The bankruptcy filing was referenced by the quoted MSM because this was the source used to cite Chemi-Flex and Euclid Beverage as their employers.

However, US Bankruptcy records are public information, and generally, cases filed as long as 10 years ago are easily accessible (i.e., anyone may call the court and verify if you have filed bankruptcy).

Actually, it's very much possible that the couple was no longer employed by the firms reported above and that they had different jobs/employers closer to their residence. MOO
I fully understand how sources work—I think I should have phrased my question more clearly!

I meant to ask why a reporter would need to rely on bankruptcy filings in order to verify a pretty basic piece of personal information about the two deceased victims. Although I personally feel that filing for bankruptcy is not a shameful thing, I believe many other people feel quite differently, and even look at it as a moral failing of some sort. I also feel that even a merely competent reporter could have identified another source for the names of AR‘s and ZB’s employers, and need not have referenced the couple‘s (previous? current?) financial struggles at all.

The murdered husband and wife and their young children are victims of a heinous, senseless crime that's been reported nationally. We don't sleuth victims here and personally, I applaud how the majority of Media (competent or other) that have respected their privacy over the past week.

While we've all been anxious to learn the nexus known by police, I think we will learn this information including whether or not the motive was work-related when police are ready to make the information public. That said, I also applaud the victims' employers, co-workers, and friends for the same respect shown to the victims while all those affected by the tremendous loss grieve. MOO

I kinda don't think this is work-related.
It's too intense.

I don't know what it is...but it seems more than work-related. MOO

It was the attorney for EP's family that hinted about a possible workplace connection, EP's daughter adding that NH last worked at a machinery warehouse. Personally, I agree the massacre of an entire family seems much more than work-related.

According to the Palomo family attorney, EP had no connection to the family. No "nexus" there.

Palomo had no connection to the Romeoville family killed on Sunday, Ivec said. Huey may have had a connection with one of the family members through their work, he said.

Actually, nothing is more personal or intense than having problems at work, especially when the person feels persecuted or targeted.

I am actually surprised that we don't see more of these situations.

Romeoville murder suspect Nathaniel Huey Jr.’s criminal past should have been a red flag – including a court order banning him from possessing firearms. CBS 2 Investigator Dave Savini reports.

It's been two weeks and no updates?? Come on LE...

Zoraida's sister posted recently (not sure of date) on their fundraising site that they were holding private funeral services and that the police investigation was continuing.

I wonder if LE have been waiting on NH's toxicology results before they give any update on the case.

Has LE given any updates on the investigation?

Not yet. It's possible they are waiting for toxicology results. We don't know.

New information has been released in this case today.

"In a noon-hour written statement, authorities said: "The investigation has revealed that Zoraida Bartolomei and the suspect, Nathaniel Huey Jr. had a relationship together. The existence of this relationship was known both by Bartolomei's husband, Alberto Rolon and Huey Jr.'s girlfriend, Ermalinda Palomo."

While investigators are not saying the victim and shooter had an estranged relationship, or whether this was a secret romance-gone-sour, the admission by police that the mother and the shooter had "a relationship together" is the first solid suggestion of a possible motive.

The I-Team has learned that detectives have video and digital evidence that Palomo accompanied Huey, Jr. to the murder scene and drove the getaway vehicle.

"Evidence indicates Palomo had prior knowledge of Huey Jr.'s intent to commit the murders, was involved in the planning, and drove the vehicle to the crime scene" the police statement read. "Digital evidence shows the path of the vehicle used to commit the crime traveling from Huey Jr.'s and Palomo's home in Streamwood, Illinois to the 500 Block of Concord in Romeoville and back to Streamwood at the time the murders took place. Huey Jr. exited and re-entered the offending vehicle from the passenger side and Palomo was the driver of the vehicle."

So Palomo was an accomplice to murder.

Edited to change post, both Huey and Palomo died in the car crash with LE when they were located in Oklahoma.

What a horrific story...

Shooter Huey and his GF Palomo (who was NOT home asleep as earlier alleged) slaughtered a family and for what-- because Huey cheated with the married victim?

I thought it was Roberto who possibly worked at a warehouse with the Huey but it now seems more likely that Huey and Zoraida may have worked together at the same location.

So why kill the family and their pets -- Huey's final act to prove his love, devotion, and allegiance to Palomo?

This is sick, sick...

(Reminds me of Florida's Markel murder case where KM allegedly gave her baby daddy an ultimatum to participate in a murder for hire she was brokering if he "wanted her back").

Actually, both Huey and Palomo died of gunshot wounds after the car came to a halt when it crashed into a barrier. Police previously reported Huey shot Palomo in the head and turned the gun on himself. Huey was dead at the scene at Palomo later died at hospital.

Following is IMO: I can't quite tell from the reporting, honestly, whether or not the relationship between ZB and NH was a thing of the PAST, or if it was ongoing as of the time of the murders--and I also am not sure how to interpret the statement that AR and EP *knew* about the relationship between ZB and NH (did their knowledge of it make them unhappy, or were they okay with it [for instance, maybe the couples were not totally exclusive/monogamous]?). If the former is true, then I can see how maybe EP knowing about NH being with Zoraida could've made her more willing to go along with Huey's* murder plan (*are we even sure it was totally HIS idea?).

Crazy. Why kill children? It appears that LEO has done significant work on this. Was it the family of Palomo who had stated emphatically that she was a victim in this situation? Had they verified that she was home at the time of the murders?

That was what the family implied, IMO. The fact that she was an accomplice to murdering children is suprising, if I remember correctly - her facebook page was all about family and her grandkids?

IMO, LE has clear evidence that Palomo was not home in bed as reported by the family and their spokesperson where the family just now stated the latest evidence is new to them and they are continuing to cooperate with LE. In other words, they are not denying the info and probably trying to digest the evidence with the rest of us.

I think they reported her missing as endangered because they feared Huey. Unfortunately, it's now a fact that she dropped him off at the victims' residence and circled back to collect him after he massacred the entire family. She was an accomplice to murder, period. JMO

So very sad. Palomo didn't have to know about the children, or pull the trigger, under "felony murder" or "law of parties" --and had she lived, she very well could have been charged with murder.

Reportedly, Nathaniel Huey Jr.'s fiancée Ermalinda Palomo helped plan the execution-style murders of Zoraida Bartolomei and her family, Romeoville police said.
