Are they planning to have a PC this morning?

I'm just reading about this horrible tragedy.

Has the media discovered the shooter's name?

TIA!

Indianapolis Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt said the shooting “probably only lasted one to two minutes.”

“The information that we have is that it was very short,” he told CNN early Friday.

According to McCartt, who oversees the agency’s criminal investigations, the gunman entered the parking lot, exited his vehicle and quickly began shooting outside. He then entered the building but was not able to make it very far.

“It wasn’t precipitated by any kind of a disturbance or an argument with anyone there,” he added. “He just immediately started shooting.”

The site of the shooting, a one-story FedEx Ground facility in southwestern Indianapolis, is five miles away from a much larger company hub at the city’s airport.

It took only 1 or 2 minutes to injure and murder that many people and he had access to a weapon that could do this, why again?

Cook said it was too early to tell whether the shooter was an employee at the facility. “We’re still trying to ascertain the exact reason and cause for this incident,” she said.

Police established a family unification center at the Holiday Inn a mile from the warehouse, for those that had not heard from loved ones. The New York Times reported FedEx has a policy that employees must give up their phones before beginning work on the floor.

"I am heartbroken by the mass shooting at the FedEx facility here in Indianapolis and praying for all affected by this tragedy," he said via Twitter.

“I saw a man with a submachine gun of some sort, an automatic rifle, and he was firing in the open,” Jeremiah Miller said.

As news of the shooting spread, FedEx employees and their family members complained on Twitter that the company's policy of not allowing employees to keep cellphones on them during work hours had left family members questioning whether their loved ones were safe.

Because most employees didn't have cellphones on them at the time of the shooting, authorities told the workers' relatives to gather at a nearby Holiday Inn to wait for further instruction.

Just horrible. I’m just shocked at the murder rate in Indy, well I guess it’s rising in most bigger cities. I use to love working downtown. Now I’m thankful I’m WFH permanently. What is going on with people.

“I saw a man, a hooded figure … the man did have an AR in his hand,” said Levi Miller on NBC’s “Today” show, “and he starting shouting and then he started firing.”

Miller recalled the suspect was randomly yelling things, but couldn’t make out what he was saying. He said the man worked at the facility, but did not know of him.

The building is outfitted with metal detectors and security turnstiles at its entrance that require employees to scan their FedEx badges.

Mr. Miller said he could not understand what the gunman was yelling and that he could not see in detail the face of the man, but that he had heard from co-workers that the man was an employee.

"We don't have a lot of information on him yet, as he has not been positively identified," McCartt said.

McCartt said security measures at the FedEx location made sure the gunman "didn't get very far inside that facility."

Miller said he could not hear what the gunman was yelling while he was firing and could only speculate about a motive.

"The only conclusion I could see is our boss," Miller said. "From what I heard as rumors, I don't know if it's true, but the man was specifically targeting our head manager. And our manager was not here that day at all, and so when he arrived I assume he caused mayhem."

Miller also said he was told another man at the facility was killed after trying to stop the shooter. The man retrieved a gun from his truck "to try to engage the shooter, and he died because of it," Miller said.

McCartt said he couldn't confirm that claim, telling TODAY, "that's the first that I heard of that."

It's so tragic how many cities are having to deal with rising violent crimes with many cities seeing unbelivable increases in murders or attempted murders.

I guess we will learn for sure whether this shooter worked at FedEx, and if he had been fired or disciplined.

It just seems so many burst into a murderous rage if something doesn't go their way.

Will he be another injustice collector I wonder? These type of shooters never places blame on themselves where it should be, but rather take it out on innocent people.

Why indeed? Are we getting a sense that the tide of public opinion on access to this kind of weapon is beginning to turn?

Imo he does seem to be a worker. He knew he couldnt get far inside the complex due to armed security so that's why he opened fire in the parking lot, imo.

He only got in right at the entrance. I think that's where he killed himself. He probably knew the armed guards would take him out.

I’ve known several people who have worked there. Employees aren’t allowed to have cell phones while they are working.

Hopefully the no cell phone policy will be changed.

How would you feel if you were hiding from someone shooting and unable to call 911?

This is so horrific and deeply tragic and heartbreaking.

Praying that the injured survive. I am devastated in hearing of the eight lives lost. I know everyone feels the same way. Unbelievably shocking.

My heart goes out to the families who have just had their loved ones torn from their lives. Those precious lives - gone - just by being at work.

Just unimaginable grief. May the families be surrounded by comfort and love.

The sad thing for all the families who are waiting is LE must complete the investigation including examining and photographing the victims where they lay dead. They are often not removed for many many hours.
