GUILTY IL - Mya Lyons, 9, stabbed to death, Chicago, 15 July 2008

  • #121
I am very serious. The relatives are saying that they believe that it was someone in the home that killed her. Maybe the stepmom went off. It wouldn't be the first time. She wasn't raped so it certainly could have been a woman.

Rhett - I think you have a valid idea. Trying to put this in perspective --

Mya's mother comes to pick her up. She is having a good time and wants to stay longer. She spends some time at a friend's house that day. From here, the most "consistent" story is that she went to bed around 11:00 p.m. Dad hears a door shut and gets up to see what is going on. He discovers Mya missing - and it appears, everyone goes out to look for her. Dad finds her in alley. Apparently Uncle is close behind. At this point, Mya is still alive. Dad puts her in van, Uncle gets in and they rush to the hospital.

There is discrepancy over whether or not Mya was still alive upon reaching the hospital, but the most consistent story is that she was still alive when she arrived at the hospital around 11:30 p.m. and that she passed close to 3:00 a.m.

Questions:
1. If it was someone in the house, wouldn't there have been some noise? Mya was violently attacked. This is not a quiet crime. She would have screamed, etc.
2. If it was the stepmom, or even the dad for that matter, is it reasonable to think that there would have been some kind of blow up before hand? Mya got in trouble for something and someone was screaming and yelling before they lost it?
3. If it was not someone in the house, did Mya make an agreement with the friend to sneak out (she was only 9) and meet her friend?
4. Who is the friend? Did this friend also sneak out of her/his house?
5. Where was Mya attacked? Was it in the alley, where there was "so much evidence" or was Mya taken to the alley after the attack?
6. Was Mya beat, taken to the alley and then stabbed to throw off suspicion from someone in the house? If that is the case, I have a hard time believing this is the dad, because why would he rush her to the hospital after finding her?
7. Mom trusted her daughter with dad. I think this speaks volumes. If there was even the littlest bit of discord, Mom would have made Mya go home. How many custodial parents will give their child extra time with the other parent? especially if they think the other parent is unfit, or they dislike the stepparent?

Okay, what else? This is a puzzle. Does anyone think we should send an email to Nancy Grace and ask for some media coverage?

Very good analysis Salem, and there's no news here, no mention, no nothing, and I believe maybe they still don't know who did it! Its no way the LE would allow this person to walk freely in the streets if they knew who did it. They want that animal locked up, but it seems they can't find it!

Think about it. If we don't hear of an arrest soon, this means whoever killed that precious little girl knew exactly what they were doing, and it was carefully planned and calculated so they wouldn't get caught.

Or, does it take this long for the DNA to come back?

I don't know how long it takes on the DNA. I would think in some cases it could be speeded up, but even in the Caylee Anthony case, there has been no release of DNA results in well over a week now. And that case is National.

I wish something would break here or a local reporter would do an in-depth report.

It really seems to me if it was someone in the house, there would have been an argument before hand and other members of the household would talk about that. I have a hard time believing that a family member would deliberately and coldly do such a thing to a young child without some kind of upset to set them off.

I guess we keep checking. I'm not very good at trying to "push things along."

i have one thing to add, that i haven't seen in any of the posts i read on this case.

don't homicide investigators have kind of a guideline that violent knife murders are very personal and quite often are done by family members/relatives/known assailants?

i'm reminded of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in this.

i would say that if they can clear the father and the uncle, that another family member or neighborhood acquaintance may have done it.

Has anyone ever mentioned the possibility that Mya told anyone who did this or gave them any clues?

She was alive when her dad found her. She was alive when she got to the hospital. Was she conscious at all?

I mean, I would think that would lead to a pretty quick arrest, but it does seem weird that the very first reports said she was sexually assaulted - not that she "may have been" but that she WAS. And then, no, sorry, that was wrong. That's not something they usually say until they are sure.

Did Mya say someone hurt her that way?

I would think that would have leaked by now, but I am just amazed at what we are NOT hearing in this case. Really really incredible the lack of info - not even rumors really getting to the national level.

It needs to get stirred up or someone is going to get away with this.

That's what I've always heard too, personal and an act of extreme anger. It doesn't seem like a stranger would kill her in this way but it has happened.

I hope this doesn't go cold and no one is punished for taking this little girl's life.

I'm wondering if someone wasn't in the act of trying to sexually assault her and was interrupted. So that initially it looked as if she had been assaulted in such a manner.

Do we have any myspace searchers here? If so, would you mind looking for myspace pages for the dad and anyone else connected? I doubt Mya would have one, she is too young, but her mother might? I would do it, but I don't have a myspace account and I'm pretty unfamiliar with the process. I've done a couple of searches, but I never seem to find anything.....

I didn't know about the knife stuff. Thanks lightwaveryder for that info.

There's got to be something we can do... what did everyone think about trying to get this some media attention through Nancy Grace or somesuch person?

Latest article on Mya. In the last paragraph, the reporter points out that there were two other cases where family members were charged and incarcerated. In one case DNA proved it was not the family member and in the other case, DNA evidence could not place the family member at the crime scene. Interesting.

Good question Angelmom. Also, the other guy they hauled in had a scratch that the media said may have been bite marks. I wonder if they have evidence/DNA from Mya that shows she bit someone?

I am anxiously awaiting the DNA results and what they might tell. I don't think the dad did it either. I think if it was someone in the family home that night, someone else would be talking about a fight/argument or Mya getting in trouble. We have heard nothing about that so far. Also, if it was someone in the home and it was done quietly, then there should be evidence of sexual abuse, and that is not the case here. Why else would you harm a child like this?

I want to know why she left the house. I want to know if she had plans to meet a friend?

I saw the relative yesterday and she said there has been no new information. Nothing else is being said from the LE and its like this case has gone cold.

omg!! Just seen this thread for the first time, she has the same name as my 6 year old daughter. who would do this to such a little girl?? why so much violence and anger involved??? it had to have been someone she knew, imo.:(

I know the police are probably still working hard on this case (or I hope they are) but it's so hard to sit back and wait. Waiting to hear that someone has been arrested and punished for what they did to this sweet, little girl.

I know. It is frustrating not hearing anything.
