Identified! IL - Chicago, Body found off North Ave Beach, Jul'08

An unidentified person's body was found in Lake Michigan off North Avenue Beach Wednesday afternoon, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The body was discovered in the water about 2:30 p.m., said Richard Rosado, a Fire Department spokesman. He did not know how far off the shore the body was found.

A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the fatality and said they were working to identify the woman Wednesday evening.

An autopsy is slated for Thursday.

Police Marine Unit Officer Kevin Kelly said the Caucasian woman was not clothed when she was found and she appeared to be recently deceased. She had no visible signs of trauma.

The woman’s family reported her missing a couple of days ago and she may have suffered from a mental disability. The woman's family may release a statement later Thursday to release her name, authorities said.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
