Police and MACT detectives obtained a search warrant to inspect the vehicle, a Honda, which was parked behind the missing man’s home in Lyons near 44th and Prescott Avenue. The body was discovered Saturday around 11 am.

Lyons Police officials had asked members of the public this week to assist in helping to locate the missing individual.

Police said that they are urging anyone who knows anything about the missing man and the incident to contact the Lyons Police Department at 708-447-1225.

Jhobalia has no children and was living alone at the home.“ (BBM)

It sounds like there may be foul play involved, IMO.

Maybe he lived alone in Lyons and no one went to the home to check on him, or his car was parked in an alley behind the home no one checked when looking for him? If family contacted the police for a well being check maybe his car was missed?

Or, if foul play is involved maybe someone dumped his body and the car back at his home after he was reported missing? (This was my first thought when I saw this one the news.)

I live a mile and a half from here in a neighboring village. Most of the homes are built well before the 60's and bungalows on small lots are the norm. Most of those houses have garages that exit to an alley and a lot of folks left the room when installing a fence to park a car on the back of the property. However, 44th and Prescott only have a couple of homes around it, one has a driveway, the other has parking behind the house. The rest of the housing at that intersection is businesses or apartments where the tenant parking is behind the building. They said his Honda was parked behind his "home" (as in place of residence), not his "house", so it's possible he lived in the apartments. Crime in this area, (and even more so in Downers Grove and points between) is very low compared to the rest of Chicago. I'm perfectly comfortable walking around alone in the area. Given his age, I'm more inclined to think medical event.

Seems he was a well-liked guy. Family, a local sports bar where he was a regular customer and friends have been posting all over Facebook. He was known as Jr.

The video shows the parking space. I hope these are surveillance cameras?

Whatever it is - it appears to be angled down at a steep angle, not providing a view of the parking lot. I will take a drive over and take a look, it's 5 minutes from my house.

I drove over there. If you Google Street view 44th and Prescott" you'll see a sort of salmon colored house with a cream colored house next to it across the street from a business. His apartment is the apartments next to the cream-colored house after crossing the smaller side street. It's where I thought he lived. There are NO security cameras. What is circled in the picture earlier in the thread is a couple of plastic covers for what appears to be a vent or junction box. There was a police car nearby (not watching, just patrol) so I did NOT get out of my truck to inspect it but it was most definitely NOT cameras. I didn't see a camera anywhere, including at the business across the street which is empty.

Wow, good job!

Too bad there are no cams. I hope they will find the perp(s) anyway.

A little more info:

Chicago (CBS) — At Time Out Sports Bar in suburban Countryside, the seat at the end of the bar is noticeably empty.

Normally, the spot’s reserved for Paresh Jhobalia. Time Out staff called him ‘Junior’ and knew his order – a bottle of Miller Lite.

Chrisiana Johnson is a bartender at Time Out and a friend of Jhobalia’s.

‘He was just a nice guy. He was super sweet,’ Johnson said. ‘Everybody loved him. Everybody knew his name.’

The 62-year-old was reported missing last week by his family. Jhobalia is originally from India and retired several years ago.

His stabbed body was found Saturday inside his car, which was parked near his Lyons apartment. His unit is now a crime scene protected by police tape.

His brother told CBS 2 over the phone that the family is grieving right now, but they are working with police in the hopes of an arrest.” (BBM)

CHICAGO (CBS) — Police in Lyons and the Major Case Assistance Team want the public’s help in finding a “person of interest” in the death of a 62-year-old man.

[SBM]

Authorities said the person of interest is Brian Cruz. Police said he is one of the last people to have been been with Jhobalia before he disappeared.

Lyons police describe Cruz as being six feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.”

The POI is a registered “Child Sex Offender” (“VICTIM WAS 13 YEARS OF AGE
OFFENDER WAS 28 AT THE TIME OF THE OFFENSE”; “AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE/VICTIM 13-16”).

His current location is unknown (“Offender has fled the address given on registration records without notification.”).

I can't post it here as I don't think we're allowed to list a victim's exact address. (I have a link to a mugshot for the POI which has his address which I can send to a moderator if they wish to verify it) but it lists the "last known" address of Mr. Cruz as being the same address as the victim. Not sure if it's the same apartment as the Victim's apartment number is unknown but it's the same physical building.
