The body of 23 year old Amanda Pucci was found on Tuesday morning (5/6/2014) in an alley behind the 1000 block of North Wood Street (near corner of Wood and Augusta) about 7:25 a.m. Her purse and cell phone were missing. She was celebrating Cinco de Mayo at local bar evilOlive (1551 W. Division) with some girlfriends (possibly female co-workers).

Pucci was thought to have been on her way home to an apartment in the 2500 West block of Augusta. Some indication that she felt sick as did another friend. The friends she was with at the bar are described as “not forthcoming”.

The autopsy revealed no signs of sexual assault. Death was due to overdose of heroin and alcohol, despite no presence of needle marks on her body or drug powder in her nose or mouth. Friends and family say she would not do heroin as someone close to her had had problems with it in the past. Autopsy indicated that she was otherwise healthy and suggested she was not a drug user.

The police obtained surveillance footage from evilOlive, but it is not publicly available.

Amanda was from New York, and had just moved into the Chicago neighborhood from Fox Lake, IL. She was working as a server for Moretti’s, a restaurant in Edison Park (a northwest suburb of Chicago). She had moved to Chicago to be with her boyfriend. The boyfriend did not go out to the bar that night since he had to work in the morning.

A local television show profiled her case in August 2018. The Case File Chicago episode is here

Not exactly a perfectly safe area - it's being gentrified, but there are still some areas that are kind of rough with gang activity.
