Unless it was a kidnapper who preferred males?

Just a thought...

Your post made me think of "Misery" from a Stephen King story. I really liked Kathy Bates in this movie.

OT: LOL. I learned the meaning of grace twice in that place. The first was in my teens going down a carved out rock stairway that I ran down....and don't know to this day how I survived because momentum took over and I should have taken a very bad fall, but for some reason, with an angel under my wings I made it. The whole group I was with couldn't believe it. The second, I was in my early twenties and rock climbing. It was pretty closed in and I turned my head and yep, sure enough there was a snake curled up just looking at me from just inches away. Don't know what kind...didn't care...just got the hello out of there.

Look up The Garden of the Gods and Giant City State Park on You Tube.

wow..... You have some pretty wild memories from that Park.....

and I will look up Garden of the Gods and Giant City State Park!

Actually, this is one of those very frustrating cases where the police have revealed next to no information at all.

LE is not required to release that kind of info. It could be very detrimental to their investigation if they do.

I'm sure by now they know what kind of gun was missing from the Wheeler home. I'm sure by now they know what caliber of gun killed Jessi Evans. I'm sure they can tell if she was shot in the truck or somewhere else. All those questions people have been posting...just because LE isn't confirming these things doesn't mean that they don't know them. Rumors spread like crazy around here, so the less info LE puts out is probably for the better.

Wouldn't ballistics testing at least rule out Wheeler's family gun??

They can't do ballistics testing unless they have the actual gun.

Wouldn't dogs help in this rough terrain?

I'm pretty sure they have been using dogs. They just haven't found anything.

I would be interested if the dogs were able to get a scent trail for Jacob at all. If they tracked him for a while then lost the trail, it could be because he got into a vehicle.

From what I've gathered he was only in the service for 3 years. Stationed at Ft.Hood in 2009 and deployed with his unit to Iraq in 2010 (1 yr tour). It's been said he was then stationed at Ft. Campbell and got out from there in 2011. From the pictures and comments I have seen I believe he was EOD (worked with discharging explosives). The highest rank he could have achieved in 3 years was E-4 (SPC/CPL) unless he came in as an E-3 and somehow made it to E-5 (SGT), which I doubt.

On his FB he says he misses the military...

So it seems he has fond memories of it.

I hope it is okay to share this.

I have'nt heard anything on White County scanner. Not a peep. Has anyone eles?

Nope. Well, just heard something about a minor car accident, but that's it. That isn't surprising though; this is a small rural area with a low population. Not much happens. Also, if people are calling in info directly to the police, it's not going to be broadcast over the scanner.

Yes... I saw that movie.. and I love the parts that Kathy Bates plays in many of her movies!

I am leaning in a different direction than my prior posts... I was thinking more of a Jeffrey Dahmer type predator then.

but now I am leaning towards Jake being on the run...

but that could change with the wind... :dunno:

baseball- Did Jacob go to high school at Carmi? Or NCOE? I'm confused as to where he is actually from.

Jessi went to NCOE. If I'm correct, they did not go to the same high school.

None the less, you knew who he was and who he hung out with. It seems, in most schools, kids tend to break down into groups. When I was a kid we had Jocks, Popular Kids, Nerds, Stoners, and so on. My daughter's generation added Goths and Juggalos and what not.

I did not go to Jacob's high school, but I will take a stab at this. This is a small rural area with small high schools. There are groups, but the schools are small enough that everyone knows everyone, even if they aren't part of the same group.

Just based on the pictures I have seen online and on FB, Jacob looks like a country good-ole'-boy to me. Would that be a correct assumption? I also heard that his family hunts for their own food. Is that correct?

I'm not going to take any guesses as to what his personality is like, because that wouldn't really be fair. Not all country boys act exactly the same way, and I don't want to delve into stereotypes.

Jacob went to Carmi. Jessica went to NCOE. I never knew her at all. My little brother met her once, but that's all. I don't know anything about Jacob's family, but I wouldn't say that they HAD to hunt for their food. lol. Hunting, fishing, and all the outdoor stuff is big in this part of the country because there is so much countryside.
88keys you are right about everybody knows everybody. Jake did not hang out with the jocks, but in school everybody was friends with everybody, so it really didn't matter.
The assumption that Jake is just a good ole country boy is pretty much correct. Obviously, he loves horses, as his Facebook pictures prove. But, there is nothing weird about someone being out in the woods, at different fishing spots all over the country, or anything else in this area. It is just how lots of people are here.

Thank you. And I didn't mean "country boy" as an insult! :) I know exactly the type you mean. Most of them are great people.

I also didn't mean to imply that his family had to hunt for their food. I guess I should have asked if they enjoy hunting. You're right; it's very common around here. It doesn't surprise me at all that they had guns, or that Jake might have taken one with him when he went camping.

Per this article...

Wouldn't ballistics testing at least rule out Wheeler's family gun??

Of course without the exact weapon, results would be inconclusive...

But tests would indicate if the gun used on Jessica was the same type of gun.

and yes, I realize that even if it is the same gun...

there may be no proof yet if it was Jake or someone else who did the shooting.

Just some thoughts...

Yes, and they haven't released that information. Why haven't they is the question...

Waitasec... I thought the inside of a barrel would make certain markings on a bullet as the bullet exits the barrel. They might not be able to match up the bullet to the gun without the actual gun to compare to, but they could check out the bullet to figure out the type of gun it was used in. No?

Gosh, did anybody think of Bo & Luke Duke when they saw some of the pictures of Jake? Notably the one on the horse? He just totally seems like a good ole country boy that can be ornery sometimes but sweet as pie other times. If he's responsible for this, what the heck happened for him to just snap? The service? Separation from his wife? Depression? If its not him, who the heck could it be? Any creeps in the area scoping out unsuspecting camping couples late at night?

Someone made a video. Have to admit it made me sad. His friends are probably very confused as the rest of us. If we that dont know him have a hard time thinking he did this imagine what they are feeling. I hope and pray he didnt do this but fear he did.
