GUILTY IL - Antinette 'Toni' Keller, 18, DeKalb, NIU Student, 14 October 2010

  • #21
It was homecoming weekend before she disappeared. This means that a lot of police officers were in the area all weekend starting on Thurday. But it also means that a lot of different people that weren't normally on campus or in the area were here. Also, after the shooting a few years ago less people decided to go home but she was a Freshmen so she may have been homesick. I've seen the area around the Junction and it's always crowded with people during the day because of several resturants and a bunch of stores.

WELCOME citihawk! Thanks for joining us here at WS. See you are in DeKalb, a local. Sorry you are here under such dier circumstances. Hope we can all work together and find this beautiful girl.

She was carrying a portfolio and a professional camera. Neither have been found so I'm wondering if maybe she wasn't offered a ride either there or back to her dorm. Portfolios are fairly large aren't they? Thanks for joining.

Yea the portfolios are pretty big, probably like 4 foot long and 2 foot wide. I see them all the time when I'm walking to class. They look pretty cumbersome to carry and she's only like 5'6 so it could have given her some difficulty.

If she was taken though...the area is right by Annie Glidden which connects to I-88 in like 2 minutes. I-88 a major toll road in the area if anyone didn't know.

Oh yea and I forgot to mention that last may someone tried abducting a girl from a NIU parking lot on Annie Glidden last April or May. He used the old can you help me put something in my car but they girl said no and he tried grabbing her but she was able to get away. I don't think the guy was area caught but the description was of a younger white around the ages of 20-27 or something. We still have the notice up in building I have classes, I'll see if I can find it.

I'm familiar with I88 and have taken it out to DeKalb, not recently though. I live in a suburb of Chicago.

Would Antinette really have walked with such a large portfolio? Or do you think she had a ride? Or someone offered her a lift there or back? Are the searches going on today? TIA

Smith said his department has been investigating leads from people who believe they've seen Keller or someone matching her description, but so far none have panned out. In addition to family and friends, they spoke with a former boyfriend who does not attend Northern but "found no evidence of any animosity," Smith said.

Student Affairs & Enrollment Management will host a meeting at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 19, with students to discuss how they can assist with the search for Antinette “Toni” Keller.

Seems the university is getting involved now.

I'm mystified as to why Antinette is receiving so little air time on Chicago local news. A 30sec spot recruiting students to hand out fliers, that's all I saw. She has been missing since last Thursday, noon. Unless LE believes her to be alive they should have cadaver dogs out by now. MOO mho

Antinette recently graduated from high school in June of this year and went missing from Northern U. in DeKalb. Sure hope there's more on this beautiful girl at 10p. moo mho

If she was going for a walk I can understand taking a camera, could see something that would make a really cool photo. But why drag along a large portfolio?

I went back and read the very first post and I wonder now if maybe she had a drawing pad instead of a portfolio? Maybe drawing nature pictures?

Hope she is found safe!

Very little information on this missing coed. She began college this fall after graduating from a Naperville high school. Antinette lives with her family in Plainfield, Illinois. Her parents, brother, grandparents are a wreck and helping LE all they can. Giving pictures etc.

Chicago 10pm news shows Northern students passing out pictures, making buttons etc. They have been asked by campus police not to participate in the search, it is too dangerous?

Been missing since Thursday. Hope Antinette is found safe. all my opinions.

Thank you for the update lucky -

Chicago - On Tuesday, police searching for Antinette “Toni” Keller, a missing 18-year-old NIU student, found her dorm key in the woods.

I have a terrible feeling about all this. Wonder if they found her professional camera or art portfolio. The information about the key was NOT on the 10p news tonight...this family needs media help. More than a 30sec spot at 10p. moo mho

Thanks for the update eyes. Yes, it is very hard to find any info at all about searches. Very disturbing to find her key in the woods.

She last scanned her card through the food court on campus at 11:30 am. Following that she must have gone back to her room as her parents located her art portfolio and her scarf in her room. Her camera was not there, but she always kept it with her. Her room key was found on the path, however, according to her father he was told footprints led into the path and out again. Now whether that is actual footprints or the tracks the dogs picked up I haven't received clarity. Prayers for her safe return.

So sad to hear about this missing student. Pray she is found safely and soon....it's been six days. I think the fact they found her dorm key on the path is not such a good sign.

According to the Northern Star (school newspaper) K-9 units were dispatched from her dorm and didn't follow a trail to the wooded area and the dogs stopped tracking when they got close to I-88. I don't know what that means but as stated earlier from several people her Key was found. The keys are easy to lose though because it's basically just a key that they give you.

Search dogs followed a trail from her room along the path she apparently walked, but lost the scent near Interstate 88, Smith said. Neptune North is on Lucinda Avenue. Smith said he would double check to confirm where the dogs lost the scent, but believed it was by First Street and Fairview Drive.

I have told every young person I know -- particularly highschool and college age -- never to walk alone in the woods -- never leave a bar alone at night -- don't leave parties drunk at 2:00AM -- the kids feel that nothing will ever happen -- and isn't it tragic that a person can't take a walk alone on a path, without fearing something awful will happen.......I'm deeply concerned for her and have been since I learned about this....the dogs will trace her scent....or, I guess they already have...

why, oh why.....

Hi everyone,

I'm currently a grad student at NIU, I also work at NIU, and I live in DeKalb, reallllly close to the wooded area in question.

Everyone in the DeKalb/NIU community is VERY concerned about Antinette.

The wooded area in question is home to a jogging path, one that I personally visit all the time. If she did indeed venture back in that area, there are lots of little bench areas where a person could easily sit and sketch. However, it is also somewhat isolated -- It's technically not *far* from anything, it's just very obscured by trees. I admit I get kind of uneasy on a certain portion of the path where the trees are very dense and it's difficult to see if anyone else is around.

The authorities have been somewhat tight-lipped about everything so far, and a lot of people in our community seem angry that more isn't being done.

If I get any updates myself, I will definitely pass them along here.

I'm so glad this case is up here on Websleuths; we are all so scared of what might have happened to this young woman...
