I know. It's sickening. You can just tell by her photos what a beautiful and vibrant young woman she was.

From the article linked above:

"Police said Franklin told them a week prior to being reported missing that a man she briefly dated had been threatening her life, and she filed a police report. Police have talked to the man, who a law enforcement source said came with an attorney. But they have not named him as a suspect in her disappearance."

"briefly dated" What is wrong with people that they just can't let go when a relationship sours. That is just so bizarre to me.

She said there is no suspect or POI. :(

A funeral service was held Wednesday night for Nailah Franklin, 28. Her body was found last week in Calumet City, nine days after she was reported missing. Hundreds came to celebrate her life.

Franklin lived in Chicago and was a pharmaceutical sales representative for Eli Lily.
A visitation was held from 4 - 7 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 400 W. 95th St. A funeral service followed.

The tribute to Nailah Franklin began, "Dignity, elegance, courage and strength are the words that describe Nailah Franklin, who entered this world strong and opinionated and left after touching an entire nation."

Reginald Potts -- who dated slain pharmaceutical rep Nailah Franklin and whose name has been linked to the investigation of her murder -- was arrested Tuesday on unrelated charges.

Maywood police arrested Potts, 30, for violating an order of protection obtained by another woman. While being taken into custody at the Maywood courthouse, Potts resisted and struck a sheriff's deputy with his elbow, officials said.

A Chicago man who once dated Nailah Franklin, the pharmaceutical representative whose disappearance and slaying stirred the city this fall, was charged Friday with her murder, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office said.

Reginald Potts Jr., 30, has been in Cook County Jail since last month, serving a 100-day sentence he received after pleading guilty to violating an order of protection. While in jail, he was charged with aggravated battery for striking a sheriff's deputy and was ordered held without bail for that charge.

Not to be a pest, but I am friends with one of Nailah's friends in Chicago. The guy who left her the harassing message was someone she had gone on about three dates with. He was not ever her boyfriend and it is very difficult for her family and friends to constantly read him being referred to as her ex-boyfriend.

Masterj, is this the guy that was arrested?

Yes, the guy who left the message was the guy arrested.

A high-tech analysis of cell phone records shattered the alibi of Reginald Potts, leading to his arrest for the murder of his former girlfriend, pharmaceutical rep Nailah Franklin, police said Saturday.

Investigators also collected physical evidence and determined that witnesses did not confirm Potts' alibi for where he was on the day in September when 28-year-old Franklin was killed, Chicago Police said
. . .
Days before Franklin was killed, she had received a threatening phone call from Potts and reported it to police, who urged her to get an order of protection, police said.
She was in the process of doing that when she was slain, police said.

Yes, that is him. Such a sad, sad story. Does anyone know if it was ever confirmed that he was the one posting comments on Steve Huff's site. If I am not mistaken, the thread was shut down because of his comments.

The man accused of murder in the death of Nailah Franklin, 28, was animated in a court appearance Friday.

Reginald Potts Jr. was scheduled for a preliminary hearing but asked a judge to ignore what his court-appointed attorney wanted to do and instead get straight to trial, with Potts possibly defending himself.

The 31-year-old former boyfriend of Franklin appeared twice in court before judge Israel Desierto. Shackled at the wrists and ankles, he opposed a state request to delay his preliminary hearing, where it's determined if there is enough evidence to move to trial, to next Friday.

Is this the creep that she only dated a time or two? I hope the fool does defend himself! We know what happens to those that do. Sounds like LE has the evidence that they need to send him away for a long time anyway. Sounds like he murdered her because she wouldn't have anything to do with him.

Well that's good news. It wouldn't have done this young lady any good to get a order of protection anyway. Seems like he broke the one that some other lady had against him so he had no regard for the law. He sure is a violent person. Maybe this young lady sensed that there was something really wrong with him and that is why she didn't want to date him but only those few times. Sense when don't women have the right to decide who they want to date and who they don't! Hope he still plans to be his own attorney.

Just saw this story in todays paper- Reginald Potts, the suspect in Nailah Franklins murder, has decided to represent himself in his murder trial.
Suspect takes on his own case in murder trial

The judge could not have been clearer to Reginald Potts Jr.
"I think you are making a horrible, horrible mistake that could end up costing you your life," Cook County Circuit Judge Thomas Gainer Jr. said, his eyes locked on Potts. "Do you understand that?"
"Yes, I do," said Potts, who was seeking permission Friday to represent himself in his trial on charges he kidnapped and killed ex-girlfriend Nailah Franklin in September 2007.
Authorities say he stalked and threatened Franklin before he killed her and dumped her body in woods in Calumet City. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

I say go for it, do the prosecutor's job for them. Hopefully it won't be grounds for appeal, "ineffective counsel".

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/10...der-victims-family-still-waiting-for-justice/

Seven years after the high-profile murder of young Chicago woman, the family is still waiting for justice...

Reginald Potts, Franklin’s former boyfriend, was arrested just three months after her disappearance. He still sits in the Cook County Jail. He’s had nearly 100 court appearances — but no trial.

CBS 2 Legal Analyst Irv Miller, a former prosecutor, says that is not typical of a criminal case. “You have a defendant who has created a perfect storm of delays,” Miller says.
