First-degree murder charges were announced Monday night for Edward Weiher, 49, and his fiancé, Alexa Balen, 28, after they initially faced multiple neglect charges last November.

Police, upon entering, alleged the large residence was trashed with garbage, food, blood and feces on the floor, court documents reveal.
Police also observed a white substance, suspected to be cocaine and heroin, spread throughout the countertops and tables. Additionally, several pieces of burnt tin foil were found on the ground, believed to be used for heroin.
Suspected heroin was also found on a mattress in the living room where Trinity and the rest of the family slept that night, according to authorities.

The couple was in court Monday and released on pre-trial conditions. They also have a six-year-old child who is in protective custody.
Parents charged with murder in death of girl, 2, in Homer Glen, Will County sheriff says
The coroner’s report from January states that Trinity died of fentanyl, cocaine and bromazolam intoxication, according to court documents.
Detectives reviewed Balen’s web search history, which included a search on how to stop an overdose, court records show. They also located a receipt for the overdose medication Narcan the couple ordered to be delivered. Court documents also state Trinity would have begun overdosing for about three and a half hours before Balen called 911.
Heroin and Xanax pills were discovered throughout the home, within reach of both children, the sheriff’s office said. Police also found multiple doses of used Narcan near Trinity.
Homer Glen couple now face murder charges for November death of 2-year-old child
I could locate no obituary for this little girl
The parents were initially charged with felony count of endangering the life or health of a child, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of endangering the life or health of a child. They were eventually granted pretrial release on those charges and now have been charged (appropriately IMO) with murder. These people knew she was dying, tried to use narcan, multiple times and even ordered more delivered to their home, all while little trinity lay there dying.
