It's a case like this that makes me wish real life was like TV. Gone. Evidence found. Person found (or something else). Over.

The possibilities are endless where she could be placed. My 16 yr old neighbor vanished 2 years ago - I look around every day wondering if she was placed here or there. We have searched endlessly and continue, but really ... there are so many locations a missing person can be placed and we need the grace of God to lead us to that area (whether thru confession or other means) JMO

Praying Katrina & Ali are located ... :please:

Is there a thread here for your neighbor? Hugs..

It's a sick world. :-(. All of goodness can't even seem to counterbalance the evil.

We had a young girl go missing near our town about 12 years ago. The morning of her disappearance, she was spotted by an early morning truck driver walking along the roadway (in the dark) near her home. When the driver managed to turn around and go back, he couldn't see her. Her parents said she was afraid of the dark and wouldn't be out walking...she even shared a bedroom with her young brother. She has never been found. A few years ago, a construction worker was removing trees and natural debris from a wooded area. There he found the little girl's book bag and some of her belongings. They were double-bagged in large black plastic trash bags.

Her name is Asha Degree...and she has a thread here:

I wonder if LE is doing searches, or telling the groups where to search? Is there any indication that they have any cell data or anything to help them? I am getting the impression this is not the case. Seems like just kind of random searching in the areas near the evidence that was found, which could have nothing to do with where she really is. So frustrating; so many of these cases cannot be solved without a confession and in the case of Susan Powell, now she will probably never be found.

On another note, new search for Stacy Peterson happened today; hopeful it based on new info, but of course they are saying it is not.

Interesting remark on WIFR facebook today concerning clothing Katrina was last seen wearing. Wonder if the description came from cameras while shopping or from TS.

WIFR TV shared Meghan Dwyer, 23 News's photo.

KATRINA SMITH CASE: The family is urging everyone who will be hunting in Rock Cut State park this weekend to keep eyes and ears out for anything unusual. The park is closed to the public for deer and turkey hunting Nov. 8-11.
Today police say Katrina was last seen in black pants and a red top. See Findkatrinasmith for more information on tomorrow's benefit, too.

Meghan Dwyer also commented on the facebook that a woman's jacket had been found today near the dam but no description of the jacket was given. It was turned over to a Sheriff's deputy to take into evidence.

le is directing the searchers in where and how to search... this was in the info that the military (special forces) brother put out in a statement or on the official facebook... and they have the 8 detectives assigned to her case. and i can tell you that just from listening to the scanner day and night that these detectives are very experienced...there is an abundance of crime in the area so i have complete faith in their abilities...jmho

I am not questioning abilities;but to find a missing person requires either luck or information, no matter how skilled.

I have faith in local LE as well as the resources they have. It is my thinking that if any of the items found could have been directly traced to her they would have been all over and had dogs and professional officers out searching. I also wouldn't expect that they would be so casual about having dozens of searchers around to compromise any sent that might be picked up. jmho

10pm news..Nov. 7th

The search for Katrina still continues. Detectives urge people to check their properties and any out buildings for signs of Katrina. They say she was wearing black pants and a red top. The family says police are considering searching the banks of the Rock River with cadaver dogs , but that's not something police will confirm or deny. For more information, please check out the Facebook page, Findkatrinasmith. http://bit.ly/T5tmZb

Not that I have been able to find. Several people have asked who the last person besides Todd was to see her that day and never has there been an answer. If no one has come forward (are we certain that she was at work that day?) then there is no way to prove for certain that she hasn't been missing for much longer.

"Detectives have been able to determine that Ms Smith was shopping Monday night 10-22-12 between 7 P.M. and 8P.M. at Department Stores in the area of N. 2nd St. and 173 in Machesney Park."

I don't remember reading this, and I was just wondering: Does anyone remember or know if there has been a report of first seeing Katrina's abandoned car? When it was first seen/found/noticed and who that person was?

Or any reports/earliest time of others noticing it but not necessarily reporting it?

TIA

iirc, her car was seen throughout the next day by friends and was reported by her husband to the roscoe pd around 7:50pm. there was not a first sighted time reported in msm...

If something god forbid were to ever happen to me and I was missing, I hope that any of my closest friends or relatives join this site! I wish one of Katrina's friends would come here and give us some insight on Katrina as well as the people in her life...

"Katrina Smith’s vehicle was found abandoned at Obispo and Ventura in Machesney Park at approximately 7:50 p.m., Oct. 23. Neighbors reported seeing the vehicle parked at that location earlier in the day, unoccupied."

I am trying to find the other source that had the report from a local resident that rides his or her bike through the area every morning and recalls seeing the vehicle early Tuesday morning, but did not realize it was part of a missing person case until a couple days later when he or she saw it on the news. He or she then reported it to the police and what time it was. I will see if I can find that report and add it to this post.
