GUILTY IL - Sheila von Wiese Mack, 62, in suitcase in Bali, 12 Aug 2014 *fnd guilty in Bali* #6

@Kamille - just checking that Mack has a status hearing on 12/21/22 still?

TIA!

I believe it was determined after her last status hearing that the next one was on that date and this bail hearing should not have changed that IMO. So unless there are any court delays or any changes to the calendar, I’d say that she still has her next status hearing on the 21st of this month.

JUST IN: Judge rules Heather Mack will remain jailed pending trial in Chicago federal case stemming from mother’s 2014 slaying in Bali, saying there is “plenty of reason to believe she is a danger to the community.”
@Niner
Glad to see that Sheila’s family were there to continue trying to bring justice for her murder. Also relieved to see that the judge was paying attention.

Wow, she might get a life sentence. She held a hand over her own mother's mouth while her boyfriend beat her mother. I think this is new info to me. Were they tapping her phone calls to a relative? Said her mother had to die. I remember Heather did a lot of talking and it ended up in the press, sometimes saying she was glad her mother was dead and other times faking remorse. Always acting like she knew what she was doing, not that she was mentally ill. Her big mouth over the phone to that relative will hopefully help sentence her to LWOP.

Prosecutors say that, in what appears to be a recorded conversation at the prison, and in a subsequent recorded phone call between Mack, Tommy Schaefer and a relative of Schaefer, Heather Mack admitted to “covering Von Wiese’s mouth with her hand” while boyfriend Schaefer beat her.

When the relative asked in a later phone call why Mack did that, Mack reportedly replied that “Von Weise had to die because Schaefer would have been in even bigger trouble if Von Wiese survived.” Von Wiese Mack, they say, “suffered more than a dozen blows” to her head.

“These and other admissions indicate that Mack didn’t just conspire to kill her mother, but was directly involved in her mother’s murder,” prosecutors allege.

I read this too. The only 2 relatives of Schaefer's that have been mentioned to date are his mom, Kia Walker, and his cousin, Robert Bibbs. Robert is now in prison for conspiracy to this murder.

Heather holding her hand on Sheila's mouth while Tommy beat and killed her is new info. The US justice department is not messing around with Heather. I think she will be locked up for a very long time. Poor Stella. She is 6 now. Has been shuffled around all over, both in Bali and the US. Both her parents are in prison. It's going to be difficult for her to have a normal life.

A pretty good synopsis of the bail hearing in this article…
Thank You @Kamille for the news article.
It is documented and credible people have testified to Heather Mack's diabolical plans and evil shape-shifting ways. She is dangerous. Very pleased she was denied bond until her trial. In my opinion, there's no reason to offer her a plea deal. We've all waited a long time to see true Justice for Sheila.

Mack, Wiese said, was “well-traveled, savvy and resourceful,” and would be able to talk people of means into helping her. He also noted that Mack had the phone number of her mother’s estate lawyer and had called him from jail in Indonesia to inquire into accessing the trust.

“What 18 year old has the phone number of her mother’s estate lawyer,” Wiese asked.

Calling his niece “brutal, manipulating and narcissistic,” he told the judge, “To release Heather would shatter our sense of security.”

Debbie Curran’s daughter has been granted temporary custody of Mack’s daughter Stella by a Cook County court and lives with her in Colorado. Curran’s voice quavered as she fought back tears while testifying about the trauma and despair her sister endured in the years leading up to the murder.

But despite her tears, she too was withering in her
characterizations of her niece. Mack, she said, “will appear frail and weak,” but it is, she said, a ploy. “She is a master manipulator and can come up with this look on command.”

Thanks @Weezer Fan. Tommy and Bibbs got sucked into her plan, and it was a real plan to kill her own Mother. Heather is bad news for everybody. (Almost bragged about it at times.) She may have blabbed to others, more than those two, and that 2017 youtube video isn't going to help her one bit. She has been led to believe she's invincible, and has gotten away with years of sly torturing of Sheila. I don't like that phrase "if she opts", don't give her any choices please. I hope now it finally comes down hard on Heather. All MOO.

"Should Mack opt to go to trial in July, she will be confronted with her own recorded confessions of guilt. In a footnote, prosecutors made mention of a February 2017 YouTube video in which Mack went into detail regarding both her motivation for and direct involvement in her mother’s murder."

Yes, good for the aunt voicing what a master manipulator Heather is and telling the judge how Heather is capable of threatening their whole family's sense of security if she's let out on bond, or let out ever.

Say what you will about the DM, the photos are always worth it. I hadn't seen the photo of Stella missing her two front teeth. Prayers Stella has a more normal life from now on.

I recall seeing published photos of Sheila Von Weis Mack bloody suitcase outside the hotel in Bali. Have never been able to get that image out of my head. This murder was all about Heather's greed to get her inheritance. I am not sure of HM's trial date, think it is scheduled sometime summer of 2023, but can't find link.

Yes, poor Stella. It will be tough to not have her parents around while growing up. The only thing worse would be having them around.

A pretty good synopsis of the bail hearing in this article…

So glad that Bill and Debbie are speaking up as voices for Sheila- who got lost in the process, and that it's Debbie's daughter who got custody of Stella. The best possible choice.

12/5/22 Update: Federal prosecutors opposing the release of Mack said Monday that the 27-year-old not only conspired to have her mother killed overseas in 2014 — but that she “was directly involved in her mother’s murder.” Those allegations appeared in a 15-page court filing Monday in which the feds asked U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly to reject a request from Mack for release while she awaits trial for conspiring to have her mother killed in Indonesia. The judge is expected to consider the request during a hearing Thursday, 12/8/22 at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. Mack’s attorneys insist she poses no danger to the community & is not a flight risk. Could be a status hearing on 12/21/22.
12/8/22 Update: U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly denied Mack’s release request Thursday after a short hearing that saw relatives of her mother Sheila von Wiese-Mack testify against her. Judge said there is “plenty of reason to believe she is a danger to the community.” Status hearing on 12/21/22.

Haven’t seen anything. The last status hearing was probably too close to the Christmas break for any reporter to be bothered to sit in. :p
