What would cause a furnace to blow up?
Was it a gas or electric furnace - if gas, just a flame could blow it up IMO - they must have evidence from the fire investigation proving the arson charge else why treat it as murder? It would be a terrible accident IMO.

Possible. It wouldn't surprise me that the BPD could be attributed to a dysfunctional family.

It is. Imagine in a dysfunctional family an abusive parent asks "Who ate the chocolate?", no one would acknowledge or accept responsibility, knowing that if he did, the child would be hit. Growing up in a dysfunctional family, turns kids into sociopaths.

That isn't always true. Some people would take the hit and move on. When an adult loses control on a kid they might be dangerous but they aren't in control.

No offense. But you probably don't understand what growing up in a household with mentally ill, drug addicted people are like. It is absolute survival. No matter what. Children learn how to lie, as easily as telling the truth. Lying becomes survival.

The problem is that in the "real" world, that maladaptive behavior is diagnosed as a "pathological disorder" that needs treatment. It is not recognized as a defense mechanism.

Who knows? Was this child setting a fire in retaliation for being abused? Was this really a reaction for self defense, in his mind? We don't know.

Is it cold enough there to have a furnace on already?

Trailers use propane gas usually for everything. Heat, cooking, water heater. Probably set the fire close to the gas intake by the trailer. Woosh.

Agree- Good post.
I used to have a family that lived near me who
had two adopted children, girl and boy.
The young boy would get whipped/beaten whenever the father was around. We heard his
screams all the time. The boy started huffing
from aerosol cans in the woods nearby and
then he started setting fires. I spoke to another neighbor who lived closer to the family and
suggested we notify authorities of possible
abuse. She wouldn't get involved because she
was afraid of the father. She said she had to live there and didn't want retaliation.
I called the authorities but it was anonymously
so I never heard if anything was done.
I always thought the boy's acting out was due
to the abuse he received at home.

I don't think I believe that kids start "acting out" for no reason. Usually, there's something there. It can be an abusive situation at home, it can be parents getting divorced, it can because a loved one passed away, it can be because some kids at school are being mean. I just can't believe kids start "acting out" just for fun, at least not most of them do. It's usually something messing with them, kids need guidance and people who ask questions. "How was school today?", "so how come you don't play with X, Y and Z anymore?", "was lunch good today?", "tons of homework? do you want me to take a look at it?", "any fun projects?", "how's the football/soccer/baseball team looking this year?" questions like these usually go a long way with some kids.

I agree the family was disfunctional at best, but I also believe some people are just born bad. It's been shown babies born drug addicted many times have a much lower emotional empathy skillset. Nature vs nurture theory too.

Children usually don't start maladaptive behavior because they live in wonderful, supportive environments with parents out of "Family Ties".

How didn't that mother have some burns on herself from trying to grab the toddlers and bolt for the door ?
At least from the time the explosion occurred until she ran out of the house ?
Something about this tragedy doesn't sit right.
ITA the mom's story is a bit fishy... Why was the mother about to take a bath with her 2 yo niece at 11PM? She smelled something funny, the smoke alarm goes off, but she stops to get dressed? Her fiance saves her first, not the babies - and no injuries on her after being exploded out of the house and needing to be saved?

On some mobile homes the access to the HVAC is outside, like in an exterior closet. I wonder if this one was like that and if 9 yo was outside...

I would have thought the mother would have some scrapes or bruises.
She wears blouses that are short-sleeved, i.e. revealing her shoulders and arms.
Watched some videos and looked at photos on msm.
Nothing.

Then there was that "BOOM" she described , knocking her out. Then stepdad ushered her out of the trailer.
And the bath time at 11pm is a bit unusual.
So many questions.
I still wonder what the evidence was to charge the nine yr. old with murder in the first degree ?

There is a video of his stepdad hitting a baby. How would Kyle manage to not get burnt? Accelerants can burn adults that are setting things on fire. Could he make a furnace explode? And be sure of his safety?

If you put the volume up on the video, you hear Kyle say to his mom "Tell him not to do that again. I'm videoing this and I'm going to post it online."

IMO the video is chilling. The little girl is laying on the floor doing nothing and he grabs her and slaps her hard twice, watching her as she cries. Just watching her, no emotion. Then he apparently grabs the other baby and the video ends. If that's what he does in front of his wife while his step son is recording a video, what does he do in private?

On Facebook his profile says he has a girlfriend and two kids. Not three kids, not two kids and a great step son, but two kids. It also says he was a stay-at-home dad. So no job, just home with these babies he slaps unprovoked all day.

Such a sad loss. Did that man really walk back into a building on fire?

You wouldn't know what I experienced but saying kids that are abused become sociopaths is a broad term that covers a lot of kids. It's not accurate and it would define them too early in life. Surviving doesn't make someone a sociopath.

No. Very true. I don't know your experiences, or this child or his family.

But I do know, that normal kids don't start fires at 11PM.

Kyle went to school, right? Doyouknow if this happened on a weekend or weekday?

New article, mom says the kid was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia, ADHD and bipolar disorder, and showed interest in fire and lighters. Can schizophrenia and BPD actually be diagnosed as young as 9? (I think he was actually 8 when the fire occurred)

Boy, 9, charged with murder in deadly fire is named and pictured | Daily Mail Online
I think diagnosis of schizophrenia in a child that young is pretty controversial. By the way all of those conditions in one kid?
