IL - Kenneka Jenkins, 19, found dead in hotel freezer, Rosemont, 10 Sept 2017 #2

OMG. I have just tapered off topamax/topiramate after six months of taking it. It is horrible. To note: it is awful combined with alcohol, absolutely exhausting. The combination is not something that I would describe as a 'buzz'. About 20 to 30 minutes after taking it I would become extremely hot... we are talking no blankets in the middle of winter. For example, if I had been reading in bed and then took topamax, 20 minutes later my blankets and clothes would come off in a cold bedroom. Strangely enough, throughout the day it would become difficult to get warm again if I felt cold. It absolutely messes with your thermostat.
It is very much like Epilum in that it is used as a mood stabiliser and/or to prevent seizures. You have to taper on to it when starting out because of the risk of heat rash!
It is also used as a treatment for bullemia. I had it as a mood stabiliser after bad flashbacks from PTSD. It is a real appetite killer. It stops bullemia because you just feel 'sated'.
It makes you emotionally numb. Perhaps it was her mother's? Not a fun drug. At all.
moo

ETA: I even complained to my psychiatrist about feeling nothing when my friend's dog died, ironically. I was willing to have PTSD flashbacks rather than continue with that drug!
They were horrible for me as well. Had bad pins and needles in my feet, also a painful cold sensation at the nape of my neck and in my feet.

The reason I’m asking about the stairs is bc some posters felt it was very important and meant something. Personally, I don’t but I am curious how others feel now that official documents have been released to the public.

A private autopsy was done which found the same things as LEs autopsy, but no mention of toxicology as far as I know. Which is why i wondered on an earlier post why her mom is protesting still and not accepting what her own private investigation concluded.

Thanks, I had not seen the second autopsy.

Great catch, I did not realize that. I could have sworn I saw video in the beginning before all the footage was released of her walking DOWN steps. I also watched a couple of YT videos today that were basically conspiracy theories IMO, but one of them was accusing a man of dragging a bag down the stairs to the kitchen and that it looked like it had a body in it (it was an absurd video and reassured me I did the right thing by not going down the rabbit hole in this case)

Still curious about everyone’s thoughts. Does anything change in anyone’s minds due to what floor she was found on?

I mentioned this before, but I wonder how JK walked up the stairs from the back of the main kitchen (lower level) to the kitchen one floor above? She tried to walk up a staircase earlier in the videos and she lost her grip and almost fell on her butt. She was clearly impaired. How did she manage to get up the staircase in the back of the kitchen area? No escalator back there and I doubt she could use the freight elevator either in her condition. Maybe she crawled up the stairs?

By the time we see her walking through the kitchen she is not swaying nearly as much (though still obviously impaired). Even though her BAC was very high when found, it's possible she was MORE intoxicated in the part of the videos where she is running into the walls and nearly falling down. Do we know how long she wandered the hallways before making it to the kitchen?

Was she drugged by someone at the party?

This doesn't sound like a drug someone would take on purpose? Why would she agree to take a weird drug like that?

Topamax known to be called Dopamax because it literally makes you feel doped out. Very confused, lack of balance, a lot of people use it to loose weight or suppress their appetite but they also use it as a downer. Dopamax can cause severe disorientation and the inability to know your left from right, up or down, etc...esp when mixed with alcohol. The fact that they found this in her system explains a lot to me as I have had several people I know personally react different to it with many of these side effects. It is also very possible she was given this by someone and was told it was a Molly or something else just to make a sale. I rewatched the videos again— and the wobbly walk, inability to figure out her way down the hall is really telling. So tragic. But def an accident. Too much on social media to even read it anymore. I’ve never seen anything like this with people wanting someone to have been murdered. Smh

You bring up 2 good points. Maybe the stairs only had a couple of steps and maybe she sobered up in her long travels through the lower level. I'm not trying to argue or say the authorities are covering up anything. I'm merely pointing out inconsistencies I happen to notice. I guess it's a moot point because we'll never know. There's no pictures or videos shown of the lower level kitchen where she would have "ascended" to the other kitchen above.

Eh idk. There’s a saying “when someone tries to give you drugs... you say thank you bc drugs are expensive”. Meaning why turn down a free pill? Whoever gave it to her could have told her it was going to make her f feel good, and she may not have questioned it. She could have already been drunk and not thinking much of it.

Wonder why JK took some Topomax? If she was just drunk at the party, she'd probably still be alive today. That other stuff was her downfall. What a shame. Very sad.

Topiramate has a reputation as a weight loss drug, perhaps she got some without a prescripton and was trying it out. http://homeremediesforlife.com/topiramate-weight-loss. If family haven't found a supply of drugs, someone gave it to her and haven't admitted it.

I tried Topamax for weight loss 12 years ago. It made my head feel funky in a can't focus or concentrate kind of way. I lost a lot of weight but it takes about 6 weeks before the weight starts coming off. I had to stop taking it due to the side effects.

I think it's possible Kenneka could have had a script her familk didn't know about. She was an adult so unless she gave authorization, hippa would prevent her family from having access.

Sadly, she probably didn't give it a thought that mixing Topamax with alcohol would have a bad reaction. Who really does at 19? Such a heartbreaking tragic accident.

Just looking at mine, which are made in Switzerland, it is a small white pill with TOP written on one side and the strength (a number) on the other. Pretty unexciting.

It's actually HIPAA.

What does looking exciting have to do with it? None of my prescriptions are exciting. Yeah Valium’ used to have the heart cutout like 15 years ago. Other than that, I don’t know what controlled substances look exciting. I never cared what a pill looked like. Why would a drunk 19 year old?

True, just all the talk of Zanny bars in their social media etc (which look distinctive) made me think how generally boring topamax looks.
I didn't know Valium once looked like that - clever marketing!

Are kids abusing this drug? Is it a popular "street drug"?
It's so revolting, I can't imagine abusing it for pleasure. Maybe for hunger suppression?

For hunger and weight loss- yes.
