Thank you for the update. I wasn't expecting her to have been under the influence.

If you followed the case closely, especially the Univision interviews with the father, it seems like some and/or most of the family may not have been aware of this kind of behavior from the young woman (may she rest in peace) - or atleast spoke very strongly against the possibility of her having been driving under the influence. <modsnip: not victim friendly>

Regardless, I write all this because I feel for the father. I am about the age of Brissas older sister, and I know how high school kids acted when I grew up and how they are now. Yes they might be successful, responsible, and cautious on the surface - but <modsnip> without a care for their own safety. Her father in interviews said he was strict with his kids, but for some kids that just means they get good at keeping up with their appearance. <modsnip> I’m not criticizing Brissa or her family, my heart truly hurts for them. <modsnip>

Get to know your kids, truly know them where they are comfortable with sharing everything with you out of love. I hope Brissas family will continue to heal and the light she brought to the world will continue to shine.

Definitely surprising...if this had been after the party, it would have been my first inclination. But not before. Especially with the video of her in the fast food place about 15 minutes prior. I don't recall any discussion of her possibly being impaired in the video footage, but I don't think much of it was released to the public either. Obviously it would have been speculation, but does make one wonder what happened in those 15 minutes.

I agree, she was 17 yo. why would any of us have suspected that? Legal drinking age in the U.S. is 21 yo.

To me, the most logical explanation is dark roads and water.
She is 5'0" and weighs about 115 pounds. BA of .16 is VERY intoxicated for a very small, young female. I am quite heaver and older and a more experienced drinker. That BA reading would put me at too drunk too even think about driving.
Unfortunately, binge drinking is not uncommon with teenagers and young adults.

She also had TCH in her system. Unfortunately, young people and even older people are not too knowledgeable about the danger of combining the two as using cannabis and alcohol together enhances the effects of each, causing increased side effects (slowed reaction time, loss of coordination and problem-solving skills, impaired decision-making skills, and distorted perception and peripheral vision (which can make driving particularly hazardous).
