It appears I'm the only one interested in this police officers death, so this will be the final post. Apparently the officer & the other persons cars crashed. The officer shot & killed the other person before he died from injuries as a result of the crash.

I just came online for the first time today, bwt42. I am very interested in the story. I have never quite understood why there seems to be so little posting when a police officer is killed in the line of duty.

May the officer RIP and God bless his family and his brothers and sisters in blue who all mourn his passing.

"Although he spent time in prison, Patterson hadn’t been in trouble with the law for about a decade until Cox stopped him early Sunday morning in the area of East State Street and Dawn Avenue. Patterson was driving without a license. His pickup truck had expired plates belonging to another vehicle.

Cox somehow became entangled in Patterson’s truck and the officer was killed when the truck hit a tree blocks away from the initial stop. An autopsy determined that although Patterson’s body was injured during the crash, he died as a result of a gunshot wound."

Sounds to me like Patterson tried to drive away because of the possibility of going back to jail.

And the only way that the coup would 'become entangled in Patterson’s truck' would be if he tried to stop him from driving away. JMO

Authorities determined Monday that a Rockford police officer killed in a crash early Sunday had fatally shot the man whose vehicle he was trying to pull over during a traffic stop.
The Winnebago County coroner’s office conducted autopsies Monday on officer Jaimie Cox, 30, and Eddie Patterson, 49, according to Rockford police. They found that Cox died of blunt-force trauma caused by the crash with Patterson’s vehicle. Police said his death was now considered a homicide.
