Curl was found guilty in April of 2004 for possessing drug paraphernalia and given a conditional discharge. In August of that year, he was found guilty of retail theft, and in 1999 he was found guilty of transporting liquor.

He also was arrested for a 2004 domestic battery, a 1999 aggravated battery and a 1999 retail theft charge. But charges in those incidents were later dismissed.

The video listed above, http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?sec...cal&id=7757804, shows Curl's sister making the statement about believing he's innocent. She is not identified by name.
I don't know why the prosecutor refuses to say whether or not there was a confession. That bothers me. Given that I still have a student attending N.I.U., for the sake of my own child and others, I can only hope and pray that LE has the right guy locked up.

I just saw this news video as well of the sister claiming that Curl is innocent. I wonder if there is more to Curl's quick trip to Mexico???? Maybe he dropped someone or something off there?

Ugh....how scary! I'm sure all of the parents and students are both devastated and scared to death! I truly hope that LE has the right guy. Based on everything they have said, they've sounded very confident ever since his arrest.

Can anyone explain this:

How is it that LE could tell Toni was sexually assaulted ---because they charged Curl with Sexual Assault---but could not identify the body as Toni's because of her being burned so severely???

It could very well be that he told them.
It could also be that her clothing (found at the scene) had DNA on it. It could be that the clothing taken off of her body suggests sexual assualt--both that it was removed AND the manner in which it was removed. Was it casually taken off and folded or were buttons ripped, stitches broken, etc?? If his objective was to just murder her he would have no need to take her clothing off.

I'm thinking that he confessed when taken into custody in La. I think NOW they are going to claim that the confession was coerced....that he isn't mentally healthy enough to make a statement....etc. Just my opinion, but I think that the 'he's innocent' claims are a sister who doesn't want to believe her brother did something so awful.

BBM

In the article linked below it says more or less the camera along with cell phone and clothing were damaged by fire. I don't think LE would have been able to retrieve any information for the camera.

Something else in the article I found very interesting is the bond set for unlawful use of a loaded weapon. Does this mean that Billy used a gun in the crime or he was just in possession of the gun when he shouldn't have been? The "use" part is what gets me. I see in the Illinois gun statute that you cannot have a loaded gun in a public park or a public housing facility to name a few, but that doesn't translate to "use". Link to Illinois Gun Statute

Could it mean LE found a shell casing and figured that is how Toni was killed or did Billy tell LE that he used a gun to get Toni to do what he wanted? Does anyone have any more information of this weapons charge?

I still think Billy confessed to LE for them to know everything they do about this if there could be no autopsy. It would be so interesting to see what LE found in the park as far as evidence.

*****Waiting patiently for some court documents to be posted showing evidence found****

This is the first I've heard of the gun charge. That wasn't listed prior as far as I know. There seems to be more evidence then and that's one big hint. :waitasec:

Joe Friday, do you know if they post court docs. in Illinois? I follow Caylee's case and know about the Sunshine Law in Florida but that's very unusual is it not? What do other states reveal, how and when I wonder?

Joe Friday, do you have a link regarding the gun charges?

*this post is of a graphic nature"

I keep wondering how he burned the body so badly that they couldn't identify whether or not it was human, without forensic testing. How does that happen in the time period from noon on Thursday to Saturday when they found the remains? Does that mean that he had to stay on site for several hours to stoke the fire? Even with an accelerant - would it burn so completely if it was left untended? Any thoughts on how that would happen?

the dekalb newspaper goes into a little more detail on what his sister said this morning.

http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2010/10/31/family-of-william-curl-says-he-is-innocent/aru8cmu/

She says he ran to mexico because he felt threatened and afraid after his initial interview with LE.

I just read that too as the article is posted on the previous page where I accessed it from. The article mentions WPC's sister, Moira. Therefore, she is his sister and not his wife like I speculated she may be earlier. And, like justme1962 says, she is speaking out on behalf of her brother's innocence. I had been wondering if anyone was going to do that.

Thanks for reposting the recent article justme.

Of course his sister would not want to believe this about her brother. Yet, imo, we have to be careful to keep somewhat of an open mind until we know all the facts. There have been and are people who have been falsely accused within our system. Too me, that is a horrible crime as well. I'm waiting to hear more facts. So far the evidence that's been made public is purely circumstantial. LE may have a lot more evidence that caused then to arrest WPC.

One of my in-laws is a lawyer/former Asst. State's Attorney in IL. From what he's said on other cases, an insanity plea will be difficult to use as a defense, because a suspect who tries to evade LE has enough sense to know that what they did was wrong, which is why they're trying to run away.

Right now the public defender is staring down five counts of murder (with two of those worthy of the death penalty) on a suspect that fled the country following an initial interview with LE. I'm not sure if she's met with him yet or not, but she either needs his full cooperation or a pysch eval or both depending on how much of the evidence she is currently aware of.

Questions...

Does anybody know the exact dates of when Curl was first interviewed by LE and when he fled to Mexico? Also, when he came back to Louisiana and taken into custody?

Oh, I wasn't saying that they had any involvement in the crime... I was just saying that his relationship to them may give insight into his personality or possible violent past.

I won't mention anything related to them again though.

watchful, regarding discussing family members - me too. I felt we were just trying to understand the lay of the land so to speak - not trying to drag anyone else into the crime. Besides, I've seen no proof that WPC even has a son other than some neighbor mentioning it in a news article. We all know reporters are known to get things wrong too. So far, we're just trying to understand a little about this guy and what kind of life he was living. Now we have confirmation that Moira is his sister as she has spoken publically on his behalf. We can add that to the facts list. Otherwise it's all speculation.

Heck, if we knew all the facts while sleuthing, we'd be God!

Regarding your second post, I've wondered about that too. Because other than desiring to torture your victim, I thought the reason to burn something (I can hardly say 'a person') is to get rid of the evidence.

This isn't very important, but Curl is WPC not WBC.

I'd like to know when the first interview took place too, but haven't seen that information given anywhere.

In the 10/29 press conference, Chief Feithen said that he wasn't sure when the first interview was - he didn't have that info in front of him. In the video of press conference, at around the 14:34 mark - a reporter asks him when Curl left the state and he says something like: i believe it might have been monday...but that might not be accurate.

He was arrested on the 26th. US Marshall's assisted in the arrest. Is that typical?

True. I hesitated to use WBC after I realized I had been doing it because they call him William 'Billy' Curl. I agree that officially, legally, it could be confusing because he is William P. 'Billy' Curl.

Should it be WC, BC, WPC or WPBC? What do you think? Probably WPC. I think it's too late for me to change most of my posts. Tell me what you think going forward. Thanks.
