Lake Station police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl a homicide, authorities said. Nieyely Lopez, 2, died of blunt force trauma, according to the Lake County coroner.

Murder charges filed in beating death of Lake Station 2-year-old

Harris is in custody, being held without bail. Nicole Lopez has not been charged. Lake County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Barbara McConnell said Lopez did finally cooperate in the investigation and agreed to testify against Harris.

Antonio D. Harris II, 19, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, neglect of a dependent and battery charges filed in the death of Nieyely Lopez, 2, whose lifeless body was handed to Gary firefighters on May 17 in the Miller section of Gary.
