It strikes me as unusual that an unspecified member of the Zion PD would place what sounds like an “off the record” call about this case to his own personal acquaintance, a woman who identifies herself as a “family friend” (NOT a family member/relative) of the missing man. It also surprises me to hear that said police officer would make this seemingly-important request (that civilians pause their unofficial search efforts) to an individual rather than making the request publicly, to the community at large (as we’ve seen law enforcement do in other missing persons cases). Maybe this whole exchange is 100% aboveboard, and my skepticism is misplaced, but the quote did make me wonder if anyone in the missing man’s life would have a nefarious reason to want the search efforts curtailed...

An agonized mom pleaded Thursday night at a vigil for her son to come home.

"I figured he might see the thousand messages I put there for him," Andrea Holmes said of her missing son. "Mommy misses you. Mommy needs you. Please come home."

At a beachfront vigil in Zion Thursday night, family, friends and even strangers gathered for 28-year-old Corey Reinhardt.

"I went everywhere today, everywhere for my baby and I can't find him," Holmes said.

Cory is missing and he called police but ended the call before connecting. Police traced it to an apartment where blood was found.
They better have the apartment owner being interrogated hard

I'm thinking that the amount of blood found in the apartment and the splatter patterns would be indicative of a homicide making a search unnecessary and likely to compromise any evidence in the immediate area. Not what I would wish to believe but IMO, likely.

Looks like he had a breakup in the last few months and it is possible he has kids with one or more of his exes. He has a lot of people that love and miss him and his poor mom is out of her mind.

Monday, March 18 Police appeal to public for help

Police traced the 911 call and went to an apartment in the 2100 block of Gabriel Avenue (which is near his home) to investigate. There, they found human blood on the door, walls and floor, WGN-TV reports

Friday, March 18/22 An apartment in that building has now been taped off with crime scene tape and official designated a crime scene, police said. His family said ... human blood found in the apartment has been sent to a crime lab for testing to identify who it belongs to.

Zion police Thursday laid down markers at the apartment building and took molds of tire tracks in the mud nearby.

Drove passed the apartment yesterday and today. The front of the building on one side is taped off with caution tape. There is some caution tape on the upper floor balcony as well (can’t recall if that’s a two or three story building. There is one police cruiser parked outside. Yesterday it was in front of the building and today it’s a half block north across a busy street. Very strange. Thought yesterday they may have received the DNA results and taped it off waiting for a search warrant. But with it still like that today, I can’t figure it out. They are not keeping people out of the parking lot or away from anything that isn’t taped. Crazy

Blood on the walls is NOT a good sign. Bloodstains are classified into three basic types: passive stains, transfer stains and projected or impact stains. Passive stains include drops, flows and pools, and typically result from gravity acting on an injured body. Transfer stains result from objects coming into contact with existing bloodstains and leaving wipes, swipes or pattern transfers behind (ie: a bloody shoe print or a smear from a body being dragged). Impact stains (such as spatter on walls) result from blood projecting through the air and are usually seen as spatter, but may also include gushes, splashes and arterial spurts. I'm sure LE has already analyzed it but if the blood on the wall included an arterial spurt, whoever shed the blood is likely not alive.

Lake County Major Crime Task Force called in to assist on case of missing Zion man

Christopher Covelli, a spokesman for the Major Crimes Task Force, said the force was asked to assist in the search for Rhinehart, but that the Zion Police Department is the lead agency and will handle any public release of information.

Covelli did confirm the task force is usually called out for serious cases such as homicides, inmate deaths, officer-involved shootings and “heinous crimes.”

On Friday afternoon Andrea Holmes, Rhinehart’s mother, talked briefly.

The family had scheduled a search party with the public for Thursday evening; however, due to new developments, police asked the family to cancel it because they were worried it may interfere with their investigation.
