I don't even know how to process this and hate overthinking it, but could the very cold shower have caused his internal organs to be frozen? If not, and he died of hypothermia, he had to have been put in a freezer alive.....no, just can't be true...I had to look it up and the best I can tell, you can die from hypothermia/freezing in a cold shower but most people's instincts would be to fight it and get out. However, if someone is holding you there.....just awful to think about.

Without checking the weather for the nights in question, I can tell you as a former Hoosier that December nights in northern Indiana are cold enough to freeze livestock watering tanks and would likely have the same result on the remains of small children.

The remains were likely in the trunk of the car on the trip from Chicago to Gary, imho.

CHICAGO (TCD) -- A mother and two of her children are accused of killing her 6-year-old son on his birthday and then reporting him missing.

The North Chicago Police Department posted about Damari Perry’s disappearance Jan. 6, saying the little boy was last seen in Skokie on Jan. 4. On Saturday, Jan. 8, North Chicago Police announced officers from their department and the FBI located Damari’s body near abandoned houses in the 700 block of Van Buren Street in Gary, Ind. North Chicago Police said the Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct the autopsy.

According to North Chicago Police, three adult family members were arrested and the juvenile members of the family were placed into DCFS custody.

Rinehart reportedly believes the family kept Damari’s body either inside a car or the home for a few days. According to WGN, Rinehart said this is "one of the worst cases I’ve ever seen."

Family initially told police Damari went missing after going to a party with his sister in Skokie, Ill., CBS Chicago reports. Rinehart, however, reportedly says that statement is "completely false."

The suspects could face additional charges following the autopsy, which is scheduled for Jan. 10.

What? I’m glad I just ran across this case. Reading about this for the last six days would have probably put me over. These people are violent, senseless, revolting sick f*s!! I can feel myself holding in groans, like a guttural feeling stuck in my chest. I don’t know what to do with this feeling. It kinda hurts. Where can I put it? I wanna scream profanities. To them. Illinois Department of Children and Family Services records show Damari, of North Chicago, was born into the Illinois foster care system. This is because his mother, Jannie Perry, had lost custody of her five other children in 2014 following a DCFS domestic violence investigation.

Damari was taken into the state’s care at birth in 2015. But two years later in 2017, the court ordered Damari and all his siblings to go back into their mother’s care.

Records show DCFS launched two investigations into the Perry family before the boy’s death. Last year, the system opened an abuse and neglect investigation, where DCFS looked into whether Damari’s mother wrote a threatening message to harm him.

At that point, DCFS concluded the threat was “unfounded.”

Then on Dec. 29, prosecutors said someone was mad at the child and put him in a cold shower as a punishment. The bone-chilling water was cut off only after Damari vomited before becoming unresponsive.

Despite several family members in the house, no one called for help – and Damari died. It is not clear how long he suffered that day.

The mother, Damari’s brother Jeremiah, and the third juvenile brother are accused of helping dump the boy’s body in Gary – then lying to police about how he disappeared at a party in Skokie.

Damari’s mother now has seven children ranging in age from 4 to 20. The younger kids are likely back in the state’s care as she sits in jail.

Would they have changed it if the Judge was hearing Jeremiah’s case also?

I don't know about criminal cases but in civil suits it is not that uncommon to request another judge and you can do so without giving a specific cause. I can think of a couple of cases where my firm has done that in the past few years. Sometimes an attorney doesn't get on well or has history with a judge. Sometimes they don't think their odds are as good with one judge as another. It will be interesting to see if we (public) are ever given a reason or if we will never know what prompted the request.

Sweet little Damari's short, painful life may actually help some of his surviving siblings. At least they won't be around their "mother" if she is found guilty, and perhaps his older siblings will see the horror that cruelty to little children can do -- and the punishment for it if caught, tried and convicted.
So his little life was not in vain. That's all I can get in this case that may be a plus -- other than, I am hoping, life sentences for his torturers and those who hid him like his sweet body was a bag of trash.

*Preliminary Hearing (@ 1:30pm ET) - IL - Damari L. Perry (6) (was last seen in Skokie with his 16-year-old sister at her friend's home around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, reported missing Jan. 5, 2022, Chicago & found deceased late Friday night Jan. 7, 2022 near an abandoned house in the 700 block of Van Buren St. in Gary; in truth Damari died on Dec. 30, 2021 during a punishment from his “mom”; killed on his 6th birthday) - *Jeremiah R. Perry (20) "brother" arrested (1/7/22) & charged (1/8/22) with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child under 12, concealing a homicidal death & obstructing justice (because of fake “story”). $3M bond set on 1/9/22.
The autopsy found "scattered ecchymosis on the right leg”, extremely cold core temperature & partially frozen internal organs & that there was "postmortem thermal injury/charring" on the Damari's body. His pending cause of death was hypothermia, ruling it a homicide.

1/9/22 Update: Prosecutors say the mother charged with killing Damari Perry “punished” the boy with the help of a sibling & kept him in a cold shower for an extended period before he died at their North Chicago home. Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Kyle Doyle said the family of Damari reported that the boy “did something that the mother felt needed to be punished for” on December 30. That same day, Damari was put into a tub or shower with the cold water on for an “extended period of time,” Doyle said. Damari vomited & became unresponsive. It was determined the boy was deceased but no one in the family called 911, Doyle said. Doyle said that Jannie Perry & Jeremiah Perry discussed how to dispose of the body & ended up taking the body to Indiana. Doyle asked for the court to impose a $3 million bond, while Jeremiah Perry’s attorney, Assistant Public Defender Divina Ayala, asked the court to impose a $20,000 bond. Prosecutors indicated that more charges could be filed as the investigation continues & the autopsy is completed (should be Monday 1/10/22). Jeremiah Perry is on probation for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony, in Cook County. Lake County Circuit Judge Stacey Seneczko ordered Jeremiah Perry to be held in the Lake County Jail on a $3 million bond. She also ordered Jeremiah Perry to have no contact with any of his family members. Seneczko noted during the bond hearing that Jannie Perry, who is in police custody & was also expected to appear in court Sunday morning, was no longer on the docket for the morning bond hearing. Jeremiah: Status for attorney hearing on 1/11/22 @ 9am.
1/11/22 Update: Was appointed a public defender. Next preliminary hearing on 2/1/22.
