Adoptive son of Bradley University couple to be sentenced in March

PEORIA — In early March, a Princeville man will be sentenced to life in prison — the only sentence possible for killing his parents and dumping their bodies into a nearby river.

On Friday, Judge Katherine Gorman, who is now sitting in Tazewell County, set the sentencing hearing for Jose Ramirez for March 6. It'll occur in one of Peoria County's second-floor courtrooms and the same one where Gorman found the 21-year-old Ramirez guilty of killing Bradley University professor Susan Brill de Ramirez and Antonio Ramirez Barron on Oct. 26, 2018.

Gorman also threw out a motion by Ramirez's attorney to have the state law that mandates a life sentence for people who have been convicted of two or more people declared unconstitutional. The motion was hoping to throw out that law and thus open Ramirez up to a lesser sentence. The judge, however, said no.

Was wondering @inmyhumbleopinion - can you access it? See post #69 for link. TIA! :) Just wondering what happened at the motions hearing on 8/5.

edited to add: Case #18-CF-00697-01 - it says "case closed", but still has info on it.

Wondering "what" Case passed means?

He was sentenced to natural life in prison with no chance of parole. But then the defense filed a motion - which they never mention what that was - I guess they might have backed out on that.

In any case - I'm filing this one away....
