In interviews with investigators with the Illinois State Police, Justin DeRyke said he had been in his bedroom playing video games for much of the night before leaving his room to go into the bathroom to masturbate and watch pornographic films. DeRyke then slashed her throat and said he stabbed her multiple times, aiming for the heart before wrapping her body in garbage bags, sealing them with duct tape and dropping her body in a body of water south of Watson.

Kibler said the body was found by volunteers at around 7:30 p.m. Monday and a small hole in the bag revealed an elbow, with the size of the bags indicating the remains inside may be those of a child. The bags were not opened at the scene and were instead sent to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital for an autopsy.

The autopsy identified the body as Willow Long's and revealed multiple cuts, including a slash across her throat, two stab wounds across her chest bone, one which severed her subclavical vein and was the probable cause of death, and multiple cuts across her arms, indicating that there may have been a struggle.

With the evidence available, Judge Sherri L.T. Lungate ruled probable cause for three counts of first degree murder had been established and set DeRyke's bond at $5 million with the stipulation that he not return to the family's home in Watson, have contact with Ciara DeRyke or Nathan Grant and would not have contact with anyone under the age of 18. The sentencing for those charges range from 20 to 100 years in prison or could be ruled as a life sentence.

The pile of branches story is to accommodate the neck wounds? I didn't see anything in that article that the coroner claims there was an impalement injury as well as the throat slashing injury.

I think it's more like this:

JD was watching . He was alone in the home with the children. He did something sexually to Willow (thus explaining away the spermatozoa that will probably be found on Willow). She may have scratched his arm while struggling, again trying to explain away his scratch and possibly his blood on her. She twitched as he stabbed her and continued to stab her until she was dead.

I'm not buying the first half of his story. I think as more evidence becomes available he will be charged with sexual assault of a child.

Confused me. I hear 3 COUNTS of anything, I think three separate acts. There are many ways to break into a car or steal or battery. Wouldn't say three counts of battery, would say aggravated battery or battery or felony battery. Not 3 counts of battery with one victim. I'm confused. Person can only die once, so having 3 charges of murder looks like she died, was brought back, and murdered, brought back and murdered again.

This 22yo uncle didn't just go into psycho mode on this particular day in question. Bet he's done the whole triangle: tortured animals, bed wetting, fascination with fire, plus lots more. If I were LE, I'd be looking at his past very carefully, examining missing persons lists, and get a warrant for every place he's lived plus his vehicles. Course, the whole family is apparently messed up, Willow's mom "apparently" lied about the timeline and the granddaddy called it "putting her out of her misery", as if she was an injured animal. Poor Willow.

ETA: The stabbing her in the heart really, really bothers me, whether it came first, last, or in the middle. To me, it sends a very loud message.
