Bumping this thread. I read somewhere the next court date was tomorrow, 1/22/08. Maybe something new will come out. Even with very little publicity on this case, this family is always in the back of my mind.

me too.....I live in the Chicago area, and was very saddened by what happened to this family....those poor kids never had a chance....

Did he slaughter his whole family for money or did he have a girlfriend somewhere? Have they ever said what the motive was? How can a person raise children from birth...watch them grow and then look them in the face and take their lives? He is a monster with no heart.

That's it, Bobbisangel - no information that has been released points to a motive. There was insurance on the wife, but not an unusual amount. It was like he wanted to erase his entire family life and start over.

Earlier in the thread, a poster conjected that there could be a woman somewhere - apparently, he traveled a bit for business. IMO, there must have been a woman. I just can't imagine a better motive though I am open to possiblities. I mean he eradicated his entire family on the way to a WaterPark and he has no history of mental illness.

If he's a bonafide sociopath, I have a hard time believing this would be the first time he had killed. Something must have made him do it. For the life of me, I don't know what.

This case gets me in the same way the Darlie Routier case gets me - I just don't "get" the motive (and I have a pretty easy time slipping into the shoes of people who murder - which is to say I have a good imagination and a high tolerance for insane behavior) - I'm flummoxed. I wish the trial would be televised - I would record it for sure. I want to hear every piece of evidence and see him in Court.

Sorry, It was in one of the articles I read about the life insurance that said next scheduled to be in court 1/22/08. I guess we'll have to keep waiting. I'm like you Southcitymom, I just can't wrap my head around someone deciding "I'm tired of being a suburban family man, I want a new life." and poof! shooting all of your obligations away. Sickening how his beautiful family was so disposable to him.

Right!! And, believe me, I can wrap my mind around a lot of the horror we read here. But with this - there's got to be something more we don't know.

There very well may have been a hearing today the 22nd but no info was reported. They seem to be following the gag order to a T.

I hadn't seen it on here anywhere, but just horrendous: Husband stabs wife, then sets house on fire killing his four children.
Vincent was supposed to have a 5th birthday party at his house on Sunday. Marguerite, who was supposed to be in an American Girl pageant the next morning, was burned over 90% of her body.

JOLIET -- A judge will allow experts hired by defense lawyers to speak to Christopher Vaughn.

An investigator and a researcher who will document Vaughn's background will meet with him at the county jail, Will County Judge Dan Rozak said Tuesday.

That's about the family whose car went off the road & ending up in a pond. This article was referring to a Mason, OH Family - last name something like Veillette, I'll have to look it up again. Like the Vaughns they lived in a new $435,000 home in a beautiful neighborhood. He is some kind of engineer who travels most of the time so the wife, Nadya Ferrari-Veillette, 33, takes care of the four kids (she had a little part time job at a cafe). 1/11/08 The wife noticed a $2,000 charge at a jewelry store on their charge account & asked if he was having an affair, a fight ensues - his version: he went to pack a bag to leave when she comes at him with a frying pan & knife, stabs him, he overtakes her, stabs her in the chest killing her, then he gets gasoline from the garage, douses the 2nd floor & lights it, claims he tried to save his children but was too overcome with smoke & jumped out the 2nd story window leaving Marguerite, 8, Vincent, 4-just about to turn 5, & 2 year old twins, Jacob & Mia, to die from smoke inhalation. A passerby saw the flames & called 911, didn't seem to be anyone home but she did offer to go to the front door to see if anyone was around, 911 operator told her it was too dangerous, after police arrive they find the husband Michel Veillette laying in the front yard. The 911 caller was parked in the driveway & never saw him the whole time. I should just go start a thread on them.

Vaughn appeared in Will County Judge Dan Rozek's courtroom Friday morning. Kielian told the judge that he still is waiting for information from the investigation of the crime scene. He does have material from the victim's autopsies, however.

Vaughn will return to court at 9:30 a.m. April 1.
