Close to where she stopped in Winnebago would be Pecatonica Wetlands, or Seward Forest Preserve.

What about somewhere with caves and crevices? Mississippi Palisades is one, but is further afield.

Obody, Pjessie....

My mother lives in Carroll County (Savanna) and had never heard of this case (sadly). There is a large state park north of town, on the Mississippi River (Mississippi Palisades State Park) that is very spread out, with many "cliffs", drop offs, etc. Yes, there are caves there too. There is also a wetlands refuge south of town on Rt. 84.

Here's a link to that park:

I don't know if all of the rivers would have been completely frozen; some might not freeze completely depending on a lot of factors.

But I think it's doubtful that she made the Feb 18th trip to scope out a spot to 'put' Timmothy. Not only was it dark when she was out there on that trip, but there would have been snow on the ground. Not sure what the weather was for the March 20th trip, which was during the day.

I think it's interesting that both those trips were made on the 3rd weekend of the month (the February one on a Fri., the March one on a Sun.). Makes me wonder if she also went out there the 3rd weekend of January and/or April without using her iPass. Also makes me wonder whether she attended some sort of function or if she was just meeting someone and it's a coincidence that it was the same weekend both months.

BBM: Good points, Martha.

But, we can't assume that the Feb.18th trip was her 1st. We also can't assume that she knew what time of day or night she would end up there with Timmothy.

Maybe she wanted to scope the site out during both the day and night, so she had all the bases covered? Maybe she thought that she should do the deed at night, with less risk to being stopped/seen, but in the end, she found a remote enough spot to do it during the day.

It has been mentioned here that she seemingly did whatever she did to Timmothy during the day. But, if you were planning such a deed, wouldn't you do it under the cover of darkness? :waitasec:

Perhaps she changed her mind.

hmm...2.50 hours vs. a 10 in drive. Maybe a piece of property for sale, in an out of the way place. With some kind of a roadway/drive cutting back into it.I am thinking private not public. Possibly a place she came across before, but very possible was looking for a spot and made spur of moment decision as to location.
The purchase of toys, etc were maybe a reassurance to herself that she had to provide tokens of care/affection for his impending journey she was 'sending' him on. Trying for a semblance of normal- self calming her own hysteria. I might think the purchase of the envelopes, etc were done before the deed...her last act ...using every bit of strength left was checking into the hotel...and was percieved as calm...

IMHO
will look at maps a while now

Any mention of service records on the vehicle? The milage has obviously been examined, but the time lapse before checking into the hotel is perplexing. If she did something with Timmothy earlier in the day, perhaps she was simply parked somewhere. Or she returned to where she left him and that's much closer to the hotel than thought?
That would give us a pretty good radius to work with. Think I'll do that grid up- can't hurt.

grr, can't work this darn laptop mouse thing to save my life. So can't figure out co-ords. There is an interesting area to me, NW of the Anna R Page Forest Preserve
This addy- 3747 N Meridian Rd
Rockford, IL 61101-9318

go just north of it and turn right on Porter Rd. Go app. 1/2 mile and there is a opening on the right that goes into a field. Can't tell that it is gated. Meander south back down in there. Looks like it might be accessible by a SUV, may not all be mown, doesn't appear to be crops and has several water features.

This area more largely bounded by Meridian Rd, Porter, Kilburn/70, Springfield, and Safford. Actually also see some interesting areas off of Safford between Springfield and Kilburn/70

If the mother went to Iowa State, anyone know what she majored in? What line of business was she currently employed in, I didn't see that mentioned I don't think

Would love to know if her computer showed that she ever read about the Skelton boys in Morenci, her son with 'people', never be found, sounds familiar....

IIRC the car was worked on right before she and Timmothy left town. We obviously don't have mileage from that, but I'd bet that LE does have whatever info the garage did.

It is gated I think, sre- well, looks like it was anyway. :waitasec: Two posts, fence posts down one side, but no fencing? We looking at the same thing?

She worked for a property management company in Aurora. I remember reading what her college major was in an article over the summer, but I don't remember what it was right now. :(

oh JOY I figured it out= try this co-ord Oriah +42.31697 -89.16500

go 'in' there and look in that area south of entering from Porter
that seems to meet what looking for....could Porter have been treated with the glass bead stuff, or one of the other peripheral roads

thanks MarthaM- hmm property management eh?? access to property records or knows how to find them perhaps? I wonder if LE looked at her work computers...

From looking at her employer's website, it seems that they mostly manage condo associations and maybe some office complexes. I wouldn't think there's a connection between the kind of work she did and this case, unless perhaps that she met someone through work that led her to the area LE is focusing on. It seems that she was probably somewhat familiar with that area anyway, given her background in Iowa and that she had friends in northwestern IL.

I'm sure that one of the first things LE looked at were all of her computers, including work ones. What I've wondered is whether she had another cellphone that nobody knows about. If she she really did give Timmothy to someone, she could have arranged everything without there being any clues on the cellphone she called relatives from that last day.

I almost mentioned Lake Carroll the other day, it struck me as a possibility due to it's shape - lots of shoreline. But didn't, because it's a gated community. But now I wonder, could there be a tie there, through work?

Been trying to do some research on the road marking beads, and came upon this (extremely boring, but informative) DOT pdf:

http://dot.state.il.us/desenv/spec2007/div700.pdf

It made me wonder if the soles of Amy's shoes contained the same soil/grass/gravel analysis as the vehicle? Does anyone know this? TIA- sorry if I missed it already being discussed.

I would hope that LE has the means to find out WHERE those glass marking bead things were most recently used in the areas of interest. Don't know if they looked at her footwear or not

Great find, Oriah!!!!

Is this Government hoifoi that is a "rule" but not necessarily done, or.......is this something that could actually be investigated to narrow down roads that have had the glass marking beads put on them, in the geographical areas in question, in Illinois?

Would it be possible to contact the Engineering Companies awarded the paving contracts in the past, to determine which roads have had the glass marking beads installed on them?????

The Contractor shall notify the Engineer 72 hours prior to the placement of thethermoplastic markings. At the time of this notification, the Contractor shall indicate the manufacturer and lot numbers of thermoplastic and glass beads he/she intends to use

I agree, Sre, but LE specifically told us that the road has had the glass marking beads in the past.

Which to me, means, that somehow they know that the glass marking beads are very old, very faint or some other dating indication, and that the road was not recently done with the beads, but, had been done.
