~snip~

Joe Genis, owner of Athenian Foods Catering, said he called police after discovering the body while taking trash out to the alley behind the business. He said the body was that of a fully clothed white man, and was inside a black city-owned garbage can.

A medical examiner's office spokesman said the garbage can with the body inside will be taken to the county morgue. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

~snip~

Genis went into the alley to investigate and said he saw the body of what he believes is a white man in the black, residential garbage container. He then called police. He said he noticed the container "just like they have outside houses" when he arrived at work at 6 a.m.

"I paid no mind to it," he said. "I figured someone dropped it off there."

The residential container wasn't there when he left work Thursday night, he said. The food distribution business uses two Dumpsters.

It changes things considerably that he was not in the dumpster, but a regular residential trash can.

You know, I'm sure we had some kind of discussion during the blue barrel discussion about how the barrel could just be deposited with others like it and who would know? This is just along the same line just with a trash can. I was heartened to see that they were to take the entire can to the ME's office. That's the way its supposed to be done.

Residential square garbage container.
Yep we have a thread I believe about the blue ones...square and round.
That area, where the body was dropped off, is a nice one.

A female body found in a garbage can behind a Northwest Side catering business Feb. 1 has been identified.

Danuta Gatwood, 55, of 4806 W. Fletcher St., was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:21 p.m. Feb 1, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

The manner of Gatwood's death was not known and an autopsy performed Feb. 2 was pending police investigation.

Did they ever catch the guy who was going around burning his victims and leaving them in dumpsters? I think it was in Ill or around those states. Granted this one was in a residential trash bin..

Will we ever know what happened to Danuta?

There's a photo of Danuta in this article if anyone with a Newspapers account wants to clip it.

I can't access the clipping by clicking on the link. Do I have to do something else before it works?
Hold on. Someone had mentioned previously I was saving the page (incorrectly) and not the actual article. Let me find it for you.

I’m trying to re-save the link to just show the article. Having issues though.

Face and name covered because she's merely a vendor at the farmer's market. Danuta is in the fur.
I think this is a random "filler" image in the metro section. No article attached to it.
