IMPD officer shot, SWAT called-suspect in the shooting IMPD officer

Aurs got away and made his way to Cincinnati in his personal vehicle. Sources say he made two phone calls - one to a fellow officer and one to his mother, who tried to calm him down.

I am hoping that because this happened on a weekend there is no new info. It is starting to feel a lot like Pike County - Rhoden affair, and IMO that is so not OK!

2003, Aurs shot and killed a suspect, after the suspect shot him in the chest area of his bulletproof vest.

CARIIS respectfully sbm your ^ post re phrase "bulletproof vest" which is commonly (mis?) used. Not that you intended to mislead. :innocent:You have generously contributed lots of current info & updates for this and many other threads. TYVM.

In the interests of clarification, this protective gear does not render wearer injury proof, as the term "bulletproof" suggests to some ppl.

https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullet-proof_vest bbm
"A bullet-proof vest (also called "bulletproof vest", "body armor" or "body armour") is a protective piece of clothing that covers the torso (chest, abdomen, and back) of a person. It protects the wearer from most pistol and revolver bulletsand from fragments of explosive devices such as grenades. Bullet-proof vests are worn by police officers, soldiers, security guards, and people who are at risk of being shot (such as the leader of a country).

Bullet-proof vests contain many layers of tightly-woven
fabric such as Kevlar (or hard, strong materials such as ceramic or titanium) which can stop the metal pistol or revolver bullets or metal shell fragments from going into a person's body
.[not that they always stop bullets from entering body]
When a bullet hits a bullet-proof vest, the forceful impact of the bullet can seriously hurt the person wearing the vest even if the vest stops the bullet. A bullet from a strong sniper or machine gun can pierce a bullet-proof vest. If a bullet hits a body part that the bullet-proof vest does not cover, the bullet can hurt or kill the person wearing the vest."

http://military.wikia.com/wiki/Bulletproof_vest. bbm
"While a vest can prevent bullet penetration, the vest and wearer still absorb the bullet's energy. Even without penetration, modern pistol bullets contain enough energy to cause blunt force trauma under the impact point. Vest specifications will typically include both penetration resistance requirements and limits on the amount of impact energy that is delivered to the body.
Vests designed for bullets offer little protection against blows from sharp implements, such as knives, arrows or ice picks, or from bullets manufactured of non-deformable materials, e.g., those containing a steel core instead of lead. This is because the impact force of these objects stays concentrated in a relatively small area, allowing them to puncture the fiber layers of most bullet-resistant fabrics."

It doesn't read like this officer could be placed on the good cop list.

From what has been shared, he appeared to bounce back and forth between good and in trouble. Wonder if he was on drugs?

Lately, every time something happens to a person assumed to be normal, mental illness is thrown out as to what caused their action. I do not buy it! It was probably as simple as he was going through a divorce, didn't like the sharing custody of the children, paying child support, sharing assets, etc. He was 100% wrong in what he did, I just can't blame it on mental illness.

My opinions only.

PS. He certainly settled any custody issues as a judge isn't going to give him 50% custody after this episode! JMO.

BBM I wondered about this, too. According to the article in post #18 above, by bluesneakers, Aurs had been involved in several car crashes and had a record of DUI. In one crash (2002?), Aurs suffered back injuries. Sounds like he already had an alcohol problem, but wonder if he also became addicted to pain killers. Mixing alcohol and pain killers is especially bad.

ccused Metro Police officer Adrian Scott Aurs did not put up a fight in court about returning to Indianapolis. Aurs has been locked up in Cincinnati since his arrest late Friday night.

His hearing at the Hamilton County courthouse in Ohio lasted only 55 seconds via closed circuit television Tuesday morning, clearing the way for extradition.

Aurs pointed the gun directly at Pearsey

Aurs and his wife have been separated for nearly seven months

neighbor who witnessed the ordeal t..... able to pick him out of a photo lineup and told investigators she saw him holding a gun....

it is likely that he will not face charges in Ohio for the stand-off there.
