richandfamous--In Texas whether or not you married, if you produced children with someone, you dont need a DNA to file for child support thru the Attorney Generals Office. Theres alot more paperwork, but you can still get CS thru the AG. I know someone who lived with this guy for about 12 years, have a child together, but no marriage. The AGs office have never asked for DNA, just sent her more paperwork, want witnesses, etc. But told her that they could get CS for her. No problem.

As for Sheila being a loser, I would like to know more about her own parents. I agree with you, this could be a cycle.

I think Sheila has mental abuse issues. The pattern tells a lot...the cycle of abuse.
Hobbs sounds like he has to have control and power (possibly a small penis? :waitasec: ). Spending time in jail because he won't take the Anger Management Class? This guy is in complete denial. I don't trust anything he has stated as it has not been backed up by someone else.
At this time I wouldn't take Sheila's word either. Time will tell what happens with her, hopefully she will heal.
What a horrific crime! I hope lawmakers sit up and take notice!
For some reason this tragedy reminded me of To Kill A Mockingbird, but with an unspeakable outcome.

God bless those two little sweeties.

Lawmakers everywhere need to get their acts together. This did not have to happen, this guy gave enough signs. These poor innocent girls, poor Laura knowing her father was bringing her to her death. I remember being her age and going through that fear of dying and death thing. I cannot imagine. Makes you kind of appreciate the parents you have. I know I think of my Dad differently and how I grew up being such a smartmouth. I'm sure he wanted to punch me sometimes.

After seeing the picture someone posted of the mother with the defense attorney I wondered why she would be with someone who is defending her daughter's murderer. Then I thought about poor Krystal's family & I wonder how they feel knowing that this woman is there defending this murdering sperm donor! This family can probably see what we see & wonder why this woman would be sticking up for the murderer. I cannot even imagine the horror & confusion that they must feel. The poor Tobias family!

I hope Laura's mother opens her eyes soon before she inflicts more pain on the other loved ones involved. I don't care what her reasons or excuses are to stand by him. He viciously killed 2 innocent & loving children & one of them was his child!!!!

Wow catching up overnight is tough! I'm not thinking too much about Sheila being with the defense attorney. Look she's been through absolute hell, LE is not nice under these circumstances, no one has been communicating and the Defense attorney shows up and begins courting her.

I'm going to give her a week or two to get her bearings before I start lighting the b-b-q.

LOL! :) Hi golfmom ... I'm just catching up at the end of MY DAY and it's been quite a feat (and feast!). Great posts ~ thanks to YOU again, for all the updates, snippets and views. Enjoy all your, Sauerkraut's & RaF's posts as well as everyone else's thoughts, of course.

Last night (my time) I was reading the 'old' thread and had felt from the moment the father became a suspect that he's nothing short a vicious, raging bully. His loooong rap sheet; his lethal, brutal temper and his cowardly attacks on the elderly, his own spouse, women and children just *convince* me that Laura's come under his physical and mental abuse for a long, long time.

Ugh! Utter vermin; an extreme danger to society and a miserable loser that parasites off of the kindness and/or patience of those close to him and when they've literally expired, he moves on to his next 'convenience'.

On a regular basis, I follow crimes worldwide, but specifically the USA, UK, Europe, South Africa and Australia ... I came across this link on BULLIES some time back and thought I'd post it here.

Hope it's interesting to other W/Sers!

As in the apple doesn't fall far from the tree (in both cases???).

It appears this creature was not out of prison a month, made a bee-line to Sheila's home and the trouble began. I bet this family were getting by well enough (despite the standard/regular pitfalls of life) until HE returned.

I think Sheila might have had a long, tough, hard and exhaustive life to date. That's just my guess...

Sad circumstances :(

John Murphy (center), attorney with the Lake County Public Defender's office, escorts the sister of Jerry Hobbs (right) and Sheila Hollabaugh (left), the mother of Laura Hobbs, past media on their way from the Babcox Justice Center to the Lake County Courthouse Wednesday in Waukegan for the bond hearing of Jerry Hobbs. Hobbs is accused of killing his daughter, Laura, 8, and her friend, Krystal Tobias, 9, both of Zion

So I guess Hobbs' sister has come from Texas to support her brother?
You know, my first thought when I saw this pic was that they had the names wrong on the two women...looking at it I would have guessed that the blonde on the right, in the white shirt, was Laura's mom...just because she looks SO much like Laura....

I wonder who his dad was and how successful he was as a country western musician...????
I have to assume this is him?? Because isn't the SOB a Jerry Hobbs III?? If so it would make sense that this is his father....

Hello! I'm Jerry D. Hobbs!!!

I've had an excellent country band in Central California for 19 years. I've been involved with many aspects of the country music business. I've played and helped on the Bakersfield Country Opry shows. I've had the privilege of playing with David Frizzell, Johnny Western, Rose Maddox, Jerry Arnold. I've released 2 singles, and one CD out of Nashville. My latest song, "I'm A Texas Boy," (which is on my album).

JERRY D. HOBBS. Sixty miles North of Bakersfield is an agricultural town Lindsay, CA located near Visalia, CA ... the town where I was born. Well a very talented singer/songwriter by the name of Jerry D. Hobbs calls Lindsay home. Recently Jerry mailed me his latest recorded project (currently only available in cassette) called "Keepin' It Country." There's only one way that decribes Jerry and the band called the Country Rhythm Makers music "Texas Boogie to the max." If you love Bob Wills as I do ... you will just love Jerry and the band. He also sings some fine ballads on his cassette. I however don't want to pigeonhole Jerry in one category. I have seen Jerry performing live and he is very capable of performing various styles of Traditional Country Music that pleases one and all. Everywhere he and the band performs up and down the great San Joaquin Valley in Central California where he consistently draws a crowd and that in itself speaks volumes of Jerry's talent.

Hello! I'm Jerry D. Hobbs!!!

Jerry Branton Hobbs III ....and one article says that his father died 10 years ago. However, the "III" could be from a previous generation...don't know. But boy, if my name was Jerry Hobbs....skeerry.

I thought that, too. I even checked around on the internet :blushing: & found a couple others of her mom.

I can't help but see myself at this age and thank gawd that someone held out a hand and pulled me out of the line of fire.

This is a reminder that I have to pass it forward. I have a new foster daughter. Her life was very dangerous as it was for these little girls.
She is 13 and hadn't been in school for several months. Her mother was running the country chasing ex cons she met in jail. She came to stay with us and I put her in school 2 months ago. We just found out today that despite the fact that she is heart broken that her mother is not what she should be and was so far behind in school, she has made straight A's and has a great attitude. The principal called me today and told me that she will graduate from Junior High to High School!!! So YES, some people can overcome. We had a celebration. She is a trooper. I am blessed.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to you and your foster daughter!!!!!!!!! You're making a positive difference in a child's life.
I LOVE hearing that kind of news!!!!!
God Bless You & Your family!!!!

(P.S I LOVE your sig line!!!! Its the truth!!!)

I thought it was Branton...At any rate, if SOB is a III his father would have to be a Jerry Hobbs...I could find nothing about a Jerry Hobbs, country singer except for the Jerry D. Hobbs....interestingly enough he sings a song called I'm A Texas Boy

If you compare the picture of the Aunt (blonde on right) with the picture of jerry Hobbs, you will see that their facial features are similar. Same nose and mouth. Laura took after her father's side of the family.

OK. Sheila looks younger in these pictures. In that first one (with the lawyer) she looked like she was in her 40s! I wonder who the woman is in front of her?

Thanks for all the comments on my new daughter...but, really...I'm just doing what was done for me. Also, it is mostly her inner strength that has help her. I also have a 14yr and 16yr old biological daughters. They are all in a club for young girls to realize their power and responsibility as women. It's called the Salt Club (salt of the earth). If it wasn't for my girls and their support I couldn't be the mother they think I am. lol Like I said, I am blessed.

You're my hero darlin!!!!!

I thought the same too when I saw the picture. Laura's mother actually looks like she's smirking -- did anyone notice that?

How she can even defent that SOB, I have no clue. He confessed for crying out loud (on paper, on tape, and on video). And she's still defending him?
I hope she wakes up soon.
