Also, my BIL was National Guard, not regular Army. They most likely have different training requirements.

They had dogs out looking for him. I would think that if he were injured, they would likely have found him by now (especially with a blood trail of sorts). I want to believe he is innocent; and this story certainly seems strange. I just honestly do not know what to think.

It seems weird that they have now said that there is only one crime scene; where the truck/body were found. However, how would they know if she had been killed in the bed of the truck elsewhere and driven to that location? There wouldn't be a trail because her body hadn't been moved just the truck.

Were the 3 shots made because he was being threatened? Talk, or I shoot your girlfriend. He didn't talk, and "someone" shot her again and again. If so, what does he know or have that someone else would want??

Just thoughts running through my head. I can't make heads or tails of this.

Wouldn't there be a blood trail up to some point, and a scent trail as well?

Yes I believe there would be

We all have been thinking along the same lines with regards to him being injured; and dogs being able to follow his trail.

Is it possible that he shot and killed her, took off, was upset enough that he ran off the road / down the enbankment. He covered up the truck with branches, and took off from there. I think this is still a big possibility. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt; I really do! I just wish that LE would give a PC and tell the public what to BOLO for. Are there other perps that are a danger to the community? Should they be looking for someone that is acting suspicious or out of character over the last couple of days?

I know

But things are not looking good
If he was injured there should be a scent trail
If he was injured, how far would he get

unless someone took him..but why kill her and take him?

Did he have a cell phone?
Was it in the truck?

Looks like there is a problem with drugs IMO.

Meth is a huge problem here. And meth makes people do crazy things. They may become irrationally paranoid and kill people who come in contact with them. This area does not have a high murder rate, but I can think of two meth-related murders in the past 15 years or so. Yeah, I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but like I said, the murder rate around here is low.

Search is on For Missing White County Man
Story Updated: Aug 28, 2012

Snipped:
"She had a cell phone, but would not answer the phone. So we had a boat in the water from the Department of Conservation, to run the river, to see if we might be able to locate that vehicle," explains White County Sheriff Doug Maier.

By Monday afternoon, law enforcement found a gray Dodge Dakota pick-up truck down a ravine, just a couple miles away from where Evans and Wheeler were camping. The truck was Wheeler's, and in the bed was Evans, dead with at least three gunshot wounds to the head. Wheeler was nowhere to be found.

Snipped:
They're going through the woods, combing through corn fields, and even the river to find either a body or Wheeler alive.

Snipped:
Some things we know about Jacob Wheeler is he's still currently married, but has been amicably separated for roughly a year. Scott says Wheeler is an army veteran, who served in Iraq for three years.

Snipped:
It will take up to three weeks to receive toxicology results.

That river doesn't look clear at all. What were they fishing for? Catfish?

Sure wish they would give an update today. Were they searching again today?

So it flows south?

Snipped:
The Little Wabash River is a 240-mile-long (390*km)[1]tributary of the Wabash River in east-central and southeastern Illinois in the United States. Via the Wabash and Ohio rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River.

Snipped:
The Little Wabash rises in Coles County near Mattoon and flows generally southwardly through Shelby, Effingham, Clay, Richland, Wayne, Edwards and White counties, past the towns of Louisville, Golden Gate, Carmi and New Haven. It enters the Wabash River on the common boundary of White and Gallatin counties, about 4 miles (6*km) southeast of New Haven.

In its upper course in Shelby County, the river is dammed to form Lake Mattoon and collects the short West Branch Little Wabash River, which flows for its entire length in Shelby County. Other tributaries include the Fox River, which joins it in Edwards County; the Elm River, which joins it in Wayne County; and the Skillet Fork, which joins it in White County.

My hubby fishes for catfish at night, so I'm gonna assume that is what they were fishing for :)

Bc of the Mississippi & Ohio flooding issues, NOAA keeps track of weather patterns/paths. If a main body of water to a tributary overflows, and if a body was dumped in said tributary, depending on rain & wind the body could drift into the overflow. Just speculating on path that could be travelled...

What was Jacob last seen wearing?

Yeah, probably catfish. Sometimes people fish for grass carp too, to kill them (they are taking over the rivers here).

That is true, but we are in the middle of the worst drought this century right now. It didn't rain for over two months, and the last time we got any rainfall was at the beginning of August. So none of the rivers are really up right now.

The fact that they are focusing on looking for a body makes me think there was something at the crime scene to indicate that a 3rd party was involved. If they thought Jacob killed her and ran, why would they be looking for a body? Wouldn't they still think he could be on the run?

You're right, when I clicked on that link from NOAA it says the water level is 2.9 feet. That seems more like a stream to me. :) Jkjkjkjkjk.
