It could be quite possible that the drinking caused the divorce or the divorce caused the increase in drinking....or both

People change a lot from early 20's to mid 30's....hopefully, they grow up and become more responsible

Sadly I believe it was the catalyst for what took place. IMO He was being obnoxious with the women at the bar....wanting attention and got shot down. Maybe he did see lights or a campfire and either was just curious or thought there might be people there partying and he wasn't ready to go home; yet again, not met with a welcome. Unhappy drunks need to be avoided...and one with a weapon is just plain dangerous.

His poor children and x-wife....what they must go through in the future in trying to deal with this. Just heart breaking how many people this has effected. How many little ones in all the families have to learn of more badness/madness in the world. My heart goes out to them all.
imo

From what I know about the military (I work for the NG), you are correct. E-4 is about as high as you can get, non comm, without more schooling.

One could make E-5 after two years. Easily.

...sitting on my hands to be good...

Sad to see the only chatter is about other's pointing out differences in opinions between themselves and others. Have I reached the wrong forum...?
JMVHO
TIA!!

This is just another rumor, but I heard the guy hid Jake's body with a suicide note from Jake making it look like Jake killed her, ran away, killed himself and left a note.

Did that insufferable piece of scum hope he was going to collect the reward????

There's a lot of reasons aside from race, like height, weight, hair color. Couldn't we either list a variety of reasons instead of one?

The question I was responding to was "how could they be SURE it wasn't Jake?" Weight, height, etc.... We know from the Holly Bobo case that these things are iffy. However, a different race generally encompasses a different hair, eye, AND skin color so that is the probability I chose. In my mind, it was as simple as that.... if the man at the door was African American, Indian, Hispanic, or any of the "Children of the World" besides the white guy I'd seen in the picture, the home owner would probably be SURE it wasn't Jake. No politics, no underlying messages or tones. Just a simple "Was it a red car or a blue car, sir?"

Anyone and everyone is and was free to posts their suggestions/reasons, and I posted mine. I saw/see nothing wrong with my reasoning. I prefer my molehills to remain molehills.

Well I'd say you're free to name as many differing reasons as you'd like to come up with.. Imo T4Tide stated Race as one that imo would be a visual difference that could be easily distinguished with certainty and without doubt.. You or anyone can name as many others as can be thought of, but imo ones that you gave as examples such as height, weight well with those there is an entire differing spectrum that can exist an therefor make it just a whole helluva a lot more difficult than coming out and stating something such as race which can be determined immediately, with certainty and not all the in between spectrum that exists with height, weight, etc..

I do not understand the issue that is had with using a differentiating characteristic such as race?.. Is that a problem?.. If not then I do not at all understand the need to have T4TIDE name anything other than race as a differentiating characteristic..??

It is no different then saying I have green eyes and she has Hazel eyes.. It is just quite obviously an easier time in differentiating the color of my skin versus something like the tiny amount of color of my eyes..

Thanks, Smooth.... I didn't even scroll down to see you'd already covered this. There was really no ill will or malicious intent behind my comment.

I started reading this thread sometime this afternoon, which would be Monday, 9-3-12.
This had to have been tense, it reminds me of another case when I was there through the several days. Your working relationship was great, but it must have been really difficult waiting for Jake to be found. If that guy hadn't lost his plate, who knows what would/could have happened, but, thankfully, it didn't happen that way this time.
It was my intention to refrain from comments and I did write several comments out, and then I'd just let them disappear because they weren't relevant to what happened because I knew from the beginning that Jake wasn't found alive because of the title on the thread.
It wasn't relevant what rank he could be, what rank he was, whether he was on leave or discharged. It wasn't necessary to explain how long basic training was, or how his AIT could make a difference in how long he was in training. It doesn't matter that my military training was a certain way or someone else's wasn't. It didn't need to be explained that everyone, the army, the reserve and the national guard all have the same basic training. All that mattered by the time I was reading was that the case was solved and it didn't turn out well for Jessica or Jacob. My impressions were irrelevant, because maybe there would be another time when that information would be necessary, but it wasn't now.
It does matter that courtesy is part of the SOP. TOS, whatever. It matters that intentions aren't to offend. I did want to let you all know that it must not have been easy for those of you that spent the last week working thru this case, and that I sympathize with you. I don't imagine any of you got much sleep the night they announced they had a confession and Jake wasn't all right. I did end up at the end of the thread after I'd gotten as far as the guy was arrested, so I still don't know all the details, but I didn't go thru it the way you all did. I did this in several hours. I don't think there's any one of you I didn't feel bad for, I felt like I got to know some of you as I read thru the thread.
I ended up here because I was checking on something, but once I got started reading what the thread was about, I couldn't leave. I had to know what happened. The whole thing is just so sad. So heartbreaking. One of you has a saying at the end of your posts. Something about seeing some of the worst of humanity and being able to work with some of the best of humanity with the people here. It's a good saying.

What time? I'm assuming there will be no media allowed inside....????

I have a feeling he will eventually make a plea. I can't imagine the feeling he had when he realized how his life was going to change. It's so sad all the way around...no winners in this case. I don't think he was a really bad guy.....just someone that shouldn't have had a gun at that time...and made some terrible decisions when not in the right mind to do so. No tomatoes please....:truce:

WHITE CO.—The 17-year-old girl who was a victim of homicide during a weekend camping and fishing trip was also sexually assaulted, according to information turned up in the investigation.

Jessica Evans was the victim of this alleged crime, this, information reveals, occurring after her boyfriend, Jacob Wheeler, 22, was shot in the head.

Information just filed in the case by White County State’s Attorney T. Scott Webb contains five separate counts of First Degree Murder of both Evans and Wheeler; two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm; one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault; and one count of Concealing a Homicidal Death.

Danny Coston, 36, of Centerville, charged with the crimes, is scheduled to appear in front of the judge in White County this morning at 9:30. We’re here covering the hearing.

Authorities close to the investigation are characterizing the details of the crime as “bizarre” and “frightening.”

We’ll have more information as we can get it to you but for now, this is the preliminary report from court this morning.

So he killed Jacob to get to Jessica, or he killed Jacob for some other reason and then decided to take advantage of the situation. Infuriating and disgusting, either way.

I feel so badly for their families and my thoughts and prayers are with them..

I had a feeling that was the case. :(

I'm so sorry, Jessi.

I was really surprised when they initially said she wasnt sexually assaulted. So terrifying. She probably knew Jacob had been shot. IMO

  • #956
I have a very unsettling feeling that he made Jacob watch the whole thing and killed him last.

What a monster.

  • #957
There should be a probable cause statement released today. Anyone who runs across that, can you post a link here? TIA!

The article said that the assault occurred after Jacob was shot. I don't see how he would have contained Jacob while he was assaulting Jessi. He got rid of the threat, and I don't recall reading where Jacob was bound or restrained. I don't think Jacob would have allowed anything to happen to Jessi if he were alive. IMHO.

It has been bad enough to come in and see that these two young people had been murdered.
But, now I am just sick to think she was assaulted first

I had always hoped she had no idea what was about to happen

Holy ****.

I was hoping it was just a road rage incident, or an argument that got out of control.

The last moments of her life must have been terrifying.
