were “useless” to the investigation.

Webb now delivers the understatement of the year: “The police figured out something is going on here.”

He still was hanging on to his sandwich?? Bhawhaaa haaa haaa!

Jason Meisner (@jmetr22b) Tweeted:
As expected, Smollett’s attorney Nenye Uche is slamming the Osundairo brothers as opportunists and liars who did not like Jussie “because of who he is as a person.”

“They pretended to like him. Jussie thought he had a friend. But that friendship ran one way.”

Jason Meisner (@jmetr22b) Tweeted:
“They are not some foreign exchange students from Nigeria,” Uche says. “They are sophisticated, highly intelligent criminals.” He says they had “weapons of war” in their home when police searched it, even though Bola was a convicted felon.

BBM The defense can bring up previous bad acts or crimes of witnesses? I mean, technically isn’t Jussie a criminal too?

Uche says there’s no physical or forensic evidence tying Smollett to the alleged hoax. “It’s fantasy.” He also says there’s no evidence Smollett was upset with situation at “Empire.” “Jussie was not a person who liked attention. Even his publicist was frustrated at him for that.”

Jason Meisner (@jmetr22b) Tweeted:
Uche ended by imploring jurors to “do your jobs” which prompted Webb to jump up and object, saying “this is argument!” After Judge Linn agreed, Uche said, “Thank you for your time and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.”

@mickey2942 Thx for your post w link to Feb 2019 article* re JS appearing as narrator & correspondent on episode about "hate crimes, specifically lynching."
JS is being tried for Jan 2019 crime right?
So time-wise, "America Divided" episode on hate crimes & lynching (scheduled for airing May 2018**) was recorded well before then, yes?
Or do I have timeline scrambled? my2ct

“Epix is no longer making available the episode of ‘America Divided’ featuring Jussie Smollett.

** imdb.com shows JS as "star" plus director & writer names, but otherwise a mostly-empty entry for series 2, episode 4; does not show episode title or describe as hate crime/lynching episode, for May 2018.

Yes. I believe that you can still view it on YouTube.

I truly believe that this entire situation was far more than a prank to get attention. MOO is that JS wanted to start some sort of racial/political situation.

What is interesting to me, was the commentary by Dave Chappelle on JS, it finally made sense to me.

Thanks for mentioning this. On youtube, I found a trailer* for the JS episode.
Clicking on the bit.ly link there, I cannot do a search for the episode itself.
Maybe there's another way to watch? TiA

.

I really really think that keeping that sandwich is going to be a big deal with the jurors.

If he really was assaulted by 2 MAGA /Klansman who put a rope around his neck and yelled racist threats at him in the middle of the street at 2 am---why would he be holding on to his subway sandwich through it all?

I think it is going to make the jurors think he wasn't really worried during the 'assault' and was just acting, and held on to the sammie because he was hungry.
