CHICAGO (WLS) -- Keonte Johnson, 25, has gone missing after being discharged from a Chicago area hospital after a week-long mental health evaluation, his family said.

Johnson's family said he should never have been released at all.

"They just released him. They know he wasn't in his right mind. They know he never been in this area and he don't know how to get home," said Elijah Johnson, father.

The family said their nightmare began last week after they told Keonte, who has special needs and was later diagnosed as schizophrenic, that they were moving from the south suburban home he sometimes shared with a close cousin who recently died.

This is scary, his poor family must be frantic. Where would he go? Does he have any money? I hope that he'll be found safe very soon.

This is horrifying. How do you make that kind of mistake? I really hope he is safe somewhere. Hopefully a Good Samaritan took him in instead of someone with ill intentions.

I know, this is a bad mistake on the hospital's part. Hopefully Keonte will be found safe very soon.

It was only the family that stated he was discharged incorrectly. The hospital has never responded. No telling what really happened but I do know that hospitals have pretty specific guidelines for mental health evaluations of adults. He may have met the criteria for discharge if he is an adult and was not living with or under the legal responsibility of the family members who had the issues with his discharge.
