I think some articles referred to Potash as an ex-boyfriend or a guy she dated while at school but it seemed they were no longer together by Sept. '66. Anyone else get that feeling?

A couple of more beach pics, Devonshire from the beach, plus recent construction and a shot of the property where it meets the lake on its south end (there's not really any beach there as you can see.)

Anyone notice the picture of the bayonet that ran in the Trib seems to be awfully clean for one that reportedly was recovered from 40 feet out in the lake? Wouldn't such an object, if it had been there for some time, have had rust on it, or significant wear from the churning action of waves?

Also, the doctor's wife claimed to have an unobstructed view of the back of the Percy's house at approximately 5:15 a.m. (According to one report she was claiming there was some light in the sky but according to what I've read sunrise wouldn't have been until after 6:30.)

What are they building on the property? Do you know?

From what I am told, a massive single family home.

Some info I saw in Tribune stories from the time said the alarm went off twice that morning, with an approximate minute pause in between. It was the second alarm, so to speak, that reportedly brought a lot of people out of their homes. The first mention I see in its reporting of any material on the screen is not a report of paint residue, but "threads found clinging to the screen."

Someone earlier in this thread was asking about a young man who was introduced to Sharon by Valerie on the L train and who left the train at Linden Street with the Percys. Not sure if anyone answered but according to a Tribune story about ten days after the murder, that person was located and removed from the list of persons of interest. He, evidently, was a campaign worker Valerie knew pretty well.

It would have to be rusty???

I don't know. But I would think it was steel, and had it been in the water for a considerable period of time, it would have either been rusty or have exhibited wear from tumbling in the waves (it was said to have been found only 40 feet from shore.) But it looks like it just came out of an army surplus store.

It was stated that it didn't match Valerie's wounds, so I think it was just there by chance and isn't connected, IMO.

Makes sense to me.

Has anyone mentioned on here that campaign aide Tully Friendman wore horn rimmed glasses not unlike those seen on the suspect at the Bubes' house? He was also described as "a slender youth," by the NY Times which also, I believe, fits the description of Bubes' attacker.

If you go to Google News and type in "Valerie Percy" in quotations, it looks like a Chinese newspaper did some in-depth articles about Valerie's case over several days. They wrote pieces on her on July 29th and 31st, and August 4th, 6th and 8th. I'd love to read these, but have no idea how to translate them to English. Anyone know if it's possible to do that? Thanks.

Hi, Cambria! There is a Yahoo program called babelfish which will translate, but only certain languages. I think the newspaper articles are either in Cambodian or Vietnamese, rather than Chinese. Unfortunately, babelfish doesn't translate those languages.

Thanks, Marilyn..I guessed at the language (Chinese)..I sort of figured they were something else, but all I could think of was Mandarin (which I think is basically the same as Chinese)! Anyway, I knew there was some way that certain languages could be translated....just couldn't remember what program had to be used. I really wanted to read those articles because they looked pretty in-depth! Thanks again. :)

Hmmm.... if those are recent I suspect they might be about the demolition of the old estate.

I think the demolition could be what triggered the articles. But also, there are articles over 5 different days; it looks to me like a huge overview of the entire case. And they were just written at the end of July through the beginning of August. I'm just so frustrated that we can't read them!
