Potts' case had seemed to suddenly shift gears in late summer when Cook County Judge Thomas Gainer Jr. set a Jan. 5 trial date and ordered both sides to prepare for pre-trial arguments. But in late September, Potts sent word to Gainer that he needed to see the judge: For the fifth time in the case, the defendant wanted to change his legal strategy. He wanted the judge to appoint attorneys for him.

After much discussion, Gainer agreed to reappoint two of his previous public defenders to the case. And though the judge left the trial date in place officially, more delays seemed inevitable, as Potts' counsel all but assured the court she could not be ready by January, leading prosecutors to decry the defendant's latest change of course.

"The family's been waiting for seven years. Your honor, we're asking that this be it. That this be it," Assistant State's Attorney Maria McCarthy said with emphasis. "Potts is very smart, so this 'aw-shucks, I didn't know what I was getting into' is absolutely false. He did this for no other reason than to delay."

Sentencing delayed because the murderer refused to enter the courtroom saying he objected to cameras in the courtroom.

Seriously , wth. Why can't they sentence him in absentia? This is the court allowing this poc to continue to victimize this family. I wonder how long he'll be allowed to play this game.

Only as long as they let him.. Sentence him and be done with it, Who cares about this worthless piece of $#!t.
