Sicko. I'm so sad that this loser was the last person to see Toni's beautiful smile.

To use the word 'and' makes it sound like someone could die twice.
I wonder how they can be certain what caused her death, not that the public really needs to know the gritty details. So sad it all had to end this way for her, but let's hope she was deceased when this guy cremated her in the park.:furious:

Just a thought:
Maybe its that he raped her and stabbed her during the event (just an example). The stabbing was enough that she would have died from the wounds/blood loss....but she wasn't deceased YET.....when he started the fire and burned her.
Both WOULD absolutely have killed her, but they don't know which one she specifically died from.

Was this posted? http://www.whbf.com/Global/story.asp?S=13414585

Charged with FIVE COUNTS of 1st Degree Murder. I need a lawyer....I don't understand why he would get 5 murder counts with only one person....not that I'm complaining. 5 million dollar bail, so he isn't going anywhere, thankfully!!
The complete lack of clarification about these charges makes me very uneasy about an already horrible rape and murder.

William "Billy" Curl was charged today with 5 counts of murder, 1 count of sexual assault and one count of arson...

Ok...here is the literal reader again... and now I am pondering the reason LE can charge him with 5 counts of murder and one count of sexual assault and one count of arson...in the past when I heard 5 counts of murder there were 5 victims.

Can someone explain this? Thanks in advance!

Hi. :) I don't know the facts of the case, but my initial impression is: (1) "five counts" of murder is an error by the reporter perhaps (??)--no way you can be charged with murdering one victim more than once, (2) "during" language just means all the crimes were committed during the course of one criminal event--so there was arson and murder and sexual assault somewhere between the start time of this event and the stop time of this event, but not necessarily all at the exact same time.

(BBM)

William Curl, of the 500 block of Taylor Street in DeKalb, has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder, criminal sexual assault and arson, said DeKalb County State's Attorney John Farrell.
Two of the first degree murder charges potentially qualify Curl for the death penalty.
So, the 2 of the first degree murder charges that qualify for the DP must be, "1. caused the death of the victim during the course of committing a criminal sexual assault and 2. caused the death of the victim during the course of an arson,"
I don't understand the 5 counts of first degree murder against one victim either. Illinois must have different laws where each count is a separated by the act of crime committed rather than the the number of victims. ???

Missed all of the live information last night....need an update.
Does anyone know if/when a press conference is being held today --isn't Curl going to court this morning?
Has he confessed?
Did they identify the remains as Toni?

I read the 5 counts as he is responsible for more than 1 killing.

Typing some of these things makes me feel gross.

The whole time when I was reading through all the posts since last night I was wondering when someone was going to mention the five (5) counts of first degree murder.

I was trying to find a video of the presser last night to verify that authorities actually said five (5) counts of first degree murder and not that he had been charged with five (5) counts in this one case.

One (1) count of first degree murder, one (1) count of criminal sexual assault and one (1) count of arson, one (1) count of obstruction of justice and one (1) count of unlawful possession of a motor vehicle.

If he was in fact charged with five (5) counts of first degree murder who are the other victims?

The 5 counts of murder are not "victims" but acts of crime during the murder. One is arson during the murder, the other is sexual assault during the murder...both of these "counts" could result in the Death Penalty.
This is how Illinois law works...here is another example, the Riley Fox murder.

"38-year-old Scott Wayne Eby is charged with five counts of first degree murder in connection with the 2004 killing"

:Welcome-12-june: to WS, pommom5!

I watched the presser tonite & that's what I heard Farrell saying.."during" - it's like my brain just stopped processesing for a few seconds after that because it got stuck on what you're thinking -- Toni died a horrible, horrible death.
Yeah, just what I was hoping NOT to hear. Right now I am pretty much without words........ at least acceptable under WS terms.

The media reporting that the POI had called in the tip on a fire sure throw me and a I think a lot of others in our speculation that Antinette knew her killer.

If I hadn't heard that information I would not have speculated that Antinette knew her killer because he cared enough about her to call authorities or that maybe he left behind her personal items so she would be found.

Now knowing that Billy Boy was very familiar with the park I can see how he might of knew he could start a fire to burn her body and no one would think much about it.

Also now knowing that Antinette didn't know her killer I can now look back and think someone that knew Antinette would most likely not have been able to commit such a horrific crime against her.

I am glad that I at least had some of my speculation correct in that he was called in for questioning but didn't show up and that he had skipped town towards the south perhaps to Mexico. It will be interesting to see how authorities tracked him to Louisiana. If authorities had an arrest warrant out for him, when he crossed back into the USA from Mexico his name should have came up if it was ran and they would have nabbed him there I would think. And to know where he was staying I would think it was phone records.

Curl's neighbor Tierra Bradshaw, 26, said she was surprised to hear that authorities were accusing him of killing Keller.

"It was really shocking," said Bradshaw, who lived down the hall from Curl for about three years at Golden Years Plaza in DeKalb.

"He was a really sweet guy," she said. "Anytime we needed anything, he would help out."

There is always somebody who knows a murderer as a sweet, caring person. I wish I could find out of this guy has a criminal history of any sorts. They said LE has had contacts with him in the past. Not sure what contacts means, just called in for interviews and questioning maybe.

"Feithen would not give any details about the evidence in the case. He said police have a history of contacts with Curl but he would not be specific as to what those police contacts involved."

William P. Curl, of the 500 block of East Taylor Street, allegedly "caused the death of the victim during the course of committing a criminal sexual assault and during the course of an arson," said State's Attorney John Farrell at a news conference Friday night. Authorities would not get more specific than that about how Keller died.

"caused the death of the victim during the course of committing a criminal sexual assault and during the course of an arson," LE doesn't want to say how she died...but that is was DURING sexual assault AND ARSON?!?

I am a literal reader...and this tells me she was not dead when he started the fire....

I doubt they have a cause of death if they haven't been able to ID the victim...I think the only way they're going to get a cause of death is if he confesses (and we haven't heard that)....Not a lawyer, but my guess is the "during" really means "in conjunction with".

And for folks asking about the 5 counts, that's how folks are charged in IL...I doubt he'll head to trial with as many counts as he started with....These tend to get dropped as time goes on.

JMHO--
I simply can not fathom that this could be his first victim.
(Some graphic content here, so please skip this post if this is disturbing to you)-

The amount of detail to this crime says plainly to me that he had fantasized about doing this for a long time. IMO, this is not his first time sexually assaulting someone and encountering and manipulating a dead body. I believe that he very likely has raped other women in the past. With the amount of time he spent with her body in order to burn it, I just do not believe that he hasn't fantasized and experimented with this before. Perhaps there are some neighborhood animals missing. :( I believe LE may find an extensive history on his computer of looking up violent images and websites. I do not believe a rapist who does not intend to kill the victim, can suddenly, after the death, come up with such an elaborate plan to dispose of the body. And, as others have mentioned, burning a body does take some doing- accelerant, time, etc. And most definitely, some experimentation with starting fires.

Yes, this was a crime of "opportunity", but, to me, that says that he didn't stalk Toni specifically before killing her- but likely still targeted her for some reason- some characteristic about her (a la Ted Bundy). I think he probably spent a lot of time "trolling" for an "opportunity". He didn't/couldn't lure a victim outright because he doesn't fit in with them socially, so he waited to find someone alone and vulnerable.

The fact that the neighbor says he's so nice simply indicates more strongly to me that he is a sociopath.
