There's been full coverage at the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times. Today, the forensic pathologist testified that all 3 children were shot twice, once in the head and once in the abdomen, from a distance within 2'. Photos were shown to the jury of the wounds. The Tribune reported that Christopher Vaughn read his notes while the photos were shown and never looked up. He kept a notebook in jail & he never once wrote about his children. He left this marriage a long time ago.

Expert: Blood casts doubt on Christopher Vaughn’s story

State police forensic scientist Kelly Krajnik conducted an examination of blood evidence found on Vaughn’s clothing and items found inside the vehicle where his family was killed on June 14, 2007.

Vaughn has claimed that he was shot in the wrist and thigh by his wife, then left the vehicle immediately. He said he didn’t know until later that his wife, Kimberly, and children had been fatally shot, and he claimed it must have been Kimberly Vaughn who shot the kids before turning the gun on herself.

But Krajnik said Kimberly Vaughn’s blood was found on a jacket her husband was wearing at the time of the shootings, meaning he would have had to have been nearby when she was shot.

In other testimony from the trial, Illinois State Police fingerprint expert Wilburn Wilkins said he was unable to find any usable fingerprints from the murder weapon, spent cartridges or unused bullets but did find two fingerprints and one palm print -- all from Christopher Vaughn -- on the gun's magazine.

Okay...how can you tweet "Blood on #ChristopherVaughn jacket matches Kim's DNA wow! This is getting interesting." then pack it in for the rest of the GD week! UGH!!!
So absolutely nothing else happened in court after about 12:30 CST? Bollocks. Don't we have any websleuthers in Chicago that want to report from this trial?

I did come across a few more tweets from the trial - Mandy McSomething said Vaughn's parents "exchanged a smile" during Dr. Blum's testimony that Kim's meds could cause suicidal thoughts....so that confirms a) their continuing presence at the trial, and b) they are also residing in LaLa Land believing their morose, anti-social, stripper-loving precious angel is completely innocent.

<snip>

Krajnik said Kimberly Vaughn’s blood was found on a jacket her husband was wearing at the time of the shootings, which contradicts his claim that Kimberly Vaughn shot herself after he had left the scene to flag down a passing vehicle for help.

<snip>

Late Friday afternoon, additional evidence was introduced showing Vaughn’s blood in several places throughout the vehicle -- not just on the driver’s side where he was allegedly shot. Vaughn’s blood was found on Kimberly’s shirt, Kimberly’s shorts, on the passenger side floorboard, and in 17 stains found on both sides of the seatbelt Kimberly was allegedly wearing when she was shot.

Krajnik also tested a piece of flesh that ballistic experts found singed to a bullet hole in the bottom left of Vaughn’s coat. The hole had stumped forensic experts, who had trouble determining how the hole was made. Vaughn had no wound to his torso.

It was concluded that someone had wrapped the murder weapon in the jacket before the shot was fired, possibly as a way to conceal the weapon, soften the blow or silence a shot. DNA testing showed the flesh matched Christopher Vaughn.

Thanks so much for the updates on this horrific murder trial. Hopefully drEWWWW will have a cellmate in the very near future, as this one needs to be found guilty, guilty, guilty, guilty (one for each of his innocent victims).

When are these cowards going to ever get it that murdering your spouse is not the answer? I just can't wrap my head around the reasoning, no matter how I try to look at things.

Not just a spouse, but ones own children. Not something I can wrap my mind around either. I do wonder in this case if the jury might be impatient due to the evidence being so overwhelming against Chris. A defense in this case is nothing more than going through the motions. He did it. The evidence proves without any doubt, he did it.

I can't believe the level of stupidity on his part. For a highly successful computer forensic investigator who'd clearly spent a long time planning this out, he didn't even cover his tracks on the computer very well. I had given him much more credit than he deserved & really feared for five years that he might somehow get away with it.

I suppose it will be too much to hope for that the water bottle entered into evidence will have traces of Kim's suicidal drugs in it.

Good info coming out this afternoon. Ballistics expert testifies, the last gun round had fully recycled (not familiar with gun terms) which is inconsistent with suicides (meaning gun was fully supported after being fired) blood spatter-back not apparent on Kim's hands & the stains on her hands were larger than typical with these type of suicides. Shots to Sandy & Abby were fired from top left corner of front passenger seat. Abby & Blake were leaning back in their seats when they were shot in torsos. Edited: All 3 kids heads shot at distance of 3-12 inches.

Also, Kim's million dollar policy was taken out 2/04 so though it had a suicide clause, it had expired, and Chris Vaughn applied for the full benefits on June 22, 2007.

Final Nugget by ballistics expert: two bullet casings landed on Chris Vaughn's driver's seat BEFORE he was shot.
