Circumstances of Disappearance​

Mae Lee Leonard was last March 26, 1980, being beaten and dragged by the hair by her husband. They had been married for 3 weeks and lived in the 3rd-floor apartment on Baucum Street in Venice, Illinois.

In 2001, Venice Police asked the Illinois State Police to investigate her disappearance. Foul play is suspected.

I think we can read between the lines on why Mae’s disappearance was never investigated despite having eye witnesses. Sounds like a bit of corruption with the higher ups at that time. The longtime mayor there was friends with the suspect’s father. Such a sad situation for her family. Thank you for posting her case. I hope she can go home one day.

I found the husband's father's obituary. It reads that he owned and operated several businesses in Madison and Brooklyn, Ill. I found Mae's husband's current location, what is more surprising than where he lives is how many prior residences are listed for him, over 50. Several match locations in the news article and other online sources. The West Jefferson location where witnesses claim they saw M Jr. beating Mae is also an address that Jr. has listed as a previous and is near the Mississippi river and the Missouri border, with I-70 nearby. Also, I'm surprised that there is no DNA available if her sister is still alive.

I can't find her on NamUs as a missing person.
