A Cook County judge issued a gag order Monday barring all parties from publicly discussing the case of a Chicago police officer captured on videotape viciously beating a female bartender.

Circuit Judge John Fleming cited the number of times the videotape of Officer Anthony Abbate has been broadcast and public statements from the bartender and her attorneys.

Good! Hope he lives out the rest of his worthless "free" life as a security guard at a storage unit facility! Loser...

There's absolutely no excuse for such a vicious attack. That guy looks disgusting. Really--a total loser!!

*giggle* because he thought he was in danger

If he was that scared of a woman tending bar, how scared would he be facing a suspect with a gun?

It sounds more like he was PO'd because she wouldn't serve him. Good to see that he finally got held responsible for what he did.

I'm sure there are a lot of good officers in LE in the Chicago area. But there have been too many stories like this one coming from Chicago and the surrounding areas. And if the officals allow them to get by with stuff like this, there will be more. And the solution is not to "clean up the image" the solution is to make it zero tolerance for brutality in any form, on or off the job.

"An off-duty Chicago police officer convicted of pummeling a female bartender half his size was sentenced Tuesday to two years probation and anger management classes for the videotaped attack that appeared worldwide on the Internet and cable news channels."

From December 2012:

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/...de-of-silence-verdict-abbate-case-police-code

A federal jury's judgment that a "code of silence" in the Chicago Police Department protects rogue officers will stand, the trial judge ruled Thursday, rejecting the Emanuel administration's attempt to erase the verdict from one of the department's most notorious scandals.

The ruling amounted to a second legal defeat for the city in the case of a drunken off-duty police officer whose video-recorded beating of a female bartender in 2007 went viral on the Internet.

A federal jury ruled last month that the city should pay former bartender Karolina Obrycka $850,000 after finding that fellow officers covered up for Anthony Abbate, who eventually was convicted of a felony and fired. The city then cut a deal with Obrycka, offering to pay her the settlement immediately if she agreed to join in asking the court to vacate the judgment.
